We bought an Rheem 5.0 Ton air conditioner unit just 13 months ago. The compressor stopped working and even though the parts are covered we had to pay $600 for the labor. We are still paying for this unit and it only lasted a little over a year. The unit we had before (a different brand) lasted over 10 years before it gave us any problems. It doesn't seem fair that we had to pay that much money for labor when it is obviously a faulty unit. We live in Florida and it's the middle of summer, we can't live without AC so we just had to pay it. I will not recommend this Rheem brand to anybody.

So sorry to write this, but want to warn others not to waste their money buying Goodman HVACs. We are a manufacturer's dream because we take care of anything we own. Since purchasing our unit in 2017, we have had it maintained by a local HVAC company that took care of a previous unit for 10 years. On June 1, 2019 our AC went out and diagnosis by the HVAC company that does maintenance as having a bad evaporator coil. I looked online and these normally last between 10 to 15 years. Goodman did warranty the part, but the change out and restarting the unit cost more than $2k.

When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! It's had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and it's brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, we've suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought I'd researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carrier's old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now I'm told by several techs that we "should have gone with a Goodman." This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!

My residence air conditioner was leaking water under the furnace combination. The air conditioner tech diagnosed the pan leaking after checking for the freon pressure. I said why can I not patch the pan. He showed me how to access the evaporator coil and pan on the gas force air furnace by removing a panel on the rear near the evaporator coil. I have a Carrier AC.I looked hard for the source of the water as the pan was not leaking when I poured water on the pan, and the water was properly draining. The evaporator coil can slide out of the furnace housing, but one needs a platform to rest the coil to prevent kinking of the lines (very important as freon will leak, if not careful). I finally saw about two inches of dust/dirt at the top of the evaporator coil and surmised that this dirt was preventing the evaporated water from draining properly. After cleaning the evaporator coil, the AC seem to work, but the outside temperature was not hot enough to really test the AC.Another process was required, get some coil solvent from Home Depot and spray it on the coil. Be sure to get the ones that evaporate by themselves not require rinsing. I sprayed water on the coils after the foam went away just to be sure. Theoretically, the evaporated water will wash the solvent away when the AC is operating. Anyway, for a mechanically inclined person saving $5k to $6K using the above is worth a try! Or, you try talking the tech into looking at the coil itself and doing the cleaning for a few hundred dollars to pay for his time.

Moving to a new place is expensive, especially if you have lots of repairs to take care of. For me, the worst thing is moving in and having to bear with the scorching heat just because the ac doesn’t work. When we moved in here the ac was one of the first things I made sure were functioning. I replaced the old Carrier I found with an Armstrong unit. So far I can’t complain about its functionality. The unit cools the house so well and isn’t one bit noisy.

I closed on my home May 2014 and purchased your product Model: GSZ13421AG Serial:1403135510. This product is almost new and only 2 years old. It has been determined that it has a faulty piece. I feel as if I have no recourse and am stuck with this faulty product. The air conditioner is defectively designed and cracked resulting in it leaking refrigerant, thus making my unit entirely inoperable unless I pay 750.00 total. As a result, my electric bill has increased because while the unit was leaking, it required more power for adequate cooking. Because the leakage of the refrigerant from the evaporator coil left my unit completely ineffective, I am forced to pay 750.00 in total repairs to address the problem fully which will take 2 weeks.Worse, today I had to pay 79.00 for a "leak search" out of my pocket to determine why your product is not functioning as promised by your company. I had to pay 75.00 for the visit and 190.00 for refrigerant. Worse, I have to pay 425.00 in labor next week to have your item repaired, the bill is at 750.00 plus at this point. I am outraged. This is ridiculous. I'm told that it is tough and I should pay or my house will be hot.

Have had issues with indoor air handler letting condensate water run in our house. Had been worked on more than 6 times by two different certified installers and a Trane representative has been out as well. The original installer walked away and wouldn’t honor warranty or extended warranty that had been purchased. Had to pay out of pocket a second installer to come fix the issue which returned the following the summer again.

Real numbers here folks, this unit cools my boat storage 15' x 25' so I can work in there. Houston Texas, thermometer on car and phone shows 100, rip the door open on the storage unit, thermometer in there says 106. Fire up the AC 700 cfm, and 30-45 min later, Outside 100, in shop 94, laser shows the 700 to be throwing out 84 degree air. I know a bunch of Yankees just had a heat stroke, but I think it is great for Houston....

My 4-ton 14-seer Sentry compressor 'exploded' & blew the terminal cap off damaging the wire harness. We closed on the home just over 1 year earlier (new construction from Savvy Homes). Even though the parts were covered under warranty (numerous failures have been reported with the LG compressor), Carrier refused to replace or even assist with labor cost. Imagine getting hit with a $2200 repair bill on an HVAC unit that was just over 1 year old. Terrible, terrible customer service.

On 8/2/2013 I purchased a 5 ton a/c system model# RPHLHM6024JC, serial # W201312660 from ARS. On 2/12/15, a leak on the outside unit, which resulted in loss of freon, had to be fixed. This was deemed a manufacturer's problem. After a long argument ARS decided to pay for the repair. On 3/17/2016, during a routine servicing, the tech advised me of another manufacturer's problem - a leaking evaporator coil resulting in loss of R410 refrigerant. I was told workmanship will be $585.00 (part is covered by Rheem). Two major problems tell me that this product is a LEMON. I think Rheem should stand behind its products and do not make consumers, especially the elderly, bear the burden of it's shoddy manufacturing process. I am just one of the hundreds of Rheem customers who have claimed about their products and I hope some agency will make this company shoulder its burden.
