Product Reviews:

We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane XR17 5 ton unit; in the process also changing the condenser, coils & furnace with Trane units. Our old unit was beginning to show its age with frequent breakdowns (but no compressor failure yet) so we decided to go with a installer recommended system. The units were installed by AC Advance of Houston, on February 3rd, 2018 - during winter. Total bill $8400. With the coming of summer in Houston, the air conditioner was switched on - and the ac compressor failed after just 1 week of usage, on 1st April 2018! Not quite what would be expected from a 'premium' brand like Trane.Right now we are stuck in a limbo. I have requested that the ac be replaced by a new unit - since I consider that the unit was new enough when it failed that I should get a new one. The installer is willing to pick it up and install for free - if we can get one. The local distributor for Trane - Hunton Distribution - has shrugged it off by saying that at best we can get a compressor replacement. I have reached out to Trane's warranty replacement - and they are 'doing due diligence' and 'thorough review' of our 'request'. Meanwhile we are sweltering in the Houston heat and humidity while we wait for them to decide on our 'request'. I will update once I hear back from Trane.

I have never experienced more issues with HVAC units in my life than with Trane. We purchased #2 4 ton H/P Condensers and V/S air handlers and 1 #2 ton condenser and a 2 ton air handler, all with media cabinets, retrofit to “existing electrical, freon lines and replaced as much ductwork as possible”. Paid over $37k in 7/2016. Since then, we have had mold from moisture leaks, condensers just “stop running”, now a “4 ton air handler” has an evaporator coil refrigerant leak!!! What??? I was under the impression that Trane is known for aluminum coils and they last for YEARS!!! Why is this costing me $1500??? I just paid over $800 less than 3 months ago for ductwork and Armour Flex due to leaks. Is this a faulty install job or a thin coil that Trane needs to cover the labor costs and refrigerant? Ridiculous.

My husband and I purchased a Trane air conditioner and furnace in 2009. Both came with 10 year warranties on parts. Since we have had both units, each has broken every 2-3 years. The air conditioner broke in June of 2012 on a 90 degree day. The furnace broke in November 2015 on a very cold Michigan winter. June 2017 rolls around more problems with the air conditioner. We are feeling a sense of complacency and BOOM, summer of 2019 and the air conditioner fails us on another 90 degree day. We consult their website and Trane sends their MOST incompetent technician. Moral to the story: Do not buy anything from Trane!

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. It's obviously "Hard To START A Trane".

I loved the Whirlpool Refrigerator! Nice size and always worked well. Had to replace it after condenser quit working. This current fridge is unhandy in many ways. No light in the freezer and size is too small. Had to fit into existing space, but does not have as much storage space as the KitchenAid that fit in the same space.

I've been told, time and again, that HVAC units can last and should last to at least 10 years, but have the capacity to last up to 15yrs. Why is it, then, that NO Carrier HVAC unit we've had installed by local business Central Air, in Texarkana,Tx, had lasted more than 10yrs? The most recent unit was purchased, new, in 2013. Whereas I never see any neighbors have HVAC companies coming to do maintenance checks on their units, and this household has always paid to have them done... what is the deal with ours not lasting as long!! I use my HVAC very frugally, doing my best to keept the temp set at 78 in the Texas summer months, and also heater wise, I keep my home CHILLY in winter. I layer up my clothes no matter if I'm dressed, or if I'm in my pajamas! I layer my nightgowns wearing two of them at a time, and oft times wear my robe, and perhaps even throw on one of my athletic style jackets over it!So... I mentioned my CARRIER brand HVAC --not-- lasting?? Last year--July 2019... the compressor in my Carrier blew out!! What in tarnation! I do learn that it's covered by warranty, but that does NOT mean that the additional parts required, nor the labor required, nor the refrigerant which was lost= NONE of those... ABSOLUTELY NONE of those things were covered. What in the heck---is CARRIER in cahoots with its dealer??? I was still out over $600usd per having to have the compressor replaced!! And good grief, it would have been astronomical to have had to pay for a new compressor too!! I suspect that Carrier must think, oh goodness the customer will be so relieved that we covered the cost of the new compressor, that they'll simply not be aggrieved by the output of cash still necessitated by the situation!! I am still upset to this point in time, to have had to pay for more refrigerant!! To have had to pay for the labor. To have had to pay for the extra parts ruined by the compressor blowing!! Does CARRIER --NOT use quality compressors! All I can figure is that they rely on planned obsolescence to survive! But they forget, once BITTEN, TWICE SHY!!! My future will be cooled by another brand!! I am looking into Trane, and others!! CARRIER can NOT be relied upon, per my experience, and-----per my estimation. I recently did an engine search on the Carrier brand and is stated in black and white that Carrier IS essentially UNRELIABLE! Oh, and to add the CHERRY on TOP of the HVAC SUNDAE... my capacitor broke in May of 2020!! I pitched a fit, and it wound up that the HVAC tech got permission to replace my capacitor at no cost, free of charge, to me. Darn tootin! That action, and gesture, though appreciated is no salve for the financial wound caused me, by Carrier's choice of compressors they place into their units! Does CARRIER NOT comprehend that $6000USD for a HVAC UNIT is expensive enough? CAN they NOT take things A step further by building QUALITY PRODUCTS! They are perpetrating an epic fail by resting on the laurels of their good name! I donn't mind being vocal, via social media, as NECESSITATED/REQUIRED/NEEDED!! I'd already expressed some displeasure via a public cheers and jeers group on Facebook, but really-- I bit my tongue, because much mreo can be said!! Listen up CARRIER!! I'LL be RIDING the TRANE TRAIN, the NEXT TIME I need a NEW HVAC SYSTEM!!

Bought our Carrier Infinity unit and had it installed in 2009. We were told it was the 'Cadillac of HVAC systems'. Last year one of our thermostats failed which cost $500 to repair, just a few months outside of the warranty. Now, we're in the middle of August in 100 degree heat and the entire unit failed completely. We need to replace a compressor, a relay, 2 capacitors and get refrigerant recovery. Total cost: $3,750. Meanwhile our house is sweltering. Despite my frustration, I politely called customer service for advice and the 'advanced service' agent was rude. 'There's nothing we can do, you're outside of warranty, sorry.' Buyer beware. My advice - if you're buying an AC unit, look into warranty and try to get more than five years.

We've been pleased with our Goodman heat and air units, at 16 years old both air and heat run efficiently. We have maintained them by having a professional come in, replace any parts needed, tweak the units. We keep the filters changed about 4 times a year. Before we turn on the A/C we clean the outside unit of any debris, our HVAC tech also cleans it. Overall we are pleased.

We own a 5 year old Trane HVAC system that came with a 10 year warranty. It just required a $1400 repair which the repair technician indicated was a design flaw/manufacturer defect. I created a case with Trane requesting reimbursement and their response was a quite dismissive form letter denying any responsibility for their faulty system. Check out their Facebook page before purchasing a Trane product. It's FULL of similar complaints from other disgruntled consumers. I intend to file more formal complaints.

I had a HVAC company to install a brand new heat pump. But Trane indoor coil is easy to leak. My indoor coil lasts only 8 years. As I did not register my heat pump, Trane refused any warranty for its faulty product.
