Product Reviews:

Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser ("matched field" - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions). After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Trane's customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was "call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help." Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installer's flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!

Very dissatisfied with the quality of our Carrier 4 ton air conditioner (model 24ABB348A003). The compressor failed after only 3 years and it was not a blow out failure. The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product. When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just don't care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.

When we built our house 8 years ago, the builder insisted on installing a TRANE unit with the suggestion that they were a very reputable company with a good product. In the 8 years we've had it, we've had 4 service calls on this unit, the last one was today and the tech informed me that the cheap copper tubing was rusted through and the condenser was damaged, total cost of repair will run me over $ 2600 to replace the air handler, the coil and filter drier. This is utterly inexcusable. I've probably spent almost 1500 already on service calls and repairs on an 8 year old unit, pathetic.

We built our house in 2010. Moved-in in Dec. 2010. In July of 2014 one of the Trane a/c units stopped working. The problem was apparently a bug crawled into a circuit box, fried itself and the part which was replaced by the a/c technician with a new circuit that was fully enclosed so it could not happen again. (Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so that's why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. If you're looking for a dependable A/C, maybe you should bypass Trane.

I bought my house in may 2002. It had a temp star 10 (rated seer 10) five ton nac060aka1 central ac with gas heating. The compressor is mounted on a concrete pad outside my house. The ac is a split unit with the heater mounted inside the house in the attic space with the other haft of the ac unit called a coil. The fan above the compressor was replaced last year ant the compressor disconnect was replaced at that time. I have not done any maintenance or other repair. The service repair man said the compressor is running two amp more than normal causing the disconnect terminals to overheat that cause the it to be replaced. the higher amperes are an indication that compressor will be failing soon. that was 15 months ago. He said that the unit used Freon R 11 which will be phase out soon and that the entire ac central ac unit would need replacement. The new AC units are rated 13 seer which the dept. of energy say is 40 percent better than a seer 10. so replacing it will be okay with me. The Tempstar 10 lasted 15 years and is still running- that's pretty good life. I have no complaints

My unit is 4 yrs old & the condenser coil broke. It has cost me $1200 for Freon & repairs. Called service to explain and ask for help since my unit is so new. Well, I shouldn't have wasted my time. Woman in dept was actually rude! They will do nothing to help you and I am a senior and live in poverty but that meant nothing. Don't buy Trane based on their reputation because they don't live up to it!!!

We bought a Trane heatpump/a/c unit in January of 2019. A valve in the unit failed in less than a year. Although the specific valve was covered under their limited warranty, the parts that are associated with the repair for this specific problem weren't covered. Even though our installer did not bill up for labor, we still had a bill of $1033 for a unit less than a year old! As it turns out, there was a class action lawsuit over that same valve for units purchased from 2014-2018. Apparently, they haven't solved the valve problem, but cleverly, specifically now list those very parts as excluded under the warranty. Never buy a Trane, they don't stand behind their product and apparently don't test it well, either, even though it states that they do on their website.

2017 AC Bad Condensor Coil after 1.5 years. Model 24abc636a300. $500 to find leak & add 3 pounds of Freon. $1500 to remove outside unit (take back to Carrier) & install new one. Several leaks on Cond. coils at welds & Baffle plate. Also they don't even install low pressure switches to protect the compressor. These are the notes from AC Tech: Found unit to have small leak in condenser coil. Appears to be in between header plate and coil making it difficult to bubble test. However video indicates a leak with electronic leak detector. Customer not interested in replacing coil under warranty at this time. Customer only wanted to charge unit. Leak will only worsen and refrigerant will leak out again and with no high or low pressure switches compressor damage could occur if unit continues to run with no refrigerant. Unit also has 45+5 mfd battery pack weak and customer declined replacing under warranty as well.

We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.

We bought a beautiful new Rheem HVAC which included a heat pump and gas furnace. The trouble started after our system was two years old. Aug 8th 2020 -(1) The fan motor on heat exchange stopped working and had to be replaced. Within one Month's time we had to replace: (2) The coil and (3) The reverse valve. Although the parts are under warranty the labor cost us around $3000.
