My GE Profile dishwasher is now 4 years old and Ive put up with it not cleaning well. For the last 3 years, I get a cloudy gray film over the dishes and finally figured out what is happening!! There is a gray rubber/plastic border around the bottom screen piece that has all the holes in it and covers most of the bottom of the dishwasher. I gently scraped with my finger and lo and behold its like gray putty!! So, the whole border of this gray rubber/plastic is disintegrating!! I had a 4 year warranty from Sears and they sent out a repairman. He is just going to order that whole screen part and replace it. He scraped the rubber and it came off for him too!! He said he never saw that before. He said it is probably the fault of my detergent which comes from health food stores and NOT the Cascade that they promote. Anyway, now I know where the gray film is coming from... Weve probably been consuming this for 4 years, a little at a time (NOT GOOD)!!! Im not thrilled with Cascade either!! Probably my LAST GE product to buy!!

After heating some water in the microwave, I opened the door and removed the water. A few minutes later, I heard a noise and noticed the microwave was running and the control panel indicated it was off. I opened the door it turned off. Closed it and it was on. Smelled something burning electrical in nature. I had to kill the circuit breaker to turn it off. I opened the door and felt the inside of the microwave and it was extremely hot. I was concerned that it could result in a potential fire, I continually checked it until I felt it was cool.

I have bought 3 GE appliances in the past 2-5 years, a microwave, dishwasher and oven with cooktop. They are all white and the white paint is peeling off. The microwave is the worst with most of the paint gone from the metal around the window inside. I will never buy another GE appliance again. To have 3 different appliances with peeling paint signals a definite quality control problem in the company.

GE Profile Dishwasher Model GLD4400N10WW - This was the second GE dishwasher I have purchased and it will be the last. When guests come to my home, they ask whats wrong with my dishwasher when helping me in the kitchen. The racks are bubbled and there is a burn mark by the heating element from overheating. The dishes have always been too hot to unload afterwards that you have to leave the door open for ten minutes before touching them, or you will burn your hands. I purchased this dishwasher from Lowes on 2/23/2008 for $368.88. I see that there is a recall on the dishwasher now, and it is only worth a repair. Quite frankly, my dishwasher is all ruined inside and it needs more than just a new heating element. It isnt worth it to me. It is very noisy and sounds awful when I use it. I will not be putting any money into replacement parts at this point, and I am very disappointed with my purchase. A dishwasher should last more than 3.5 years. My dishwasher should be replaced for free, not just get a new element. My husband is a licensed builder and he will not be using GE either, after this experience. I am enclosing a photo of the burns.

We had a GE dishwasher installed by the builder when the house we live in was built and it was one of the ones which were recalled as a fire hazard. We didnt really have any issues with it though, other than it was a bit noisy. With the credit offered, we decided to upgrade to a high end Profile model. The sound proofing is impressive and it was actually hard to tell the unit was on, but that is the only thing you can say that is good about the machine. As a dishwasher, it fails miserably and often items come out dirtier than when they went in. OK, weve struggled on with that for some time now but today, a nasty burnt plastic smell brought us both to the kitchen to investigate. Sure enough, the replacement for the fire hazard was the culprit. Obviously, it will need some serious repairs before it is safe to use once more. Looking through this and other sites, it seems this problem is rife and GE is reluctant to deal with the issues. Well I think that will be our last GE appliance. Thank you very much and rather than throw good money after bad, we will put the repair costs towards another machine ABGE.

My parents owned the same GE microwave for over 25 years and had no problems with it. However, after theirs finally died 2-3 years ago, my parents made the mistake of purchasing another GE microwave. BIG MISTAKE!!! It wont turn off unless they unplugging it! They have already paid to have a tech come out to fix it but the problem started again 3 months later. I called 1800GECARES and they said you either need to have a tech come out or we can replace it. I said Do you mean your solution is that my parents who just spent several hundreds of dollars on your defective appliance should spend several more hundreds of dollars to purchase another one from GE? Why did their last one last over 25 years but this one only lasted around 2-3 years? Why dont you stand by your products? Their response was I can connect you to customer service for further help. I said I think Im going to stop wasting my time. and hung up on them. Dont trust the GE name, it doesnt mean what it used to!!!

I bough a GE microwave oven, model JVM1740SM1SS, less than 2 years ago. The keypad says that it is shorted out and needs service. It turns on randomly. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it will either say, service needed, keypad shorted out or press clock.GE has so many complaints about there microwaves, some that are very serious. They still claim that there are no problems with them. They have to know there are problems, but do not want to issue a recall and take a financial lose. Its only a matter of time, before something so serious happens that it will be a bigger financial lose than a recall.

I purchased this GE Adora dishwasher about 3 years ago from Home Depot and it cost about $550 which I think should translate into a well made dishwasher. I only run it about twice a week so it gets low use. On inspection this month I noticed the racks were already starting to rust and that there was a tear in the door gasket. I called the 800 number for GE consumers and they told me they could order me the racks for $200 a piece and that they would send out a repairman for $139 plus the $40 part. This is more than the dishwasher cost. They also told me I should have purchased the extended warranty and that this particular dishwasher has only a one year warranty. What happened to GE? My family has GE refrigerators for years without an issue and my dishwasher is already exhibiting problems after 3 years.

GE Profile Microwave wall oven combo model PT970SOM1SS - We have a few years old unit very gently used. However, we now have the paint peeling and flaking from the top and back interior wall of the microwave. Some spots have bare metal exposed. Contacted GE and they told me there was no fix for it other than replacing the device. Now they cannot replace the Microwave alone. The whole unit has to be replaced at a cost of ~ $2800.00. This is ridiculous. There should be a recall as there are several other complaints about similar issues.

We purchased a new home with a GE Profile dishwasher installed. Since the day we had it, we have never been satisfied with the cleanliness of the dishes. They frequently come out covered in food and must be rewashed. We now routinely prewash everything in the sink and we always use the cookware setting to wash everything. Despite this, we still have to re-run loads because they are not clean.I am convinced that there is a design error with our dishwasher, because the top dish shelf obstructs the door of the soap compartment and prevents it from fully opening. After a load has run, you can still see leftover soap dried and crusted in the soap container. If the dishwasher cannot even wash the soap out of the soap compartment, no wonder our dishes are not clean.

I have written to GE Appliances Consumer Relations for a replacement but pending another service call. I purchased a new GE washing machine, and a new GE dishwasher, less than 5 years ago. The washing machine started leaking suddenly, and the repairman stated it was due to a cracked basket. They stated this was very rare, but the warranty had expired. The repairs would cost as much as a new machine. The dishwasher stopped draining water. A repairman advised there were two pumps, and one or both may be out. Estimates to repair the unit were only slightly less than the cost of a new unit.I will never again purchase GE appliances. I believe the life of a home appliance should be longer than 5 years. The cheap units I bought in my younger years lasted 20 years, without any problems. The GE units are not quality machines, and repair costs are outrageous. Nice way to try and convince appliance owners to just go buy new units. I can guarantee, I will not buy GE products ever again.

Purchased a new stainless steel 1200 watt General Electric Microwave in 2012. By 2013, the opening latch broke. They were willing to send the part as long as (I did the labor). I did the repair and put the machine back in service. At the end of 2014, an electrical storm occurred inside the unit with smoke and flames beginning within the control side of the unit. I unplugged it, let it cool, then later confirmed it was ruined. I tried consumer service again. They sent a repairman out to confirm the unit was not repairable. This time they called 2 days later and offered me a $20 coupon toward a new, retail GE microwave.Basically, they wasted my time. They should have just told me I was screwed and their units now only last 2 to 3 years, even if you buy a top end counter model. I waited at home 2 hours for this repairman to come by and several phone calls and would have more appreciated a quick answer, gotcha sucker! You bought a piece of crap GE product and youre screwed!

My GE microwave oven turns on by itself. The GE microwave oven model number: JVM1540DN1WW. The serial number is: RS903539B. My GE microwave oven turns on by itself usually as if the one minute express button was pressed in. This has been occurring for about 2 years and has been doing this normally when the air conditioner is not turned on. It appears this is a humidity issue. All summer it has been working fine. As the weather has started to be lower and we turned off the air conditioner, the problem has come back. When the temperature rises and we put the AC on again the unit will work fine. We live in Florida and it can be humid outside but with the AC turned on the humidity is lower and the microwave will work fine.

In late March, we placed a service call under GEs one year warranty. The outcome - a gasket repair. Within a week or two, the door began to drip from both the right/left bottom. With having three teens, I figured someone opened the door and released some water. Well, that just wasnt the cause. Shortly over the next few days, the leak was consistent and I placed a service call to GE on 4/19. The customer representative offered, instead of a service call, to order some panels that fit it the bottom of the dishwasher. I stated clearly that our one year warranty was up on 4/25 and if this does not work, would GE address the issue with a service call? Answer was yes. Within a few weeks, I began to worry when I did not receive the panels. A call to GE was made; however, no documentation was noted of the call made on 4/19. However, GE stated the information might be in parts department, but regardless now, that call was made after one year warranty, extended warranty would fix the issue. Long story short, the extended warranty states problem initiated under GE and GE states the extended warranty is responsible because the call was made outside the one year warranty. I expressed that GE never fulfilled responsibility as GE did not even notify us that panels were not available for our unit. In the meantime, I am the one out of a working dishwasher. Now I know $539 may not be a lot to invest, but we feel the loss. The frustration and lack of responsibility to correct the repair is just beyond me. GE is responsible. Oh and did I share that lack of communication with GE is horrible? A promised call within 12-24 hours just doesnt happen. Again, I know most would say its not worth the frustration, but it makes me sad that GE and Assurant Warranty company can get away with what I know is wrong. Weve learned from this ordeal. No more GE products in our household.

If my wife puts my dinner the refrigerator and I take it out and put it into the microwave if the dinner has let’s say pork chops, mashed potatoes, peas everything gets cooked except the mashed potatoes. They’re always cold and sometimes the peas will pop. There’s never a good medium for all foods at once and if you have any bread or biscuits you have to take it out after 15 seconds. Fact no. 1: On 02/25/07, I supplanted a burnt-out 12-year old Kenmore microwave oven. Regretfully, my replacement of choice is a GE JES1456WJ02 unit acquired at Home Depot in Cumberland. At that stage, my spouse was afflicted with an advanced case of Parkinsons disease, and eventually, I had her concerned caregiver reporting having found chips of paint spread on food extracted from the new oven. From that point onward, I established a close watch of the infamous appliance, after confirming that the chipping paint originated from the roof of the GE oven. But I withheld from filing a claim with GE at the time because my wifes health deterioration absorbed all my attention.Fact no. 2: But on 12/12/09, a couple of months after my beloved one passed away, I decided to take the oven to a Home Depot claim department where they immediately agreed to replace the defective unit for another one of similar characteristics. With a sigh of relief, thinking that I had taken care of the problem, my assumption was incorrect.Fact no. 3: Today, 10/28/11 in fact, I discovered chips of paint floating over a plate of soup extracted from the GE oven. I was aghast! I couldnt believe it! Still, further inspection determined that the lousy internal coat of paint is likewise peeling off from this monstrosity appliance manufactured by GE.

I thought that making a purchase of GE products would be a positive experience especially with GE Customer service - should they be needed for resolution of any complaints. Wow... was I wrong! I purchased a GE Microwave (junk), a GE refrigerator (junk & previously submitted a review), a GE Stove (no problem - so far) & a GE Dishwasher (junk) & this review is based on this product. All of the aforementioned GE products were purchased at the same time. The dishwasher began to leak & malfunction. I called GE & they put me through the paces - the beginning of another terrible experience. I was directed by GE & RC Willey to Consumer Electronics who send out a repairman who proceeded to rip me off for 165.00 for a part that didnt work! C.E. denied sending a serviceman to service the dishwasher! I returned to GE for help in getting my dishwasher back in service. The ONLY solution that they offered me was a replacement that I had to purchase! Bottom line the experience cost me close to 675.00!! The Original GE Dishwasher cost me 1,000.00!! GE refused to take the dishwasher back or even give me any type of credit for what I have. What I have now is another GE piece of junk that I had to pay full price for - $550.00 + tax, etc... The washer runs forever - does a terrible job in washing & rinsing & leaves a film & a white powder-like film on the glasses. Ive changed detergents in an effort to get a decent wash out of it & that hasnt worked. I am so sorry that I spent so much money for GEs Top of the Line appliances only to end up frustrated with GE Junk & a Customer Service Department that was just as good as their product. I would NEVER purchase or even think of purchasing another GE product!!! My advice to anyone considering purchasing ANY GE Product is Dont Do It.

Ive replaced screws that show signs of rust with aftermarket stainless screws. Cafe oven has had three front knobs just fall off - two were repaired under warranty and had to purchase extended warranty on third because it was more cost effective. Cafe Refrigerator had drain plate in back of unit completely rust away, tech knew what problem was before he stepped foot in my kitchen, he told us this was common. He caulked some sensor inside fridge box during service, I asked why, his response was its a design flaw and unit will operate better with this modification. Model #JVM1790SK01. High end GE Profile microwave/convection oven. Purchased and installed in 2009. First off the exhaust fan is terrible and is very noisy. The product itself worked well until recently when now the microwave heats intermittently, one time it will come on and heat, next time nothing. The fan runs, but no heating. The truly frustrating part is I need the front venting and no other units have the vents that blow the air outward, all the new units blow the air straight up your cabinets. Certainly a high end unit should last longer than 5 years with only two adults using it now and then. The cost of the service is outrageous and I surely would not use the $100 rebate on another GE product if they do not last any better than this one.

I bought a GE Profile dishwasher 3 years ago. After two weeks it was broken. I called Mabe Appliances and they sent out a tech. He told me it was broken. When I called Mabe back the service people told me to read the manual...yes really. Finally after a lot arguing they replaced it. About a day after the 1 year warranty expired all but one of the cycles stopped working. I have to take it apart every 3 months to clean out the water output as its clogged and the water doesnt have any pressure and therefore does not clean the dishes. I got up this morning and the dishwasher was still running but there were no lights on the front of the unit. I turned it on around 8pm so it was running for 11 hours. When I opened the door it was apparent it had been stuck in the wash cycle the whole time. It is now completely dead. Nothing works. No lights. WHAT a piece of JUNK. Our $599 GE dishwasher of 3 years is literally falling apart. We have a GE Slate Colored Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher (GDT580SMFES) and over the past two weeks, the water stopped heating and 2 seals in the dishwasher started disintegrating. If you touch the seals (the main gasket at the bottom of the dishwasher and the main seal that keeps water from leaking outside of the dishwasher), parts of the seals come off on your fingers. We bought our dishwasher through Lowes with the extended protection plan and were having a hell of a time getting it fixed... Every time we call to make an appointment, its a minimum of 15 minutes on hold and it takes FOREVER for the new part to arrive/get the new part installed (almost 3 weeks now). So disappointed in our appliance and in Lowes for selling us such a lousy extended warranty. Never again!

Dishwasher Disaster SR# TD729818B M# CDT765SSF1SS - Please, Please, Please, help me to come up with a solution with the issues that have plagued me and my family since we purchased the dishwasher referenced below in the numerous e-mails and electronic correspondence! As I write this E-mail, the GE Assigned warranty repairman has the dishwasher in question torn apart and disassembled for the 3rd time in the last month and half (Please see included photos). A repair I was told was only going to be minutes to conduct has now lasted over 3 hours and caused me to miss a very important appointment. That time frame will go at least another hour if the repair is even possible? Not to mention that a dishwasher that has been used less than 25 times has once again been torn apart and reassembled. I dont care how well built they are, this in my mind affects their performance! The repairman from JK Appliance has spent at least 12 man hours of repair time on the dishwasher, made a half dozen calls to your tech support (check your records), and has never spent less than 4hrs here on a visit. Once again, I have to be here for those visits (time out of my day) plus the stress of watching a brand new $1600.00 dishwasher dismantled time after time! At what point does G.E. make a decision that the amount of money being spent to repair a defective machine is not worth it?? I have to believe that 12hrs of repair time plus an hour of travel time for three separate visits each way, has already added up to the price of a new/replacement dishwasher? The other two G.E. appliances (microwave/Gas Stove) purchased with our remodel last year have performed flawlessly and we are happy with them. However, the trouble with the dishwasher has soured us on ever considering G.E. again! I plan on sending this E-mail and attachments to every consumer/watchdog group (Consumer Affairs) that Im aware of and to the store (Lowes- Farmington N.M) that the appliance was purchased at. This is not meant to be a threat, Im just at my wits end as to how to get to the end of this long tortuous journey that a simple appliance has caused for me and my family. Yes, there are certainly more pressing problems in the world, but right now this is the one that is currently affecting my family and the happiness in our home! Please advise if there is another route that I need to go with this problem including any alternate points of contact (GEs Escalated Issues department). My phone number is ** and maybe a simple personal call of apology from someone at G.E. explaining what my alternatives are would be considered? Thanks for your time and consideration.

GE and this GLD5604V00WW dishwasher deserve MINUS 10 STARS. This is the single worst investment in an appliance that I have EVER made! What a waste of money and energy to have this thing. It worked properly through the 90-day warranty period and hasnt cleaned anything since. RUN, dont walk away from this purchase!

I have a 3 and a half year old GE Cafe Dishwasher which I paid over $1400 for and yesterday, when I ran it, I had a couple of cups melted when I opened it. This morning, I opened it to remove the remaining dishes. I closed the door to it and left for work. I did not run it again, just emptied it. My husband came home about an hour after I left to a house filled with smoke and the smell of melted plastic. He opened the dishwasher and found everything inside melted. The spinners, the silverware holder and all the plastic rack dividers were totally melted.Apparently, the heating element stuck on and overheated it. If he hadnt come home when he did, I believe our home would have caught fire. He said the whole kitchen was much hotter than the rest of the house. The service repair man said it cant be fixed because it got so hot it melted the seals in the motor. It was not a wiring problem with the house. It was a problem with the dishwasher itself. So now, I am out $1400 plus a house full of very toxic smelling smoke.

We renovated our kitchen with all new GE Profile appliances in 2017 before moving into our new house in 2018. Nov 1, 2018 our GE Profile stopped working and showed a leak message. We called GE who referred us to A&E Factory Service. The repairman arrived Nov 6 and proceeded to not be able to pulled the dishwasher out and tell me the list of things he wont do because of policy. Without inspecting the dishwasher but looking at his computer with the list of things that could be wrong, he said he ordered two parts and would return on Nov 23. Nov 23 came and no repairman. Calls were placed to GE Parts and Service who expressed their disappointment over the no show then proceeded to say that parts would not arrive before Nov 30 and that one of the parts was on back order. Once the parts came then another repair appt could be made. I will have been without a dishwasher for over a month with no alternative recourse. Service response and A&E Factory Service is less than poor.

2 year old GE ADORA dishwasher - I am so disturbed tonight after seeing what happened to the protection rubber that is on the exterior of my dishwasher. I decided to buy a new dishwasher because the bottom tray would not stop when pulled out at the correct stopping point. Today I got my new dishwasher installed and when the installers pulled the old one out I was shocked to see that the protectant that I would assume was placed to protect my house was melted all over my wall behind the dishwasher. WOW. Talk about a MAJOR fire hazard. Thank God my house didnt catch on fire because of this faulty equipment. Check out my pictures and you will see the pile of protectant that was under, on my wall, and behind the dishwasher once it was pulled out. Sincerely concerned.

We purchased the following from GE: GE Profile refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, oven and cooktop in 2006 (six years ago). Last six weeks, the refrigerator, dishwasher and cooktop broke! We have insurance through Assurant on the products since it was recommended. We purchased the insurance for repairs and parts. Refrigerator - the motherboard (if you have other words for this) went out (4 weeks for a part). Now it is fixed. Dishwasher PDW8280NSS - This was the final answer from GE Consumer Affairs:I do apologize for this entire experience. I will be more than happy to contact you today between the time frame of 02:30-04:45 PM CST. Any additional questions you may have, you can contact me quickest by email. Again, I do apologize and I will contact you later today to discuss further options available to you. At this time, being the part is not available, the best option would be to offer a prorate on this dishwasher for you in order to have a functioning dishwasher in your home. I do appreciate your patience in handling this matter and will most certainly speak with you this afternoon. Thank you. Really, I have a case manager? The products must be really ** good if you need this as a department. Everyone should rethink buying GE products. Never again. I am campaigning against them! I cant get the part on a six-year-old high-end dishwasher. We live in the US, dont we? This should be a class action suit!

I purchased all GE Profile & Café appliances when we remodeled our kitchen in 2012. The DW has never cleaned well. I have contacted GE through email several times and now I have to handwash all of the silverware and re-wash most of the dishes. At times, glasses and silverware come out worse than when they went in. We have checked the water temp, pipe size. We use recommended detergent and finish rinse. We had a service call from a reputable appliance repair person, we purchased the recommended citric acid and performed the recommended protocol. This thing stinks! GE recommended another service call. I had a 20+ year old KitchenAid prior to this and it worked like a champ! Never an issue. I am ready to toss it out and buy something else (but it wont match!). Any suggestions?!!

We have GE Profile Quietpower 6 Dishwasher. We are the second owners of the home and did not buy it ourselves. But the dishwasher is no more than 3 years old. Our dishwasher also refused to turn off after it was done washing dishes, usually humming for hours afterward. One day, we came home and found that the whole house smelt of burnt plastic. Our dishwasher was burning hot and full of burnt plastic. It was off, so we unplugged it to make sure it would cool down. We dont expect any help from GE, but we will never buy GE ourselves. And we will make sure to tell our friends to never buy GE.

Purchase date 4/20/15; Model # GDT 580 SMF ES; Serial # VD776355; Dishwasher wasnt installed until the end of June upon completion of a complete kitchen renovation. Eight months later, on March 1, 2016, the dishwasher was leaking water all over the kitchen! I initiated a service call and the repair man replaced the seal and it has worked without leaking until April 13, 2016. AGAIN a very large amount of water poured out of the left side of the door. The repair man had to return 3 more times and finally didnt have a leak for almost another year. Now, June 1, 2017 my kitchen is once again flooded. This machine is garbage - Very expensive garbage. Dont waste your money! I had previously purchased from Sears and never had a water leak in a machine that was 20 years old.

About a year and a half ago, I bought a GE Profile dishwasher from a very reputable local dealer. Within 3 months, the digital control panel failed. Because it was still under warranty, the dealer replaced the panel. It failed again. This time they made other adjustments, it continued to fail. Finally GE suggested that the dealer replace the entire door panel, which they did. It took the repairman a couple of hours to do so. Still didnt work. Finally GE declared the machine non repairable and replaced it. Unfortunately the men who replaced the dishwasher didnt install quite correctly because it leaks. I keep a plastic container under the front left corner to collect the water every time the dishwasher runs. But the story doesnt end there. This machine and the first one both include a sensor that apparently check for objects that obstruct the spray arms. I dont know because theres nothing that tells me why the machine is beeping when I attempt to start it. I check the spray arms, move dishes, try to start it again and still get the beeper. I have done this over and over and over again and still it beeps. I have essentially emptied the dishwasher and it still beeps. When it does run, I have to use the boost temp. option and the longest cycle available to get dishes, and I mean dishes, even passably clean. Forget pots and pans, or casseroles. So, if you own a GE dishwasher, I hope that you have the old fashioned dishpan and dryer rack handy. Bottom line, it doesnt clean well, leaks, and beeps every single time I try to start it. Buy something else.

Purchased a GE 650 dishwasher which we quickly discovered has terrible racking for North American dishware. Also the control panel is overly complicated yet limited to use (always flashes settings even when not in use). Once you figure out how to load dishes into the very tight/ narrow tines they fall over and chip/break. When investigating the dishwashers by GE made in China/Taiwan etc all have same issue. The ones made in USA by GE have wider and longer tines. We have had MANY dishwashers over the 40 years and NEVER had one as bad as this. When calling GE customer service the senior rep was not willing to offer any customer satisfaction as nothing technically was wrong. At one point she stated we had made the purchase so live with it even though it was the wrong choice. We offered to pay for any cost difference, etc. When questioned about GEs interest in customer satisfaction she stated that was not a warranty issue. She was not concerned about a satisfied customer. With that, we will not be purchasing another GE product or its affiliates. What a waste of money.

It wouldnt turn off, so we unplugged it. We are lucky that it didnt catch the house on fire. NEVER go to sleep with your dishwasher running. All the stuff you see at the bottom is plastic that dripped down. It melted the bottom of the silverware rack, and some silverware fell down to the bottom where the plastic handles of the knife handles melted. There is brown residue, so I think it did start to catch fire. Thank goodness we woke up early.

Bought our GE Microwave (DVM1850DMWW) from Home Depot about 5-6 years ago. I can see a unit just failing; but to start burning, smoking and smelling is non-excusable. We were lucky enough to be in the kitchen at the time and catch the problem before it escalated. While the unit was just ok while it worked, potentially burning down our kitchen is inexcusable regardless of age. Time for a range hood and a small countertop model. A non-GE model.

We purchased our new GE Over-the-Range Microwave (model HVM1750DPWW, 1.7 cu. ft.) for $269.00 in February of 2012 and in August of 2013 it started to malfunction. Specifically the microwave would start on its own whenever we would OPEN the door. Now the microwave does not work at all (with the door closed or open). Based on the feedback that I have read in some of the posts on this site, I will replace the microwave since the maker can no longer be trusted to manufacture units that are robust and safe. But what manufacturer can be trusted at this point? It is my understanding that all microwaves (from all major companies) are currently made overseas with poor materials and highly suspect safety and quality standards. (Note - previous GE Microwave [same type - over the range] lasted for 14 years.) Thanks to Consumer Affairs for allowing us to post unfavorable reviews.

Then the other day I went to open the dishwasher and the doors spring gave away, hence slamming to the floor and crushing my big toe. I should have heeded the warning and gone to another brand, but on 12/31/10, I paid over $500 to replace the microwave with a new GE Profile to match the existing appliances. Apparently this was a big mistake as the magnetron has failed yet again. The microwave is on its own separate 20A circuit, so that shouldnt be an issue. It would seem, however, based on the number of complaints I see on this site, there is something inherently wrong with the manufacture of these microwaves, or more specifically the magnetrons. I purchased this GE dishwasher May 2015 through Amazon. Immediately after installation I was having trouble where it kept beeping when I went to wash dishes. A repairman came out and said there was a recall on the control panel and he replaced - no charge. In July 2017 this dishwasher flooded onto my laminate floor. I found it in the morning when I woke up. An appliance repairman came out. Did not know why it flooded. No charge this time, but he made a few adjustments and it seemed fine. Then the bottom sprayer arm broke. The heat shields fell off and the arm melted. I had that replaced. Then the washer would not dry - no matter what I did. Repairman came out. He did not have access to the GE computer program but made some suggestions. No charge. Dishwasher seemed to dry better for two weeks. Then in August it flooded again. A repairman came out. Ran the dishwasher, but it did not flood, so he did not know what the problem was. This time charged me $60 and said call if it floods again. Obviously I am afraid to run the dishwasher at night or when I am away in case it floods again. Plus the dishwasher is not drying completely.I have contacted GE. Their response is: Normally we dont do this because your warranty has expired already; however, I have a bit of a soft spot and think some extra consideration is due. I did a lot of research and came up with a couple options to help you out: I realize this is not ideal but we can extend to you our discount into any new model if you find its not cost effective to repair. I found the 2017 comparable model for you. Really??? I dont want another GE. I want a refund as this is a piece of junk. Plus this kind person said it would only cost me $484 and I will have another warranty.

I just had a GE tech out to my house to look at a GE profile dishwasher that almost burned down last week. There was not a cover over the internal electronic control panel inside the dishwasher and that was causing the circuit board to short out. The dishwasher is only 2 1/2 years old. GE wants to charge us $200 for the repairs. But this should be something covered under warranty. Their solution is for us to pay half. I think we will go and begin to look for a new dishwasher and never purchase another GE appliance. If you are in the process of building a house and equipping your home with new appliances, I highly recommend you look for another line and another brand of appliances. I purchased a GE microwave from PC Richard and Son in 2011. The microwave is mounted above the oven. On March 13, 2013, the microwave (model JVM1750DP1WW) sparked a fire inside while my daughter cooked a waffle. After I contacted GE via email, the case manager (Misty) sent a technician to my home to inspect the microwave. This was free of charge. The technician claimed the microwave was able to be repaired and he needed to order touch up paint and a few parts. I was shocked that the tech claimed this was a simple repair and able to be fixed. I said, You need touch up paint? This is going to look horrible. How safe can this be after having a fire inside? He claimed it will look good and I would not notice the paint. I spent $411.00 on this microwave less than 2 years ago. I dont think I should have it fixed and touched up with paint to cover burn marks. The microwave went on fire. I dont want it fixed. Its not safe and should be scraped for safety regulations, not repaired and touched up inside with paint. The tech ordered a few parts and I immediately called the case manager Misty to stress to her my numerous concerns on the actions of the technician. I made clear that I was not satisfied with my microwave being fixed and painted when it went on fire, but would like a replacement. I told her I could understand fixing it if it was a broken part or electronic device, but not a fire. She agreed that she also would not like to have a fixed microwave in her home, but that GE can sell me one at a lower price of $150.00. Really, do they need the money that bad that they cant stand behind a dissatisfied consumer when their product went on fire? This could have been so much worse. Lucky my daughter was in the next room. She smelled, heard the fire and stopped the microwave. I paid the $150 just so I can have a working, new, safer microwave in my kitchen. But this is crazy and not good business ethic on GEs behalf. This should be set as a recall, not a repair. I contacted the service manager again stressing my complaint and feelings about paying this fee for a new microwave. She said again that if the technician says the microwave can be fixed, then theyll listen to the technician and fix the item. Well this seems a little one sided since the technician works for GE. No brainier. What do you think he is going to say?

We bought a GE cafe series microwave (model/serial number: pnm919sf1ss/gd235771b) and 4 months later it ceased to function. We just had a remodel and for the first time had an expensive, over the oven microwave and were very excited. Unfortunately, unlike the 2 cheap microwaves weve purchased in the last 36 years, this one we had used for 3 months total, developed problems. The motor seemed to surge and then it would go off. Half an hour later it came back on but would only work for about 5 minutes at a time. I called GE and they arranged for a local company to come take a look. They insisted on a 4 hour window and fortunately my husband is retired so he could be there. The repairman came and didnt have a clue as to what was wrong. He called his boss who talked him through diagnostics. After an hour he left, saying hed be back in a week with some new parts. Again we had to wait the 4 hour window. He came in and we were on pins and needles hoping he wouldnt scratch our cabinets as he took the unit down. He replaced the microwave component and when he left it worked. Two days later it again died. I called the repair people and they told me I had to call GE to get permission for another attempt at repair. I called GE and they said I had to call customer service to file a report. They told me I had to make an appointment for a technician to come out to see if the microwave could be repaired. Really??? The technician would try to repair it again or decide it couldnt be repaired and needed to be replaced. Like we have nothing better to do than wait for these repair people who have no clue as to how to repair the microwave. Every time they take down the microwave they risk ruining our cabinets. It was so unhelpful. I am really disappointed in GE customer service. We had to go out and buy a microwave to use while we were waiting for the repair. They obviously dont care that we cant use their expensive product. Our replacement microwave was $40 from Walmart and works beautifully. We finally complained to our WONDERFUL contractor who originally purchased the microwave for us and he is replacing it with a new one. He was appalled by GEs treatment. He takes note of appliances that are crap so he can warn customers. I thought I was buying from a reputable company and thinking we were getting a great and special product. Too bad.

The repair company on their 4th visit told me wrong part again and that they refuse to come out anymore. They lost enough money already. When talking with GE consumer Dept. promises of a call back by a manager has been non existent, now they wont even return my call. I have a 5yr extended warranty on the dishwasher and I cant seem to get anywhere with the factory warranty. GE by far the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. They were happy to take my money for 4 top of the line appliances, after that youre non existent to them. Its a shame that legal counsel is what seems my only avenue. Will never consider buying GE products ever again.

Bought at Lowes (GE Slate GDT655SMJES Dishwasher). Even bought the extended warranty. Leaked and buckled the floor while it was under GE warranty on December 12. Had to file with our homeowners insurance to get entire floor replaced, $1000 deductible, twice. They have been out 5 times and still not fixed. Now the new flooring is damaged from same leak. After nearly $5,000 of damages, not to mention the time we have spent you would think a new $700 dishwasher would be cheaper. We bought the refrigerator, double oven, convection stove and dishwasher, matching. At this point seriously considering buying a different brand of dishwasher even though it wont match the slate. Never will we buy GE again, they dont stand behind their product, disappointed in Lowes as well for passing the buck.

My less than a year old GE microwave stopped working last week. My AT&T
My less than a year old GE microwave stopped working last week. My AT&T phone service died so I had to make repair arrangements online. Guy was here this morning. My microwave’s main board is fried. It does not conform to Repair Guy’s published schematics. Repair Tech could not upload new data to it. Repair guy did order three new parts including a main board. GE told Repair Guy that mainboard delivery ETA UNKNOWN. After three hours here repair tech left and told me to call GE customer care. Believe it or not, two hours on telephone with GE. First you need to talk to a customer service rep that cannot help you. They then determine you need a Customer Advocate. Then they need to input data on your file for the Customer Advocate. Then they need to transfer you to that department. Then you have to get a case number assigned. Then you give someone all the serial numbers and model numbers again. Then the Customer Advocate (CA) takes the call. The CA does not speak English as you and I speak English. After the CA puts me on hold to verify the purchase, then the appointment, then the tech and then the order they actually speak to me. In my case, the mainboard part is not available on CA’s computer. The CA has to electronically contact the parts department to find out if the part is in this universe. If the part can be delivered to my Repair Guy in Jackson, GA within 14 BUSINESS days from the date of the inquiry I have to take the part and wait for repair. In the event the part cannot be delivered in 14 days CA will start a process to get me a new microwave. The parts department has up to 48 hours to respond to the CA. When asked what happens if no response occurs in 48 hours, I was told, That never happens. It is the Christmas Holiday and I anticipated guests. My husband is disabled and his meals are pre-made frozen so I will have to decompose them and heat them on the cooktop. GE could care less about those issues. So after waiting five days for repair I have no working microwave. Someone told me not to replace my GE with a GE, but I did not listen. It is December, holidays, no microwave is an aggravation that I thought paying for a GE product would alleviate. So, on January 2nd I might get an answer. Part possible or new appliance COULD be ordered and delivered by someone sometime.

Unit is only 7 years old and not greatly used (only two adults who dont use it much)… Purchased as part of package including GE refrigerator, range and dishwasher (already got rid of refrigerator, as parts kept breaking and unit had other chronic problems). I turned the microwave on to make popcorn - it immediately made a terrible noise and filled with smoke with an electrical smell. Unplugged the unit and contacted GE Repair. When I described what happened, I was transferred immediately to their safety unit because of the nature of the problem. A GE technician arrived today and almost immediately diagnosed the problem: a metal component that directs the waves of the microwave generation tube had burned out, and by federal regulation, he claimed, cannot be repaired - the whole appliance must be trashed and replaced. Once again, I have experienced GEs poorly engineered products that appear to be designed to fail in a relatively short time. Can you spell planned obsolescence? (No photo provided, as there is no external visual damage).

GE Model JVM1540LM5CS - Fire inside microwave while making popcorn. Top center piece, inside microwave, caught on fire. Was able to quickly contain the fire to the circular plastic cover which I removed. Called GE customer relations for service. The service technician that came to repair our microwave said he had just come from a customer with the same problem. Sounds like GE should take a close look at the plastic piece that catches fire and see about replacing it with one that wont burn.

Emptying out the dishwasher I purchased in October 2016 is a cause for rage these days. Dishes, glasses, silverware, etc...come out of any wash cycle dirtier than they went in, though I have tried everything I can think of to see if anything at all can make it better. I purchased the dishwasher from BEST BUY. Little did I know, they dont take anything back after 15 days of purchase. They promptly referred me to GE. In turn GE reps said that their warranty only covers REPAIRS for the first year. In short, sucker me who spent near to $600, is stuck with a VERY BAD product from the moment I paid for it. And there is nothing I can do about it!!! GE IS CLEARLY SCAMMING ITS TRUSTING CUSTOMERS!!! I have been robbed!!!

We bought all new GE Cafe kitchen appliances when we remodeled our kitchen
We bought all new GE Cafe kitchen appliances when we remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago. The first Cafe dishwasher needed repairs in the first 3 months, and was replaced within 10 months due to continuing problems. The replacement GE Cafe dishwasher was deemed non-repairable after 2.5 years. The unit has a design flaw and the bracket holding the top water sprayer broke. The extended warranty with Assurant will not cover the dishwasher because they say it is not a working part. We are trying to get GE Customer Care to help but after three weeks the message we are getting is they do not care at all.The front burner on the cooktop will not light. GE cannot get a replacement part so the cooktop was also deemed nonrepairable after only 3 year. Our Cafe refrigerator also has a design flaw. The refrigerator must be unplugged to reset the computer when the water filter is changed. If you dont the refrigerator does not recognize the filter and will not dispense water. Needless to say I will never buy GE again. It is sad to see what was a good company go down the tubes.

After writing my review I was in the process of ordering parts for my dishwasher. I had a representative of GE in the parts department connect me to a GE manager. He was very helpful and understanding of the situation and helped resolve the issue with my dishwasher. My issue was with a customer service representative in the recall center when I inquired about anyone else having issues with their dishwasher and if there was a recall on the machine I purchased. Since I did not have an extended warranty the person I was talking to was extremely rude and would not answer any questions or concerns I had with the machine. I was not pleased with the customer service reps attitude and her ability to deal with the public.

Bought the new dishwasher in Dec. 2013. In November 2014 a month shy of warranty expire, the detergent dispenser did not release or partially released the detergent. GE sent out A&E Factory service to fix. First visit initiated the parts order which was a new computer board and a Cascade Series detergent dispenser. A month later the second visit to install parts, the A&E tech was at our home for 3 hours and it took that long to remove and replace detergent dispenser. The tech did not replace computer board stating it was not needed? A week later the detergent dispenser still did not release the detergent! Called back to set up another appointment which was at the earliest Jan 19th 2015. Meanwhile last Friday Jan. 9th 2015 the dishwasher started to smoke heavily causing smoke detector to go off at 9 p.m. at night. Thank goodness!! We were home so that I could disconnect the power. Third visit was 1/12/15 and was informed by Lead A&E tech that the board should have been replaced and that the tech that was sent out was a trainee and inexperienced to work on my dishwasher. He should of never worked on my dishwasher(!!) according to the Lead A&E tech. The Lead A&E tech also stated that my model has had a problem with the computer boards which is essentially the brain of the dishwasher. I am currently taking my fight back to GE since A&E Factory is a subcontractor to GE and is not authorized to replace appliances. I told GE that I want a new dishwasher that is not using the problem computer boards even if it is an upgrade. It is not our fault that they have work with A&E who send out inexperienced techs to work on complicated GE appliances. We want a dishwasher that we both feel safe to run while we are not home. Is that too much to ask for?

I purchased this GE Profile dishwasher last June, I paid $1,499.00 for it and have had three (3) service calls. The first one said the water is not hot enough, the second one said run the water in sink and get hot before you use the dishwasher. The tech was here again this morning and called in to tech services and was told put plates on the right side of the rack only and the dishes will get clean. Are they kidding me? I called the 800 number for customer service and was told by Dominic (rep in customer service) that they would replace the dishwasher and allow me a 40% discount on a new one because this one is working as designed. It is my understanding that the dishwasher should wash dishes, so that tells me it is not working as designed. I want a new dishwasher, preferably one that washes the dishes and not one that I have to pay an additional 60%. Are you kidding me? This is not right. I have read the reviews on this dishwasher and it seems everyone who purchased the dishwasher I have are having the same problems and it is not working as designed. Please let me know asap when the replacement dishwasher will be delivered. I will not pay an additional 60% for another. It is not right that you would keep making excuses until warranty runs out. I notified you of this problem one month after I purchased it and I have lived with this problem for almost one year and now you tell me that you will give me a discount on a new one. I have already paid for a new dishwasher and that is what I expect in return. Thank you. I expect to hear from you soon.

We have had our GE dishwasher model GDT580SMF5ES for only 1 year and a half. As I was closing the door the hooks that attached the outer shell/panel to the door broke. Unfortunately we didnt purchase extended warranty so this will not be covered. Bought a GE dishwasher that a service bulletin was generated by GE on a fault in their manufacturing. DD03-16 for reference. The door does not stay shut and continues to open. GE customer service suggested replacing hinges and brackets on the door. So I ordered the parts and changed them. It did not work. I called them back and they suggested purchasing and replacing additional parts. I called a local 3rd party and they provided the service bulletin and said that this is a problem in the design of these models. GE will not repair the problem. The cost has been shifted to me or they suggest buying a new dishwasher for only $150 over retail. They are hiding behind a warranty that expired, but the problem started at time zero when it was made. This is garbage and I have been without a working unit and continuing to argue with them over the repair or replacement cost. Call if you have this problem because they have identified it and have a solution that they will not tell you about.

We bought our home 4 years ago. After 2 years and 8 months the bottom of the door cracked and a piece fell off, then the door wouldnt close. We were past the warranty so we bought a new one since it would be cheaper to replace it than repair it. We didnt complain because we thought it was put in incorrectly by the builder. The new one was installed correctly this time. After 1 year and 8 months the door is doing the same thing. I contacted GE and they said there is no manufacture defects. Because we didnt purchase the extra warranty it would cost us $90 to have someone come out and look at it. We only paid $179 for the microwave. It is a huge problem for us! We will not buy another GE product. Mostly because the customer service isnt willing to help at all. They just transfer you to different departments who all tell you the same thing. Very disappointed in GE.

We recently purchased three GE Profile stainless steel appliances for our new home. The total was somewhere around $3500. Within two weeks our $1000 dishwasher would not work. It took FOUR service calls and THREE weeks for it to finally be repaired. Now our $2000 oven (traditional/convection) has stopped working and the oven light will not go off without us tripping the breaker. Service tech not available for 5 days. I am expecting the new micro to go out any day now. All of these appliances are less than two months old. We had GE builder grade appliances in our previous home that are still running strong after 16 years. That is the reason we went with GE again. However, after the above mentioned issues with our new GE appliances, I encourage anybody who reads this to NEVER, EVER BUY ANY GE PRODUCTS AGAIN.

I recently had a service tech out to repair my dishwasher. Before I knew it, he was opening the unit and found a tube looking piece stuck in the unit. He was at my house for 15 minutes and the bill was over $250. He should have asked if I was okay with the procedure he was going to perform and the cost before proceeding. To make matters worse, the dishwasher is not cleaning dishes now. I sent a prior email to GE a couple of weeks ago with no response. I would have never spent this money if I had been given the option and certainly now I have been charged for a repair that actually made my unit worse than before since it is not cleaning the dishes like it did before the repair. I respectfully requested that my money be refunded and/or be given a credit towards the purchase of a GE appliance and have received no response. I tried calling and have been on hold for over 30 minutes now with no one picking up, despite the fact that hold time stated estimated wait time was 5 minutes.

The biggest disappointment was the dishwasher. It doesnt clean since day one. We bought extended warranty and had numerous service calls since we bought it through ABT appliances. We moved into our home just over a year ago. We replaced all of the kitchen appliances; refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher with GE slate gray appliances. This was in November, 2014. On New Years eve (2016), the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. I removed the kick panel and saw water pouring from the pump. After the holiday, we finally got in touch with the appliance repair shop who handles GE warranty work in our area. They contacted GE on our behalf to see if GE would stand behind a product that was just over 1 month out of warranty. Bear in mind, this wasnt something simple like an indicator light burning out, this failure was catastrophic. GE basically told them (and us) to pound sand. We are a 2 person family. The dishwasher was used maybe twice a week during the year weve owned it. Amazing quality! Now Im looking forward to watching the rest of this stuff fall apart. It looks like the life span of the product and the warranty period are the same. How handy for GE. They must not have to depend on repeat business or take these negative reviews seriously.

GE GDF520PGDWW 24 white, full console dishwasher - Energy Star. I have had this dishwasher model since December 2014 and it has not drained consistently since the beginning either during the wash cycle or rinse cycle. GE has sent three different repair companies to replace the pump, the control panel, and ultimately the entire dishwasher, yet even the new dishwasher still does not drain consistently. Sometimes it drains and sometimes it doesnt. The GE-certified repairman was again here this morning and is again ordering a new pump. Counting the original pump, the previously replaced pump and the pump in the new unit, this would be the fourth pump. I tried to suggest the problem may not be the pump, but the repairman could not think of another possible issue. I do not recommend purchasing this dishwasher.

I purchased a GE microwave just a year ago. Ive had a few problems with it like the round glass plate that you cook food on cracking in half twice when the microwave wasnt even in use, and the control panel going stupid... requiring me to unplug it to get it back on track. The worst part is I purchased an entire kitchen work of GE appliances at the same time and Ive already had two service visits on the dishwasher.GE customer service is the worst! When I call they just keep repeating themselves and they never listen to what Im telling them. Today was the worst yet... I got this woman on the phone and she just kept telling me the microwave was not in warranty any longer as of last month. She also told me she only has two appliances listed on my account (no range or refrigerator) when they were registered at the same time as the other appliances and they have sold me filters for the refrigerator several times. All I can tell people is if you are considering buying GE appliances... DONT! They SUCK!

We purchased our GE Cafe stainless steel dishwasher in May of 2012. Periodically, it leaks around the bottom of the door. I have to put a plastic container on the floor to catch the water. This is bad enough and very disappointing, but the next and most important issue I have with it is the fact that it doesnt clean properly. I always, each and every load, rewash 3 to 4 items. The stainless handles also get very hot to the touch, which isnt very safe for a toddler. If I had the strength, Id pick it up and throw it out the back door. A dishwasher is designed to do one thing, wash dishes; its not a difficult concept. It is supposed to make life easier, not harder.

I purchased the GE Cafe dishwasher in March 2010. Starting in January 2012, some of the keypad options stopped working. Then in April 2012, the keypad stopped working completely and I could no longer get it to turn on. I did call GE for repair. When the repair person was out to fix it, they said that this model has a design flaw. It was originally designed to sit 1 below the countertop so that the heat could release without shorting out the keypad. However, that would require a person to somehow raise their entire counter or fit the dishwasher below the floor somehow. GE was aware of the problem but decided to ignore the problem. That means that even though my keypad was replaced, the same problem will occur again and again no matter how many times the keypad is replaced. I paid over $1400 for this model, and the labor charges alone cost me $200 for the repair. I think it is absolutely despicable that such a large company has allowed a high-priced, defective product to go out into the market, knowing that a major malfunction will occur out of warranty in such a short period of time.

Unfortunately, the GE dishwasher came standard in the new townhouse I bought. It is horrible! Within the first year it smelled like sulfur every time I turned it on. I tried cleaning it from top to bottom, but there is always grime after running it and a film on the dishes. Ive had dishwashers all my life and never experienced such a shoddy piece of **. I had many brands of dishwashers over the years, except for GE, and I dont remember having to take it apart and clean it once a week. If I dont clean it once a week it stinks!!! I couldnt stand the smell and finally called the GE repair expert. He knew less about the dishwasher than my cat. I could have purchased a new dishwasher for what I paid for the service call.
