Will never buy a rheem product again.

We have had nothing but problems with our Reliance water heater since we purchased it... It is the SAME PROBLEM that every one else is having - the pilot will not stay lit. As for the moron that says it's "high efficiency" & we all need to clean the air or whatever - it is BRAND NEW. I absolutely believe a Reliance rep wrote that "review", for sure. This last time my husband tried to light it, it BLEW UP IN HIS FACE! We have to thank God he wasn't killed or injured & that the WHOLE HOUSE DIDN'T GO UP, because it is GAS! The flames stopped just in front of his face. It did knock him backwards & blew the vent off of the roof! The COMPLETE LACK OF CONCERN BY THE RELIANCE TECH, Allen, (if that's his real name) was utterly incomprehensible! He insisted on a gas line pressure check & otherwise refused to warranty! I repeated that we've had nothing but problems since we bought it & that IT BLEW UP IN MY HUSBAND'S FACE. I might as well have tried to communicate with a pet rock! After talking to this "person", we checked the safety switch & IT WAS STILL ON! AFTER BLOWING UP! Instead of the Reliance rep being so grateful that a whole house with people in it didn't go up & that they aren't GOING TO BE SUED, I get a pompous punk on the phone who has all the compassion of a ton of bricks!I am beyond furious & will be filing a complaint with the BBB. If they continue to refute defects & refuse to honor the warranty, I will place large posters on my SUV & start my one mad momma campaign against their deceptive trade practices. Just try me, because I've had to do it before to get justice & I'll do it again. IT BLEW UP IN MY HUSBAND FACE & THE SAFETY SWITCH IS STILL ON - IF THAT ISN'T DEFECTIVE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.

To follow up with the pictures I submitted and to the part that was burnt. When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but it's in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

Right out of the box, our brand new Bosch tankless water heater (2700 NG model) did not work. Our plumber called their customer service. The person he spoke with, and subsequently my husband spoke to as well, was extremely rude. He told us that we would have to order a new one (it would take four days to deliver) and that we would have to pay the plumber to reinstall the new one as well as pay for shipping on the new unit. Who has that type of customer service? It was brand new and just out of the box and it is defective. The hardware store where we purchased it told us it was an issue that we had to take up with Bosch. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place! After hours on the phone with both Bosch and the hardware store, Bosch agreed to send us a new tankless heater and the hardware store agreed to pick up the overnight shipping cost. We are still out the cost of having the new tank installed. I would never purchase anything that bears the Bosch name on it. And yes, I did my research about tankless water heaters. This will be the first of many websites that I will tell the world about the poor customer service by Bosch. Do yourself a favor and purchase any other tankless besides Bosch!

We bought our water heater from Lowe's after being sweet talked into it by the salesman there, who said it was the best for us, last for 12+ years, be very cost efficient/energy efficient to operate, and actually save us money. This model was not cheap, in fact it was significantly higher priced than the others we were initially considering (around $660.00). It worked fine for the first few years, but has been a continual annoyance for the past several years. My husband has to go and reset the mode switch, sometimes several times a day or we won't have hot water. It is a real bummer to turn on the shower in the morning and discover it is running cold. Even though still within our warranty period, we can't find all the necessary paperwork to submit a claim, and after reading about the similar woes of other customers, it hardly seems worth it to deal with this company. My husband, completely fed up by now, just went to Home Depot and purchased a replacement water heater. Our advice to anyone seeking a water heater is to AVOID this company. We will not shop Lowe's for appliances after this either.

My 50 Gallon water heater is still under warranty, model #051718153. The water heater shuts down after a few minutes. There's a sound of a leak inside the tank. They would not replace the tank; they'd only replace parts. We have already replaced the outer control box and the double burner, and there's nothing else to replace except the tank, which they refuse to do so. If I had called them and said there's water coming out from the heater, they'd have agreed to send me a new tank, but honesty doesn't work.

I replaced a 24-year-old heater that never had a problem, was afraid it might fail in my absence in this vacation house. This new heater, purchased in January 2013, stopped working July 2013 with the valve suggesting overheating (4 blinks). The company apologized and immediately sent a replacement valve that I had professionally installed. The new valve failed for the same reason July 2014 and a free replacement was again professionally installed. This failed (same signal) within 2 weeks. The company has now sent out yet another new valve, this time with a new anode. They are about to be installed. This makes the 3rd replacement Honeywell gas valve Reliance has sent free by overnight express. I can't fault the company for courtesy or rapid attention. They have replaced very expensive parts repeatedly. However, I have paid plumbers repeatedly to install these parts with no assurance that the problem is solved. I have no confidence in this product. There is another poor review for a Reliance heater this year from the same area (Hidden Valley Lake, CA) and the same plumbing company. I can't help wondering if they install Reliance heaters because they generate so much follow-up business.

I bought a 6 year warrantied Whirlpool hot water heater Model N50T61-403, product number 0733318, at Lowe's Home Improvement Center and for three years the pilot light fails to stay lit. I have talked with Whirlpool 1-877-817-6750, the number on the unit, many times. I went through the troubleshooting checklist and verified all requirements. I paid a plumber $150 to check it out and he said I needed a larger supply line and venting the closet door would help. I did this and pilot still goes out periodically. Whirlpool sent me a new gas valve and it cost me another $150 to have it installed. The plumber said everything is good. But the pilot is still going out. Called Whirlpool again and talked with them for 24 minutes. The woman on the line was telling me I needed a certain amount of oxygen for this 40,000 BTU model. She was giving me minimum requirements for square or cubic feet of house with 8 inch ceilings. Yes, she said 8 inch ceilings 4 or 5 times as we went over the requirements. I got so frustrated asking her what she was talking about and she hung up on me. I called back and asked for a supervisor and a different woman had me hold on, came back and said a supervisor would call me. I did get a call back and the supervisor wanted to send me another gas valve and a burner assembly. I told him the burner assembly is working fine and I have a new gas valve. I asked him to send me a $150 along with it to pay the plumber. He said they only warranty the parts. So, am I supposed to have $450 in labor plus my time in this product on top of the original cost? I said no thank you and asked him if he would accept this as a solution if he were the customer and he said this is not a personal discussion. I know his answer. I am never buying a Whirlpool product again. But now I need to buy a new, good brand, water heater to replace the Whirlpool piece of junk. Bad product, bad company, bad warranty. I got screwed by Whirlpool once but never again.

After debating whether or not I wanted to have a tankless water heater installed I finally decided to replace my old water heater with another Bradford White. Great water heater. Tankless would have been nice but I plan on moving in 5 to 8 years and just don't know if I'll see the return on my investment.

Rheem Gas 50 Gal Hot water Heater - Installed 11/02/2013. In August 2014, pilot light started going out. It would re-light and heater would work for a few days. Then pilot would go out again. Repeated this scenario several times. Called installer who referred me to warranty service man. Fixed at no charge but I was told that it was going to fail again, and while the part would be free, a service charge would apply after 1 year of installation. Service man said it is a design flaw, probably caused by the "Closed Heating Chamber" and the unit was not getting enough ventilation. Corrosion from carbon monoxide damaged the thermal coupling and would re-occur. Rheem Customer Service offered no advice or help.
