Product Reviews:

Two water heaters three yrs old that went kaput. Thankfully, they are under warranty. However, the tech that I called out said that his company doesn't work on Whirlpool because they are junky and they try to blame the tech if something doesn't work. I called to get new part, and of course now, I get to pay for labor. The lady on the phone actually suggested that I hire an electrician and replace a breaker instead of receiving parts for Whirlpool. Unbelievable. Needless to say, I echo all of the same concerns as the other posts. I'm done with Whirlpool.

Anyone viewing this before purchase please reconsider. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I am just an average Joe that is trying to help save you from these people. The product is not inexpensive, it is cheap. My water heater did not last 3hrs before flooding my basement. Rheem has put me on hold for over 3hrs so far, hung up on more times than I can count. Mike the supervisor number ** is condescending and inept, probably by design. Run scared from this predatory retailer.

12/16/19 paid 2600.00 for Rheem water heater - now 1/2/20 and we still have no hot water. Rheem was to send replacement part on 12/19/19 - we didn’t receive until 12/31/19. That part installed and still not working. Now Rheem sending another replacement part. Rheem will NOT replace this brand new unit as long as they can keep sending replacement parts!! This is not acceptable but they do not care how long we have been without hot water!

Our water heater pilot light has started to randomly shut off leaving us with cold water to shower in on numerous occasions. We hired a local appliance company that we are familiar with to come out and look at it. The tech thought that replacing a part would fix it. It didn't (which I will take up with them). After doing what Whirlpool asked us to do it still is not working. I called them back to warranty the tank and the rep keeps repeating "it is a limited warranty" so basically I have to pay the service call and labor charges to look at, repair or replace which is going to cost nearly as much as it will to just buy a new one.

Water heater heating element went out after six months. Rheem service department had no interest in helping or paying for repair after I had it fixed. They were rude, unresponsive, and unproductive. I will never use their products again.

The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water heater has no way to prevent a toddler or incidental contact from adjusting the dial. This is a huge red flag for me where it can easily be turned to the max temperature and can lead to burns. I called Rheem to see if they have a cover or anything that can limit access to the controls and was told that this is not a safety concern or a manufacturer defect and there is nothing that they will do to resolve the concern. I assume it is my 18 month old daughter that is playing with the dial, turning it to the maximum temperature setting, but it could as easily be changed by something inadvertently rubbing on the dial. My home was built in the 70's and the water heater is located in the laundry room, not in a dedicated closet, so it does have more open access than newer homes with dedicated utility closets. Regardless, this is currently a significant safety concern for me and my wife.

We bought our water heater a bit over a year ago. Since then we encountered two pilot assembly repairs and today the water heater started leaking. I will definitely want to pay more in the future and will never ever buy Rheem product again! Shame on this crap of a company!!!!

Whirlpool Water Heater Purchased at Lowes - Like all the others I see on here. I Purchased a Whirlpool water heater at Lowes Model# BFG1H4040T3NOV. Pilot will not stay lit; customer service tells me to replace the thermocouple which did not solve my problem. This is the second time in 2 years same problem. First time it was fixed under warranty but now since it was replaced once it is not eligible for replacement so I now must decide if I want to pay someone to figure out the problem and I must pay to repair it or what I am starting to think is that I will likely junk it and buy a quality unit and be done with the games and run around and just have hot water, which is all I really want. I will never buy another Whirlpool product in my life and will encourage everyone I know to do the same.

I dunno how to do this shout-out. Some 11 years ago, I bought a top-of-the-line Maytag gas water heater at Home Depot Pro. Fast forward to the recent past. It started leaking! I buy the best possible water heater, and it leaks and generally dies on us. We went to Lowe's, shopping for another water heater. The guy there told me to call and see if I might be able to get some sort of warranty help. Well, it took a while, the better part of an afternoon. But I got the right person on the line, and presto! I now have at zero cost to me a brand-new, top-of-the-line Whirlpool water heater. Lowe's was the place I was sent to. I was firmly instructed that I must bring the old one, as they wanted to pull it apart and see how it failed to ensure that gets fixed.Between the Maytag / Whirlpool confusing me, the Home Depot / Lowe's confusing me, and so on, it was a bit of a wild ride. But still, there really is such a thing as customer service. There are makers, which are genuinely interested in providing quality products and truly standing behind them. That new unit would have been $707.09. It wasn't fun, but it could have been far more painful. I believe the maker of both of these water heaters is American Water Heater.

If I could rate the service of this company less than one star I would. This is the biggest crook of poo that I have EVER witnessed. We purchased our new hot water tank from Sears in Nov of 12 and have had nothing but issues since. The first one happened in Oct of 14 and every couple months since we've had something happen. Not every time do we call to talk to the warranty company because when we call in Oct of 15 (with another issue of it not staying lit) they gave us a 'how to light' manual and said, "When it goes out, try these things then call if there are still issues". So anyway, every couple months we call and they tell us to take something apart and clean it then relight and we're good for a little bit but then the same stuff happens again. The last issue that occurred on 5.12.16. This is the one that has cost us the most. This time, we paid the contractor they send $169 to tell us they couldn't fix it and that we would be a WEEK without hot water. A WEEK, there is a 8-year-old boy living at my house and I would go a week as a 75-year-old women without hot water. This is ridiculous! As many times as we have had issues and yet again they are coming out to fix the same stuff that has been fixed before, we still are not permitted a new hot water tank. This is the worst warranty I've ever experienced in my life and I've seen some shady stuff. I will NEVER purchase another Whirlpool, especially if I know American Water Heater Company is attached in any way.
