Product Reviews:

I purchased a 12 year warranty, high end Whirlpool WATER HEATER (OR SO I THOUGHT AT THE TIME) through Lowe's in 2014. Model ND50T122-403. Six years and multiple service calls later it is broken again, this time for the final time. I am ripping this garbage out. So livid with this company that could give a rip about their customers. Three years in to my "12 year warranty" it started giving me problems. Horrible HORRIBLE customer service. They will insult your intelligence. Whirlpool will not honor the warranty or stand behind their product. They just take your money and basically give a shrug of the shoulders or worse blame you for THEIR TERRIBLE product failing. It may be unscrupulous and unethical but I guess saves them a pile of money which is what they seem to only be out.The Service Tech that came for the 4th time to repair it says they see this all the time in Whirlpool water heaters. It's a Design Flaw they say. I don't know about all that. I just know when I have been swindled. The electronics are garbage. The pilot light when it goes out is not easily reset as others have mentioned on this site. Will stay lit for while and then shuts down. Whirlpool says, despite reams of evidence to the contrary it "must be a safety issue in the install," which they have absolutely zero evidence of therefore, they are not honoring the warranty. They are Blaming the installers, according to our service techs who tried to order the part that's supposed to be under warranty. The original installers, by the way were from Lowe's, the outfit that sold me this hot mess. Another Class action lawsuit seems ripe. Or perhaps the consumer protection division from each state's Attorneys General would be interested in protecting their citizens from practices like this. Lowe's is complicit in allowing it, failing to protect their customers and not calling Whirlpool out for it. I can't think of a more deserving target of consumer protection than Whirlpool. A truly horrible, expensive experience. See the Whirlpool logo and RUN - - DO NOT WALK -- THE OTHER WAY!

Whirlpool sent me a different part 3 times and hot water tank only work for a few weeks, then the pilot light goes back out. They never offered any more help.

My 40 gallon gas Rheem water heater was only 3 yrs old and the bottom of the tank gave out filling up the catch pan and dumping water all over the ground. Attempted calling Rheem for help, what an awful experience that turned out to be. Sure wish I had done some homework up front before purchasing. Home Depot, shame on you for selling/pushing this junk for sale. Folks, Do Not purchase a Rheem. The product is junk and the customer service is non-existent.

After going on internet and diagnosing the thermocouple on my American Water Heater as bad by testing the thermocouple with a meter, I then tried to replace the LEFT-THREADED thermocouple. I could not find the right one, so again I go on the internet and found that AWH used left-threaded thermocouple for three years before a class-action lawsuit stopped the practice. Until I went on the internet and found this information, I was unaware of it and had not received notification about the replacement kit. The website for AWH did have a phone number and they were very helpful when I called. Since the water heater was still under its 12-year warranty, they did supply the conversion kit for free; however, two-day delivery service did require my forking over $32.00 for shipping and handling, which I felt they should have paid since it was the design defect of the piece that caused a problem and was supposed to have been replaced as part of the lawsuit.Fortunately, I am rather handy at doing things myself, or else getting a plumber or gas technician to do the work for me would cost around $100.00, for which the company of course doesn't offer to pick up the bill. Hopefully when the parts arrive, it will prove to be as easy as the internet seems to make it sound to replace it, and I will have hot water again! If not, I will post again and let you know how displeased I am, and if the company resolved my problem with having to pay to have a plumber or gas technician to do the conversion for me.

I would give them zero stars if that was an option. Purchased a brand new American Water Heater on 12/19/18. By 2/19/19, it had already stopped working. When my plumber called to get the okay to replace valve & burner assembly, he was on hold for over 1 hour before they would give approval. He replaced the parts and by 2/28/19, the heater was again not functioning. Again he called to speak to a rep at American and was put on hold 3 times. He was on the phone over half an hour and was told we needed to replace burner and valve assembly AGAIN. If that didn't work, would need to replace vent. If that didn't work, they would finally send approval to replace unit. After expressing my displeasure with this, I was told it's all they would do. This is the worst customer service ever! Their products only deserve to be in the local landfill dump. Luckily my wonderful plumber at William Frankel Plumbing replaced this terrible heater with a brand new Bradford White that so far is working perfectly. Thank goodness for a having a great plumber that stood by me and took care of me when this water heater company did nothing.

I am a plumber from Phoenix AZ and I have had a 50% fail rate with all of the Bradford White Gas Water Heaters I have installed in the last 7 years. Most of the failures are due to the Honeywell Gas Controllers. Both Honeywell and Bradford White should be ashamed of themselves for building such a pile of crap. I have also had quite a few leakers within the first year of installation too. I have switched to RUUD Water Heaters and so far I have had zero warranty issues. The Ruud Residential Gas Water Heater has White Rodgers Gas Controllers and that seems to be a bulletproof control valve. These water heaters make me look bad. I am a native of Michigan and Bradford White Resides in Michigan. It makes me glad I moved to Arizona so I'm not in the same state with such an incredibly poor manufacturing company.

My house came with a Bradford White gas water heater with an electric blower that has a 6 yr warranty. Yesterday the water heater broke and water went all over the basement floor and needs to be replaced. The water heater is 6 yr and 11 months old. This puts it conveniently outside the 6 year warranty. When I called the company I was told sorry, it is out of warranty they (Bradford White Corp) will not do anything. They said water heaters are designed to last 10 years+, industry standard is only 6 yr warranty, and they would do nothing about their product's failure. Additionally I was told Since it's out of warranty they (Bradford White Corp) won't do anything, but we will sell me a new water heater AT FULL PRICE. I called the plumber who was going to install the new one and told them I did not want a Bradford water heater put back in, and was told b/c of size and space issue with my house I'm stuck with getting a Bradford. This post and others I'm leaving is to warn any other soon to be water heater buyers NOT to get a Bradford White Water heater b/c they do not stand by their product, have poor customer service, and have products that conveniently break when the warranty is up. If anyone wants to contact me to discuss, you can email me at **. Beware of Bradford White products!

I purchased a Kenmore Water Heater in Aug 2015, this past week 11-16, the water heater control panel burned up - wires, sensors, etc. Called and was told a technician could not come out until Saturday 11-18. The technician came out - said there was nothing he could do - it would need to be replaced and someone would call us. We received no call from Kenmore, and when we called we got the runaround. First we were told the technician hasn't closed the service order yet and until he does, they cannot see anything on their end. We called several times after that and were finally told that someone from Kenmore would contact us in 24-48 hours (Sunday not being a business day) to let us know what steps to take. We have been going on 6 days with no hot water... along with 6 days with no resolution from Kenmore. After this experience, I will never buy any type of Kenmore product again. They put warranties on their product, but when their product becomes defective during the warranty, they do not back their warranty.

Hot water heater. Buy 1 yr warranty. Buy 3 yr warranty. Buy 6 yr warranty. Buy 10yr warranty. If in a business, Rheem automatically reduces warranty to 1 yr, regardless if you paid for more warranty or not. Gas valve failure exactly 1 yr 1 mo later and Rheem... reemed us. Water heater $600... new valve... $226. I will never buy anything ever with Rheem on the tag. Un-ethical company.

NU40T61-403 have had problems since day one. First problem was while heating up would make loud humming noise. Whirlpool sent out plumber. He adjusted plate under tank. That worked for about 2 months. Then pilot started going out. They send same plumber out again, also sent replacement part. Problem was fixed however about 2 months after that started leaking and flooding our garage. Called company again, was told that is no longer under warranty and stated we need a thermal expansion tank. I stated “why would we need this? This unit is only a little over a year old. I'm not going to purchase another tank. A water heater should not overheat like this.” Long story short my husband has been burnt severely from the pressure build up as he was out in our garage walking past the tank when it decided to release pressure even though no water was being used at that time. He ended up at the ER with 2nd-3rd degree burns. I called Whirlpool again and was only told we need to install the expansion tank. I'm so unhappy with this product I will never buy anything made by whirlpool again.....
