Recently bought a home from a popular bullet in my city. Love everything about my new home BUT the furnace and air conditioner (both Goodman). I'll be honest the disappointment and disbelief that a new unit could have so much trouble in the first few years is just insane! I'm on the board for my neighborhood H.O.A., and I'm one of MANY that has had very very similar problems. Sure the builder cut cost by installing cheaper system in 89 homes in my area! The local heat and air company that installed it per builder has the greatest reviews all over the network and BBB! They have been very very helpful and cutting down repair cost because they feel sorry! So, in the last three years I've had a leak on BOTH coils, then new coil came with filter dryer that also leaked in same year, and now I have a "restriction" in the piston that coils quite possibly be metal shaving from inner compressor! Also replaced circuit board on furnace and also in the first year the blower wheel came loose and tore up the blower motor! Goodman is a disgrace to HVAC industry! I've seen it all over internet, fellow HVAC techs, and neighbors! Nobody but this equipment EVER. Year four this summer, I had some extra cash and changed out the full system! Bought new Trane furnace and heat pump combo!

I purchased a brand new Trane A/C in July 2011. Now, a year and half later, my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I called out the A/C technician and he informed me that there is a manufacture defect in the condenser unit's coil. The coil rubs against another piece of metal to cause a hole where the Freon leaks out. My coils had actually 2 holes where the Freon was leaking out. They told me that the coil was under warranty but they would have to charge for labor and Freon and this would cost around $700. I contacted Trane and they told me that they have no control over the prices of labor. I told them that I understood that but requested them if they could get me an A/C technician that they would pay to have it replaced and of course, I have gotten the run around. There is an attorney that is doing the investigation for a class action lawsuit. I really think they have a great case. My other issue is if I pay to have the new coil replaced with the coil Trane sends them for free, who’s to say that I don't have the same problem in another year. Have they made modifications on their coil or is it the same design as the one that has already faulted? Trane needs to stop beating around the bush and recall these faulty coils. Otherwise, word of mouth will cause them to loose a lot of business!

Heil is not that famous in the heating and cooling market. People know Trane, Carrier, Goodman but seldom talking about Heil, Day and Night which actually are from the same company of Carrier. Heil rarely do any marketing promotion and that’s why the Heil’s price is lower. If you can choose a good contractor to do a qualified installation, it can runs normally for 10-20 years. Finding a trusted installation contractor with rarely promoted brands is always a good choice.

All HVAC manufactures give a 5-year out of the box & home owner needs to go online for the extended 5-yr within 60 days. I'm a service tech/installer, I have noticed Goodman getting better in the past 5 years. Also it depends on the installer and company.

We have a unit that was installed in 2005 to cool one section of our home by the prior owners and since buying the home in 2012, the unit has been weak but never failed to cool, just took a long time. As the home is large and has a large 2 story foyer, we thought it was the physics of cooling a space that was too large for the HVAC alignment in the home. Well, finally it stopped cooling a couple of days ago and..... it needs a new valve and new coil. Valve is leaking oil and we cannot adequately gauge how much oil is left in the coil so that may have to be replaced as well and at less than 8 years of age, that is really ridiculous - 3200 on a unit that is less than 8 yrs old and cost 7500 new. Most cars are better than this! Of course, not covered by the sham of a warranty they offer (allegedly 10 years but really just 5 years on almost anything that costs money to repair), and their service line was a complete joke.We went with a local, and reputable, HVAC company and the tech we got to come out said he was shocked how quickly the unit failed. After reading all the reviews on here, I am not shocked at all - Trane makes junk products and does not back them up with adequate warranties. Bottom line - we will be purchasing a Lennox or other brand unit next time. Trane will not be getting any patronage from our home again. Fortunately for our neighbors, they heard our troubles and cancelled an order with Home Depot for 4 Trane units and bought another brand. They are thankful we shared this information with them. If I have it my way, our whole neighborhood will avoid Trane.

We have 2 three-yr-old air conditioning systems. On 8/23, one unit stopped working. We called for service hoping to get the system up & running without paying a lot of money & since the unit is still fairly new, we prayed that parts would still be covered under the manufacture. "No such luck". We were told that we had to replace an E-Z trap, $177.00, a Safety T, $199.00. We were charged for a tune up $155.00, a diagnostic fee $99.00, an Indoor Coil (still covered under warranty) but with labor & other charges, it cost $809.00, a Coolant R-410A $69.00. The other system made an extremely loud noise while running so we had them to check that system as well and were told it needed a condenser fan motor, $209.00. We moved into our new home on 4/15/10. I can't image why so many problems would be happening to these systems so soon. When I reached out to Goodman to make them aware of what was going on, of course I was asked if we had an extended warranty (wish we had been told about that early on). Their only suggestion was to have the company making repairs to contact distributor for Goodman so that a field tech specialist can come out with company making repairs and make an assessment to see what's going on with the system. I am very upset that we had to spend so much money on these systems so soon and I hope Goodman will stand behind their reputation.

We've bought our system just over 5 years. Went away on vacation to come home to 87 degrees in our home. The HVAC people came out and said that it was the compressor, and our unit wasn't registered. (GO FIGURE). So I proceeded to call about our warranty. I was told that the unit wasn't registered (which it was) and they will not replace the compressor. I got 3 prices on replacing the unit and all 3 were well over $1500. I wish now that I would have come to this page and seen all these negative reviews!!! Trust me. If you are thinking of buying this POS please re-think it...

Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a "preferred customer". VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carrier's prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just don't "make 'em like they used to" and Carrier doesn't really care about their residential consumer customers either. I won't be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!

Iceman only diagnoses AC problems that are not covered under warranty and then attempts to charge enormous fees to get problem fixed. AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and can't get one because Iceman can't diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman won't get me one.
