Purchased a Kenmore model # 153330220 water heater that quit after 48 months. I called our local gas company and the service man stated the burner was cracked. The water heater came with a 6 year warranty. When I inquired with Sears about warranty repair, Sears stated the warranty only covered parts... no labor. I was told a service call would cost me $79. When the service man came, he stated the burner was cracked due to an excessive amount of dust in the burner area. I put my hand in the cavity and rubbed my finger on the bottom of the cavity. No dust on my finger. Cannot see any dust on bottom of cavity. Service man refused to repair under warranty, says we didn't keep dust away from burner assy. Gave me an estimate to replace the burner assembly for $828. I paid $420 for this water heater brand new... Why would I now pay $828 for repairs? I cannot believe that Sears would put their name on this water heater, since it's junk. I will never buy another Kenmore product again!

We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area weren't willing to work on Rheem products and the one's that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,"I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue." To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, "Yes we know." This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. It's leaking & can't be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesn't come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if there's a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they can't track down by your name only the model # & yes, that's right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

I called the company about my tank that’s 2 years old and started leaking, the plumber I called told me that the gas control has to be replaced. Every representative said it’s a different problem and they didn’t want to send me the part my plumber needed to fix the tank. Now I’m stuck with a leaking tank that’s only 2 years old.

I purchased a 40 gallon water heater at Lowe's and installed about 3 years ago. A couple of weeks ago, it got an upper sensor failure code on the gas valve. It would heat by resetting (turning valve off, waiting a minute and then lighting) but after a few minutes, it would fail again. I called the customer service and they mailed out a new upper sensor. When it came a few days later (I paid for shipping), I installed it but the same failure code. Again, the only heat I could get was by resetting the valve several times before a shower. I called customer service again, told them what I did and they said, "Oh, the problem is the gas valve then." So they mailed out a new gas valve unit. It then came a few days later and I installed it according to the enclosed directions to the letter. Still got the failure code and still had to keep resetting it to get any warm water before a shower.I called customer service again, told them what I did and he said, "Well, did you flush the water heater with apple cider vinegar before you installed the new gas valve?" I said, "No, it wasn't in the enclosed directions to do so." He said, "You should have done that and it would have worked. I will send out a new gas valve." At this point, I blew up. Two weeks with no reliable hot water. I told him I want a new water heater and he refused. I asked to speak to his superior. He said no. Don't ever get a Whirlpool product. Some other crappy company builds these turds.

We purchased a hot water heater on December 6th, 2017 and it stopped working on December 19th, 2017. We called Rheem on the 20th and they dispatched a plumber to come out on the 21st, he showed up on the 22nd. He started up the unit and said we needed new parts and he would call Rheem to let them know which parts need to be shipped to the house. I called Rheem on Friday the 29th because the unit stopped producing hot water again and the parts were never ordered. We've been without hot water since Friday the 29th. Hold time to speak to customer service is 40 minutes. I've been calling everyday 2 to 3 times a day to see if the parts were ordered and still have no answer. It's -6 degrees and I've been without hot water for 5 full days. Not acceptable! I would never recommend Rheem products to anyone! I understand that the unit itself failed but customer service is ridiculous!

Purchased a Whirlpool hot water tank from Lowe's 5/12 and have had NOTHING but problems with it since day 2. The tank I replaced was around 20 years old, never a drip, never a problem, it just finally rusted through.. Well this piece of JUNK I had installed is just that JUNK.. I have been in contact with this company many times, they ALWAYS have a new story. I replaced my old thermal expansion tank 3 months after buying this JUNK because I was told it could be that. Well that didn't fix anything and cost me $60.00, then it was pressure relief valve, ok, another $20.00, nope not that. Well back on the phone and emailing this company, now they tell me I am not vented correctly, because with all the repairs being done on this tank, my Son noticed the top plastic pieces melting. Well back on the phone I go, and of course Whirlpool tells me, it's me again.. Had piles going into my chimney replaced, no help, replaced thermal expansion tank again, no help, replaced pressure relief valve, no help. So sick of cleaning up water I want to throw up. Well I now know why they say, "do not return to store where you purchased it," because it is bad business to have Lowe's parking lot, looking like a Whirlpool graveyard for their product. .

Home owner bought a whirlpool water heater from Lowe's. After the first year, the pilot started going out frequently. Tenants were left with no hot water repeatedly over weekends, etc. Changed numerous thermo-couplers, cleaned the screen below, but it continued to happen. I’ve paid plumbers for several service calls, which amounts the cost in excess of the price of the water heater.

Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing from Home Depot in Modesto, Ca. First problem was at 1 & 1/2 years after purchase. Upon inspection of PG&E I was told Thermocouple had to be replaced and most likely it was a faulty part and or product (Not knowing about the hundreds of complaints similar of mine). The part was replaced at my expense. One year later the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th problems occurred (3 times in 5 months). Upon inspecting a LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND in my hall area, we discover the pilot light is no longer lit on the GAS WATER HEATER. Initially there are problems in re-lighting it but fortunately it has re-lit.It then came to mind to begin searching for this products recall. Not as easy of a task and I continue my search for a recall, but in the process I have found this water heater is no longer sold by Home Depot; every review was bad with most stating the thermocouple having to be replaced within the first two years, and this product has been discontinued. The GE Appliance website states this model is no longer being manufactured. And it is no wonder. What I am curious about is what it takes for a product to be recalled because from what I have researched it is the opinion of hundreds that this water heater is junk, a hassle to deal with the continuous problems, very costly. I pray not, although I fear the explosive sound could be a danger or deadly. If I could I would most definitely purchase another water heater but I am currently disabled, living on a limited income that I cannot even make it on each month. Therefore I pray for our safety and that the water heater does not have any further problems. As I have written this complaint, I have to GE as well. And I'll continue to seek a recall for this product. MY ADVISE, DO NOT BUY A GE WATER HEATER MANUFACTURED BY RHEEM!

Bought a new water heater. It did not work when installed. I called service dept. and was told that someone would call me and come fix it. Called back and no work order was put in. 11 days later still waiting. I went to Lowe's and bought a different brand. Worked when installed.
