Product Reviews:

WE had a Rheem water heater installed on December 3, 2020. Almost immediately, the water smelled of rotten eggs. We have softened water and it is not from a well. No problems like this with our previous Whirlpool water heater. Rheem says we need to replace the anode rod and are giving us no help at all. So, we need to pay for a plumber to fix this problem on a brand new water heater. VERY disappointing.

Our Bradford White gas water heater was installed in 2002 when we had the house re-piped. Our house is a 50s-vintage mid-century modern style. The water sits in the garage (semi-attached) and serves the dish washer, clothes washer, and sink. There is another heater for the other end of the house that serves the two bathrooms. The garage unit started leaking yesterday and will have to be replaced ASAP. But from 2002 to yesterday, no problems, leaks, or anything. Good stuff.

I have had my A. O. Smith Water Heater for 10+ years and have had no problems as of yet, the cost was what I expected and was within reason for a 30 gallon tank. It has worked to heat the water for 10 years and does a fine job, it runs quietly, has a control dial to reduce the temperature of the water that is very convenient, and the 30 gallon tank provides enough water for the house. It is energy-efficient as advertised while our other unit wasn't. The delivery and installation was on time and done in a professional manner. The old unit was removed with no damage to the home and was done at a reasonable cost. We hope our unit continues to work for 10 more years.

I am a Licensed Plumber in Oklahoma, have been for 25 years. Our company will no longer work on Whirlpool water heaters, here's why. I diagnosed a water heater that the pilot would not stay lit, the thermocouple was bad. Whirlpool Tech Support told me to go to Lowe's and buy the parts and send them the receipt and they would reimburse me. The customer was furious that I charged them for the part and I told them when I got reimbursed, I would send them the money. Well, I not only never got any money from Whirlpool but I never got paid from the homeowner who was mad at me and I didn’t even sell it to them. Beware, buy Rheem.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didn't like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? This is an honest recount of my past weekend. M. ** (Norristown, Pa). I would not recommend this product.

We have been with Reliance since 2005 and every so often our water starts to turn yellow. Usually when we call they send a reliable service tech to fix it however in this last year their customer service has gone to the crapper. Since January we have been trying to fix the same problem with the yellow water. One tech came out. Said it’s because of a valve on the water heater so would we like to sign up for their great plumbing plan they have. So we did. The guy came to fix it and Lo and behold still yellow water. Go figure. Then I call them again. It is now May.I told them exactly the issues and even how to fix the issue as per the last 6 times I watched it being fixed. Well they send out a service man just to look. He has nothing to do with repairs. That requires another person. Now I’m pissed. I call Reliance to ask why they sent a useless person out after I went over this 3 times not to mention we are now into May. So the girl on the phone s says, "Well I can direct your call to customer resolutions." I said ok. Then the next thing I hear, "You have reached customer resolutions. Our office is closed." Unbelievable. What a garbage company. I’ve had it. Time for a change.

The Kenmore Water heater I installed 2 and a half years ago. A year ago the pilot light started going off on its own every few weeks. I'd light it and get the hot water. Finally the pilot light went off and lighting it won't work. No hot water but pilot is on with four flashes followed by a pause. The manufacturer told me this indicates the Gas Control Valve/Thermostat has failed requiring a new one. The manufacturer has nothing to do with replacing the part so she referred me to Sears Part Department. The Part Department agreed to send a part only after their tech (mine won't do) comes to my house and diagnose the problem, order the part and do the repair. A tech visit to the house cost $79 not including parts or the repair work. His diagnosis was completely different from the manufacturer's. His diagnosis and suggested flushing the tank and resetting the pilot light indicator won't guarantee the sudden turn off of the pilot. For that he recommended I purchase a year or two up to five years warranty anywhere from $50 to $200. This on top of the cost of his controversial diagnosis which would cost $188. I have paid $500 for this Kenmore less than three years ago. When I insisted on the necessity of changing the Gas Control Valve/Thermostat he agreed to write a second diagnosis. This time the cost would be $214 guaranteed for 90 days only. Again suggested purchasing a service warranty. I said "no thank you" and don't expect me to pay you for this visit since the problem is misdiagnosed.I talked with the customer service department about five or six times. They reassured me I can get the part under warranty for free after Sears technician diagnoses the problem and order the necessary part for me then I can have my own technician do the repair. The Parts Department insisted that there is no such thing. The water heater carries a 9-year warranty on parts but only one-year warranty on labor. It is a good thing I have a second 40-year old heater that is still working perfectly. This gives me time to deal with the Kenmore problem. I am shopping for another water heater but definitely NOT A KENMORE. Never again I'd buy anything from Sears either. Dealing with Sears on this issue turned out to be a nightmare. I am considering small claims court.

I live in the country, in the middle of nowhere and have 2 full bathrooms in my home. I had a regular sized water heater that had only a limited amount of “hot” water. In the winter it took a long time to warm up and would run out before filling the bathtub. In the summer, it was better but we could only fill one bath at a time before running out of hot water.

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. It cost 5 times as much as a regular water heater and 3 times as much to fix. I will never, and I mean never, buy another Rheem product again. I've had my water heater for three years and about three weeks ago, it started flashing an error code and the plumber has been here three times and still the piece of crap doesn't work. So that's over two weeks with no constant hot water and a bill that I could have bought two regular water heaters with. I guess I was the ** one for choosing this product. Never again. I called and asked if there was a contractor they could recommend and he's over 30 miles away. Anybody who asks me about this product, I only have negative things to say to them now.

We needed a replacement and we purchased the Reliance water heater, have been impressed with our choice. Purchased last year and was in perfect price line for us to purchase. Husband was able to install by himself. Installation was done quickly and very simple. Had hot water in short amount of time. Heater was a perfect size and fit for the area our previous one was in. I like everything about Reliance water heater and it does excellent job. Has been very dependable and a great investment for our home. Provides more than enough hot water for our home. Water gets hot quick, stays hot and rarely run out hot water. Would highly recommend to any one looking for a replacement.
