Product Reviews:

I'm helping my father get his Rheem water heater taken care of. It broke several days ago. I went to the Rheem webpage and called a local plumber listed on Rheem's website. When I told the plumber I have a Rheem device, he immediately said, "Oh, I hate working on those. Everyone hates working on those. Rheem has made it very hard for us to work on their devices, and their tech service line even for us pros is entirely unhelpful." That plumber declined to provide service.I then called a second plumber listed on Rheem's website. They came out, evaluated the water heater, and concluded it was broken beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the device is still under warranty, so the plumber directed me to inform Rheem so that I could be sent a replacement. I called Rheem and was surprised that Rheem's customer service wanted me to do a bunch of diagnostic maneuvers on the device. Isn't that what the plumber listed on their website who came out did?Regardless, I did as Rheem wanted. Finally, they conceded that it needed to be replaced and was under warranty. But then they said for me to take advantage of the warranty, I need to disconnect the water heater, take it back to the place of purchase, pick up a new water heater there, and bring it back to my place. The water heater is 75 gallons in capacity, and disconnecting and transporting a water heater isn't something the average residential consumer can be fairly expected to do. Requiring me to do all of that functionally more or less makes the warranty a non-warranty. Overall, I've been unimpressed with Rheem's service and "warranty."

We bought an 80 gallon lifetime warranty electric water heater. We get about 20 minutes of hot water and then cold water. We've had 2 plumbers out and checked our system and said it has to be the water heater, but they don't want to mess with it in case it voids the warranty. Fine. We called Whirlpool and since the alarm system isn't indicating an issue, they say it's not the water heater. We now have to do a diagnostic ourselves to find out if it is the water heater. What? It has a warranty! We are not plumbers! How come Whirlpool doesn't think it's their equipment? We've already had ours checked and it isn't us! So frustrating and we will not buy another whirlpool product again! Not good customer service to promote repeat buyers. Whirlpool, shame on you.

February 2nd Sears techs came out 5 times to check the water heater. They replaced the gas valve, thermopile, and we replaced a 3/8 gas line to a 1/2 inch. They claimed it was low gas pressure afterward.P. G.&E checked. It is 9.0wc. 10 blink cont. And they still have not replaced it. We still have no hot water. It is less than 1 year old purchased June 2015.

Electric hot water heater model E40H6-45-100 - Purchased at Lowe's. Husband installed, tank filled, no hot water coming through house lines. Called support center several times after trying each recommendation that did not work. They kept saying it was a plumbing problem. My husband is very smart when it comes to electrical and plumbing. He has done numerous repairs to our homes over the last 30 years we have been married. He knows what he is talking about and told the support tech that he believed it was a faulty water heater. She immediately said the units are all tested before they leave the factory. The final step was to remove the nipple that the hot water flows through out of the tank and remove the two black bellows. Now my husband can see directly through the piece but also decides to put his finger through the the open whole on the top of the tank and cannot get his finger through - it is blocked. He gets a flashlight and a screw driver. Puts the screw driver through a thin plate that was blocking where the water should be coming through. He can now actually see the water in the tank. This was the whole problem! So they could not have tested this tank. They did give us a ref number to take parts back to store to replace parts we already bought and cannot use. It's the time and energy on what's suppose to be an easy job that counts. Will not recommend Whirlpool products to anyone and probably will not purchase any in the future. Ours was not as bad as most of the other reviews I read but wanted to advise others who may think about what brand to purchase.

On 12/27/2013 I bought a Whirlpool hot water heater from Lowe's Model NU50T122-403. On 12-13-2015 the pilot went out. When I called tech support on 12-14-2015 they gave number what were call centers or person who returned the calls. So I called a local plumber that I used before. He came out and told me that had to replace the pilot. On the 16th 2015 of Dec. that did not work and told us the heater needed to be replaced. The replacement will happen today I hope with little to no help from Whirlpool. I would advise you to do your homework before you buy a Whirlpool hot water heater.

People should consider themselves lucky to get 2 yrs, 1yr, 6 mos out of these pieces of junk. Mine replaced an 8 year old Bradford White that was originally installed when the house was built. Funny thing, we had the exact same BW in our last house. Same problem after exactly 8 years - tank leaked. Anyway, this Whirlpool 40 gal gas was installed by a professional plumber ($200) and ran fine for 6 days before the pilot went out the 1st time. In the next 10 days it went out 9 more times until it wouldn't stay lit at all. I would light the pilot and it would be out in 5 min or less. I watched for the error code the last time - 2 flashes which indicated thermocouple low voltage. This is totally ridiculous. After research - which I should have done before I bought - it looks like a total bad design problem with associated customer service nightmares and much additional cost to the customer. AND EVERYONE WHO MAKES AND SELLS THESE THINGS KNOWS ABOUT IT. Attempting to fix this thing - even IF labor was included - looks like throwing good money after bad. When are these companies going to be held accountable for producing cheap poorly designed products and then let the consumer foot the cost of labor and/or replacement. You can say all you want about "less government" but this is just a small example of what you get when you have "less government". Doing further research, it looks like NO manufacturer of gas water heaters can produce a reliable product now. So now, I'm installing a Bradford White ELECTRIC water heater. That's and extra $250 for the electrical service that needs to go in. AND additional for the actual install by a plumber. At least Lowe's is not giving me a hard time about getting all my money back for the Whirlpool since it's less than 30 days since the purchase. I guess I should consider myself lucky it malfunctioned almost immediately. Total out of pocket on the initial Whirlpool install: $560. Total out of pocket with reinstall of BW Electric: $1000. My time spent on this mess: priceless. At least we will have hot water, even though it will cost more per month in electricity to do it. Thanks Whirlpool - stay classy.

Bought a Rheem Marathon 105 gallon water heater with the polyurethane tank. Was suppose to last forever. Tank started leaking so I called Rheem for warranty on the tank. Nothing but nothing is what I got... If you have a choice buy an expensive water heater. Leave this line out of the equation. The company WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY.

Bought the hot water heater, installed it. It leaked from bottom. Whirlpool warranties it. Replace it with new heater. It too leaks. I Google problems with Whirlpool hot water heaters. Found over 1500 complaints.

I bought a whirlpool 40g gas heater with the Honeywell gas valve. In 5 years I've had to replace the valve two times. Thankfully the valve was under warranty both times. Our old water heater was Twentynine years old before it started to leak, this new electrical diagnostic high tech gas valve keeps breaking showing a overheated error and the only way to fix it is a new valve that only Honeywell sells that's well over 100$. Talk about a scam!!

I love this water heater. I installed it myself. I have experience in plumbing, so I decided to save money by installing it myself. The install was what I expected since I have installed these before. This water heater is very quite, so I was surprised to hear about all of the people saying it is too loud. It is very quiet. You can barely hear it if you are next to it. In fact, I thought there was something wrong with it since it was so quiet. I highly recommend this water heater, you will save money and space.
