I called TRANE because my TRANE HVAC unit was having problems but working. They said the technician will make only a diagnostic. That, last 4 hours!: broke my thermostat, turn off all the system and just run away, left me with 90 temperature inside the house at night. Before, my system was working 78 to 80 (when the technician arrived was 80). Now is totally off. Please do not trust them, more if you have children in this time of the year with this heat wave.

After having my condenser coil replaced at a labor cost of 928.00 on my 5 and a half yr old 2.5 Ton XR13 I contacted Trane consumer affairs to see if they would cover some or all the labor costs. They took my info and told me it would have to go before a review board. 2 weeks later a Trane rep contacted me, denied my claim stating I did not have a service contract at a cost of 160.00 dollars a yr (which I now have) and if it was up to him he would not have warrantied the condenser coil. I explained to him the tech that replaced the unit identified the leak at the bottom of the coil and the vibration could have caused it to leak. I wasn't expecting much from him after he denied my claim, he is being paid by Trane to deny claims.. he probably gets a bonus for it. Count me in on any class action suits, I don't think my problems are over.

Iceman only diagnoses AC problems that are not covered under warranty and then attempts to charge enormous fees to get problem fixed. AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and can't get one because Iceman can't diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman won't get me one.

Purchased an American Standard (owned by Trane) HVAC in spring 2017. In spring 2018, the AC was not cold. Technician diagnosed the problem: leaking indoor coil. He replaced and recharged it, then told me that the $545 for labor/refrigerant was NOT covered under warranty - only parts are. When he sensed my outrage, he explained he was "on my side" and told me to call Trane Customer Service. I did - case #**. They explained the warranty to me (as if I needed that), and I made it clear that it IS A JOKE. How can a company stand by their product when they are asking consumers to incur cost for THEIR MISTAKES! When the supervisor realized I was not going to stop complaining (no yelling, no cursing), she asked if there was anything else she could help me with, to which I answered "you have not helped me at all," and then she hung up on me as I began my next sentence... DO NOT BUY TRANE/AMERICAN STANDARD!!!

I have a Goodman heat pump that was installed in Dec 2009. It started leaking freon last year. Just 2 pounds. This year it started freezing up. Guess what? Needs more freon and r22 is high. Just found out r22 production will cease in 2016. This unit is leaking like crazy. Called Goodman. They say my unit is out of warranty because it wasn't registered in first 60 days. What? Is this a gimmick? Thought it came with a 10-year warranty. Seems like a easy way for them to get out of warranty for their products.I've had cheap Walmart window units last longer than this piece of junk and way cheaper. I found a new a-coil for sale on internet for 500 bucks but found out it might leak when installed new. The a/c company said they would install one for 1500$. Are you kidding. This unit is out of warranty 6 months. Would have been better off paying extra for something better. Overall this will cost me much more in the long run. Goodman customer service is terrible as the guy there just kept saying to call one of their dealers. In my opinion Goodman needs to go out of business or do what's right and fix these faulty units.

My Carrier air conditioning unit is less than 12 years old. The compressor has failed and seized. I understand the industry average should be 15 to 20 years or more of life. I paid a premium for my Carrier unit when I bought it. I contacted Carrier and they said it was out of warranty and basically it's my hard luck. Based on my experience if you want an air conditioner to last longer than 11 years 10 months, don't buy a Carrier unit. I live in Chicago. I wonder how long this unit would have lasted in Texas.

The Carrier/Bryant air handler for a heat pump has a plastic pan inside the unit to catch condensation. The plastic pan material is of poor quality for the environmental temperature swings that it should have been designed in which to operate. After only 2.5 years, the pan cracked in July, water soaked the air handler insulation, and caused the ductwork to drip condensation on to the attic insulation and ruin the ceiling below the unit. The secondary protection pan under the air handler caught the water that dripped from the air handler but there was no protection for the plenum and ductwork which was collecting a vast amount of moisture from the soaked air handler. This is where the ceiling damaged occurred. Florida summers are hot and humid so the unit will produce a lot of condensation and a broken pan causes a lot of damage and high repair cost.The unit was under warranty so the replacement pan is free but the labor takes 4 hours to remove the coils, replace the pan, and replace the internal insulation in the unit. The internal insulation is not covered by the warranty so that is an extra cost. So there is about $700 of labor and insulation cost to replace a pan under warranty. Plus I need to repair my ceiling where the leak occurred. I suggest that Carrier should recall these pans and replace them with pans made of higher quality material. Perhaps made with plastic that is thicker, more flexible, and can withstand extreme heat and cold temperature swings. The pan is located next to the coil so when the heat pump is operating, the pan gets hot and obviously brittle. Also units should be designed so that parts can be quickly replaced. That seems to be a lost art. I have done some research and found that Lennox has a thicker more flexible pan that doesn't crack under normal use of the A/C and heat pump operation.
