Whirlpool Refrigerator Repairs

If you're looking for help fixing your Whirlpool Refrigerator, look no further! Our comprehensive Whirlpool Refrigerator repair guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and maybe show you how to repair your appliance.

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Whirlpool manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Whirlpool appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Whirlpool Refrigerator not cooling.
Condenser Fan Motor. The condenser fan motor draws air though the condenser coils and over the compressor. If the condenser fan motor is not working properly, the refrigerator won’t cool properly. To determine if the fan motor is defective, first check the fan blade for obstructions. Next, try turning the fan motor blade by hand. If the blade does not spin freely, replace the condenser fan motor. If no obstructions are present and the fan blade spins freely, use a multi meter to test the fan motor for continuity. If the condenser fan motor does not have continuity, replace it.

Whirlpool water dispenser is not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if the water pressure is too low, the water valve will not open. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to test the water inlet valve for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.

Whirlpool ice maker not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to check for power to the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker is Not Dispensing Ice.
Dispenser Control Board. The dispenser control board governs most of the functions of the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the control board is more likely to be at fault.

Whirlpool Refrigerator not defrosting.
Defrost Control Board. The defrost control board determines how often to run the defrost cycle. If the board fails, the refrigerator will not go into the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board, first test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly, the defrost control board is likely defective.

Whirlpool Refrigerator is noisy or loud.
Fan Blade. If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.

Whirlpool Refrigerator defrost drain clogged.
Drain Heater. Some refrigerators are equipped with drain heaters. Drain heaters prevent the water in the drain pan from re-freezing and clogging the defrost drain. If your drain heater is defective or is not in the proper position, the defrost drain might freeze over.

Whirlpool Refrigerator is not Cooling, but the Freezer is Working.
Evaporator Fan Motor. The evaporator fan motor draws cold air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan is not working, the freezer or refrigerator will not cool adequately. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multi meter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor.

Whirlpool Refrigerator is Leaking Water.
Water Filter Head. The water filter head might be cracked, or the seal may be torn or missing. Inspect the water filter housing for cracks. If you discover any cracks in the water filter housing, replace it.

Whirlpool Refrigerator freezing food.
Temperature Control Thermostat. The temperature control thermostat directs voltage to the compressor, evaporator fan motor, and condenser fan motor (if applicable). If the temperature control thermostat is not working properly, it may cause the refrigerant system to run longer than necessary. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cold. To determine if the thermostat is defective, rotate the thermostat from the lowest setting to the highest setting and listen for a click. If the thermostat clicks, it is not likely defective. If the thermostat does not click, use a multi meter to test the thermostat for continuity. If the temperature control thermostat does not have continuity at any setting, replace it.

Whirlpool Refrigerator ice maker overflowing.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully once the power is shut off. As a result, the valve will leak water into the ice maker and cause the ice maker to overflow. Check the water pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, the water inlet valve is likely defective. The valve may not shut off all the way or may be stuck open, causing water to leak through the valve. If the water pressure is sufficient, but the ice maker is still overflowing, replace the water inlet valve.

Whirlpool Refrigerator light not working.
Light Bulb. The light bulb might be out. Replace the light bulb before replacing any of the other parts associated with the light bulb.

Whirlpool Refrigerator runs constantly.
Door Gasket. If the Refrigerator runs constantly the door gasket may be torn or defective, or if the door is not shutting tightly warm air can enter the the refrigerator and cause the evaporator coils to ice over. This happens because humid air from the room is drawn into the refrigerator through the opening at the gasket. As the humidity comes in contact with the cold evaporator coils it condenses and freezes. Normally the defrost system removes this frost and ice. However, if the door gasket is defective the evaporator coils ice over too quickly and the defrost cycle cannot keep up.

We purchased a stainless steel refrigerator thinking Whirlpool stood behind their product. Within days, the shelving on the door and meat bins and vegetable bins literally started chipping away and cracking. I have over a thousand dollars product held together by glue and duct tape so I can use my refrigerator. Neither Lowes or Whirlpool wanted to back their product. But it seemed they wanted to make a sale only on replacement parts... Now today I have learned my ice maker drum has chipped away... Thankful no one swallowed the plastic. We will never buy Whirlpool or recommend to our friends again.

We bought the Gold Series Whirlpool fridge (Model WRF990SLAM00) in December
We bought the Gold Series Whirlpool fridge (Model WRF990SLAM00) in December 2013. A few months after its first repair, (dripping on the top left inside of the fridge), which happened within the first year and was covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, it started to make an incredibly loud whirring sound that kept us up at night. Our bedroom is upstairs and far away from our kitchen, and I had to sleep with earplugs to not hear the noise. We tested the noise on a decibel app and it came in between 66-70. A normal fridge noise level should be around 52 decibels. We had a repairman come out and he replaced a fan even though he told me it wasnt going to fix the problem. Wait, what? After he replaced the fan and the whir continued, we called Lowes extended warranty again, and they sent out a different company: 1-800-Appliance.The second guy replaced two kits and found some issue with the ice maker, which we were not even aware of, but the noise remained, and he then had the gall to say it was a normal noise. If it was normal, wouldnt it have been making that noise the first year we had it? We had 1-800-Appliance come out again and he determined he couldnt fix it, so Lowes sent another guy from the same company, and he replaced the same fan that the first guy replaced, which was clearly not the problem. Three perfectly good fans were wasted. BTW, the repairman who said the noise was normal told us that the fridge had a part that was made to be replaced after purchase because if Whirlpool had the part at the point of sale, the fridge would not meet the Energy Star standards. Hello, lawsuit! After three repairs for the same problem and five visits that did not fix the problem, we were told Lowes would issue us a return order in three days. Finally! Not so fast... one week later, no one called, so I called them and then Lowes denied having told us that! We gave them the name of the person who told us they would take the fridge back, but the woman on the other end said she had no record of that (how convenient) and, despite the California lemon law requiring only three attempts at a repair, they would require yet another attempt by one of their repairmen. She told me that if he determined the noise was abnormally loud and not repairable, then she could contact the manufacturer and go from there. So they sent a guy from the first company out and he wrote down that the fridge was not repairable and was very noisy. He said that should take the fridge back at that point. My husband called Lowes several days later after not being contacted by them and they told him that they need to send a different repairman out from 1-800-Appliance and that only 1-800-Appliance could determine if we could get a refund. If that was true, then why send the other company out? By the way, the second guy sent out by 1-800-Appliance wrote down that the noise was very loud and wasnt fixed by his repair. But the notes Lowes said they received from him didnt say that at all. They told me that he wrote that the noise level was normal. I am starting to think there is collusion between Lowes and 1-800-Appliance. Something very wrong here. So, six visits later and horrible customer service from both Lowes and 1-800-appliance, we are now being told that the repairs need to be 30 days apart from each other before they will issue a return. If the cause of the noise was never actually repaired, then why do we have to wait a month between repairs? We continue to jump through the hoops that Lowes keeps throwing our way, but it is now clear that they have no intention of taking the fridge back. The fridge is less than two years old, and we have the extended warranty. We couldnt take the noise any further because it felt like it was causing hearing loss and after several months of that horrible sound we were both on edge, so we bought an amazingly quiet fridge from Pacific Sales, and they assured us that they would not do to us what Lowes did. Pacific Sales pride themselves with having good customer service. Lowes seems to have taken delight in lying to us, selling us a lemon, and then not righting a wrong. We have moved the loud piece of ** into our garage, and if Lowes continues to change the rules of a return and act in collusion with 1-800-appliance, probably in hopes that we will simply throw in the towel, then at least we dont have to hear that horrible sound in the meantime. If they dont do the right thing and take back the fridge, then we will simply keep calling out a repairman to fix the problem. We have three more years of our warranty, and if Lowes doesnt do the right thing, we will make them pay for this one way or another. Viva la revolucion!!

We bought a Whirlpool Refrigerator - Model ES5FHAXS in 2006. Right off the bat, a line in the back of the refrigerator was leaking. We paid for the repair. Next after just one year, the refrigerator would be warm and the freezer part ran super cold. The settings did not work. After much haggling with Whirlpool, they paid for someone to come out and repair it. It worked for several weeks then the same problem came back again. We argued with Whirlpool again and someone from AES or AAA came out. The problem was fixed but once again came back again after a couple months. We called Whirlpool again. This time was much haggling and arguing but got them to come out a third time. Once again, the problem was fixed but came back again after several months. The repair company stated that if they found it was something other than what they fixed, we would be charged. I said either it was not fixed right or the refrigerator is a total lemon. I said you will probably just say it is something else to cover your costs. Whirlpool acted like they did enough, even though 3 repairs could not get it right. If we paid or each repair ourselves, it would have been nearly the cost of the refrigerator and it still would not have worked. We bought a refrigerator back in 1992 and never had any problems after 16 years when we moved. The refrigerator was not cheap but could not do what refrigerators are supposed to do - keep things cold all the time. What a disappointment.

November 4, 2017 we purchased a 2018 Tiffin RV with a Whirlpool 3-door refrigerator/freezer. We did not use the RV refrigerator until our first trip to Florida January 2018. Immediate problems with the freezer icing up on freezer door and icing up in the top 2 shelves of refrigerator. Milk, fruit, even cheese froze in the top of the refrigerator. Bottom freezer door froze so bad I had to yank on the drawer very hard to even get it open & chunks of ice would fall off the door on the floor outside once it opened. Called Whirlpool warranty service phone number two times 2/16/2018. I wont go into all the details but we were on hold for a 90 minutes and were transferred 7 times by the automated system. Talked to one person, Lindsey, who immediately transferred me again to RV Dept. No one ever answered. System kept saying, Please wait. Then just disconnected and another recording came on saying to call back. We did not after this fiasco! February 19, 2018 we called Tiffin MH & told them about the NO CUSTOMER SERVICE from Whirlpool. They told us to call Sears in Sebring, FL. We did. If we wanted Whirlpool service to bring the motorhome to them & the warranty only covered parts NOT labor or service calls. They did not want to work on it. March 13, 2018 We went to Tiffin MH Service in Red Bay, AL. Earl called Whirlpool tech, Steve, & tried to explain the problem. Steve told him he did not talk on speaker phone & told him very hatefully to put him on the private line. Steve just very angrily insisting that Earl had him on speaker phone. I do not understand Whirlpools Steve issue with being on speaker phone? Finally Earl got him to listen to our refrigerator problems as he stood there at the refrigerator going through each issue step-by-step. Steve said to put silicon in the seal & that Whirlpool WOULD NOT replace a 3 month old refrigerator that actually had only been used 2 months. We found out later Tiffin is going to replace the refrigerator.

I bought this Whirlpool french door, bottom freezer refrigerator for $2100. In 10 years I have replaced the compressor three (3) times. Bad design and a real piece of crap! I was told by Sears that all Bottom freezer Whirlpool refrigerators are made by Amana. That is why I bought the frig. Ive had wonderful experiences with Whirlpool and Amana product in the past, but this time their design is so flawed.

I purchased a refrigerator Model# WRF736SDAW12 on 8/9/14 and from day two, Ive had nothing but problems with the ice maker. We NEVER use crushed ice, but we get a lot of crushed along with cubed and crushed/shards of ice all over my fridge, hands and floor. My daughter (wearing her heels) already slipped and fell while walking past the fridge, not realizing that there was ice lying on the floor because my floor is light/multicolored, so we cant see the ice. After several calls, the repair person replaced all the components of the ice maker and the repair person was told (2/26/15) from the Whirlpool tech that we would just have to live with the problem because its normal and he was advised to tell me to get a larger glass. The repair person looked at my glass, seeing that it was already large, shook his head and said Whirlpool must want me to start using a bowl to catch all the ice. I couldnt believe it?! I bought this fridge expecting to receive ONLY cubed ice and yet I dont, so Im sure why they put that cubed feature on there when I cant utilize it. I only want a little ice, but the first thing that comes out is the crushed ice, and in order for me to receive more cubed ice, I have to fill up the entire cup that includes the crushed/shards of ice which floats to the top and ends up in my mouth. Thats the purpose of me selecting cubed, so I dont have to drink it!After the repair man left, I called customer service (2/26/15) and she told me that ice gets stuck in the chute?, so thats why I get crushed ice, but its normal she says. How is that normal? Please read all the reviews/complaints from both the Whirlpools and on Home Depots website for this model and you’ll see this is a problem, there is a flaw in the design.I cant believe a big company such as Whirlpool would treat me so poorly and brush me off like this. After the many posts I put on their Facebook page, they over and over say they will be in contact with me. I have yet to hear from them. I found another story on Pissed Consumer where a senior fell due to the ice falling all over the floor, so its not just me that it has happened to. Theyre putting people in a hazardous situation and they dont care.I have an autistic son who gets ice constantly, I can’t supervise his every move and I’m not able to keep up with his dropped ice nor can he remember to look down for it. I’m concerned that next time my daughter falls; she won’t be so lucky and could sprain or break something. How about my visitors? Do I worry about them suing me when they fall? I’m not so annoyed at the fact that I step on water with my dry socks or the 24/7 noise from the motor or the left door not shutting all the way than I am with the safety of my family.

We are now over a month without a working fridge/freezer because of the lack of Whirlpool care. Our brand new Whirlpool fridge stopped working after 3 days. That was nearly a month ago. I have wasted hours on the phone with rude reps from both Home Depot and Whirlpool. A new one with multiple dents was attempted to be delivered today which I wouldnt sign for knowing Id be stuck with it. Now we have to wait 2 weeks for another one. A $100 compensation doesnt nearly cover our food loss let alone a family of 4 living without a functioning fridge and freezer. I will never purchase Whirlpool again!

I purchased a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator and it was delivered on 1/22/22. We had it five weeks working fine then on 2/27/22 it stopped working. Whirlpool service came out and said it was the compressor but all parts are on backorder and no telling when they will be in. Maybe Lowes would replace it, but no because it is longer than 30 days. Lowes when I bought the fridge had over 400 of the same refrigerator in stock so why is it they couldnt had replaced it. Or if Whirlpool sells items on their own why didnt they just replace it. We have been going on 3 weeks without a fridge. With all of this said it didnt even last the 7 years they say they last for now. That is ridiculous when the last one lasted 20 years. In 7 years I will be on a fixed income how am I suppose to keep living. Something is wrong here.

I bought a frost-free deep freezer 2 years ago from a box store. Within 1 year it went out and I lost approximately $1000 worth of food. Called the box store and they called A&E. Bought the extended warranty. A year later the deep freezer went out again. Lost another $1000 worth of food. Im scared to death to use my Whirlpool deep freezer again. Am I going to lose $1000 worth of food each year? No satisfaction with Whirlpool whatsoever for this piece of junk. And the problems were manufacturer defects. In fact, one of the parts had a recall on it and we were never notified. I dont know about anyone else, but I cant afford to just throw away $1000 worth of food every year. Ive bought my last Whirlpool appliance now. I wish I had read these reviews. It would have made a difference to me.

I purchased a Whirlpool French Door refrigerator (G16FDRXXY07) from h.h.gregg appliances and electronics in Columbia, South Carolina, on August 3, 2012. It was delivered and installed on August 11, 2012. It functioned well for three weeks, and then temperature of refrigerator dropped to 25F. Vegetables and eggs got frozen. I made a service call to Sloan Appliance Service as soon as I was aware of the problem. In the 3rd visit, the thermometer was replaced after troubleshooting. After replacing the thermometer, the temperature of the whole refrigerator got higher than it was supposed to be. Refrigerator got around 53F, and freezer got 34F. All foods in the refrigerator got spoiled. In the past six weeks, the company sent technicians to my house to check the problem, and they tried to fix this refrigerator for 5 times. The situation got worse and worse. I have not had a functional refrigerator for 6 weeks. A technician came with a compressor on 10/22/2012 to see if replacing it could fix the problem. When he cut the copper pipe, he found that refrigerant was leaked out. There is no refrigerant at all. He refilled refrigerant without changing compressor. Because he thought the leak was slow, it should be caused by the evaporator. He thought it should work and last long enough when a technician comes back with evaporator replacement. It turned out what the technician thought was wrong. The temperature of both refrigerator and freezer did not drop to normal, 53F/34F. The problem persists. I called Whirlpool customer support line several times. The response I got was that Whirlpool would not replace for having manufactured a faulty appliance during manufacture warranty. They can only keep sending technician onsite to check and repair. For 6 weeks and 5 times onsite visits/repairs, this newly purchased refrigerator still does not function.

We purchased a $3000 WRF990SLAM00 / K22019120 refrigerator in 2013. Within the first two and a half years we have already put over $700 in repairs. We were told today the coolant for the ice maker has a leak (either a slow leak or a fast leak, they arent sure). But from here on out we will have to put coolant in it to keep the ice maker working. A week ago we spent another $300 to repair the water dispenser. This is the worst fridge we have ever owned. Whirlpool could care less and we are basically out right at $4,000! DONT BUY WHIRLPOOL.

We bought this Gold series refrigerator in 2013.. Less than a year we started having problems with rust on doors. It was so embarrassing people could see this. After that it was like one part after another, the motherboard, the ice on fridge, the ice maker. They changed the same part several times. Now April 2015 they say vapor cooling is not good and they have to put coolant and replace another kit.. Now we have to wait 1 week for that part. Meanwhile our food is going to go bad. Ive been calling for years about this lemon of a fridge. And the last time I spoke to somebody they say buy another fridge while youre waiting on the part to come out. Wow. This is literally driving my family insane.. I cant believe they just expect us to let this happen.. We paid about 2,500 for this lemon of a fridge.. I see so many complaints and youre telling me Whirlpool can get away with this.

Whirlpool Gold Series French door, bottom freezer. - This fridge is beautiful. Thats as far as the pros go for it. The Freon is leaking and cant be repaired because of where the leak is coming from. I can always tell when its time for a recharge because it leaks water profusely when at a low charge (every 4 to 6 weeks). We paid over $1800 for this fridge back in 2013. It has been just over two years and we are now having to replace this fridge. I cant express my frustration at this point. Whirlpool wont do anything to help us. They told me, You are out of warranty, and thats all they have to say. Thats over a thousand dollars a year to own this POS when you consider taxes. Over $1250 a year when you consider the service calls along with it. I will not purchase another Whirlpool product ever again. I am disgusted by this company and their refusal to stand behind their product. They have literally stole money from me and are laughing about it. Do yourself a favor and stay far from Whirlpool.

Purchased WRF989SDAM00 French Door refrigerator in 2013, and 33 months late
Purchased WRF989SDAM00 French Door refrigerator in 2013, and 33 months later it is not cooling (fridge 45/freezer 36 degrees). Service call diagnosis is a leak in the sealed component area. Since it out of the 1 year warranty period, nothing is covered. This is the first of Whirlpools dual evaporator models, and is technically challenging according to the service technician. Most likely one or both evaporators are defective, and this type of failure comes with a recommendation to change out the compressor as well as it is moisture compromised. As my previous Kitchen Aids had 10 year sealed component warranties, and the Whirlpool is the same base mechanism as the Kitchen Aid, I contacted Whirlpool to see if they would extend my warranty coverage to these sealed components. Website submission - never got an answer. Called the customer service line - they politely told me they were sorry but there is nothing they can offer me. Even the extended service plan would not cover me as this refrigerator has a preexisting problem and it must be 100% operational to begin an extended service contract.Im extremely disappointed in this fridge only lasting 33 months, in comparison to my previous Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Of course the internet just allows me to see that Im not alone is purchasing a short lived appliance. So here is my contribution to the internet of things: Do not purchase Whirlpool refrigerators expecting them to last much beyond the warranty period. Buyer beware.

Bought this fridge at Best Buy because it was beautiful and thought it would go perfect in my new home. We allowed the fridge to regulate for 72 hours (even though it only needs 24) and it didnt cool properly or make ice. 3 calls later to the 800 number (along with three scheduled repair visits) and Im getting the run-around. 1st excuse was that I needed to order parts. 2nd excuse was that it was a bad sensor due to the manufacturer. The 3rd excuse was that the fridge door wasnt aligned properly, thus not sealing properly and not allowing the fridge to regulate, which causes it to freeze over. My ice maker also hasnt worked once in this entire ordeal. The issue still isnt resolved and I am vowing to never spend thousands of dollars on this brand again. Spare yourself the headache and go with a less glitzy, more trusted brand.

The fridge had died - Im guessing not long after I had gone away by the look and smell of the food and house. I have had nothing but the run around ever since that day. Spoke to this person and then that person. The electrician confirmed that my fridge is completely dead because of the compressor. So they sent a report to Whirlpool and they have now confirmed that I will get a new fridge. Now Im being told that will take 7-14 days. So I have been left with no food whatsoever as well as no fridge. I have two kids and cant even buy shopping for my son to take to school. And now Im being told that I had 9 months left on the warranty for the fridge that died and that’s all I will get on a new fridge. Should I not receive a new warranty for a new fridge? And should they replace my food? Could really do with some feedback on this matter. Please help me.

Our Whirlpool refrigerator has been an extraordinary kitchen appliance, it may even be 28 years old. The ice maker worked until just four years ago and thats amazing. Its never been serviced and never needed a repair. I dont know what one can say about something thats worked so flawlessly. This seems a little bit trivial when considering the cost of a new appliance, but the plastic veneer on the handle had fallen off and needed glued back on, but thats about it as far as maintenance and repairs go. Overall its been an ideal purchase and I wish wholeheartedly all my purchases were as good as our whirlpool refrigerator.

I got a BRAND NEW Whirlpool from Habitat for Humanity. I registered it as a new product and was told it came from Lowes. Habitat only warranted it for 30 days but when it went out in 60 days, I called on the warranty. They sent out a repairman who said it was unfixable and after 2 weeks waiting to hear from them, Whirlpool said they would not honor the warranty because the serviceman said it had been dropped. I am a disabled senior citizen, I guarantee you I couldnt lift it long enough to drop it. Habitat said they didnt drop it and so did Lowes. Meanwhile, Whirlpool had the nerve to send me an extended warranty for the same refrigerator that they wouldnt honor the original warranty and they treated me like I was just trying to cheat them or something. The only thing I can do now is put it out in my driveway with a big sign on it to warn others NOT to buy Whirlpool products. Big deal.

Updated on 03/15/2020: We bought this eight years ago to replace a 20-year-old Maytag that had finally developed a rust-related leak after serving us faithfully and needing only one almost trivial repair ($10 DIY lid switch replacement) over that period. I have replaced the water pump, the gear case, rotating seal (3 times), the lid switch striker (3 times), and the replacement gear case is making noises indicating incipient bearing failure. In its finite wisdom, Whirlpool decided to make the failure-prone main bearing irreplaceable, which means you have to replace the entire gear case, at a best-case cost of $120 and a worst-case cost of $300, plus labor, unless you do the work yourself, as I do. The secondary issue is mold and a musty odor. The most effective way to eliminate this is to pull the drum (non-trivial, requires a car jack, a 2x4, and a special spanner/wrench) and swab down the inside of the tub with disinfectant. (Been there ... done that three times over 8 years.)Original Review: I am in the process of replacing the bottom seal on my 6-year-old Whirlpool Cabrio (WTW5500XW2) washer. This will be the fourth major repair I have done on it. Fortunately, I can do the work myself and know how to find the best price on parts, but it is still discouraging that a lightly-used washer would have so many problems in such as short time. (It replaced a 20-year-old Maytag that finally rusted out.) Repairs to date: 1) replaced drain pump motor; 2) replaced lid switch; 3) removed basket twice to clean outer tub, due to mold and odors; 4) replaced suspension rods due to excessive spin vibration; 5) out of commission awaiting a new bottom seal. Total cost of parts (labor was on me) is well over $100.

We got our Whirlpool french door refrigerator with freezer on the bottom (Model: GX5FHDXVY04) in June 2010. In the past six months, the refrigerator portion loses cooling and temperatures go to the 60s or 70s. We found out that by turning the unit off until it defrosts, it will work again for awhile. Weve had water overflow on our wood floor. When this happened the third time, I called Whirlpool to send a repair person. The person I talked to said it could be over $400 to repair and that it would be more economical to get an extended warranty for about $314, which I did. I did not receive the contract via email (it may have gotten lost in spam). The repair man came and said yes, this was a common problem due to a design flaw and that it needed a $6 part to make the water drain smaller - so that too much air didnt get in.It was May 1st before the repair could return to install it. This was done and we thought - expensive but its taken care of. Today, May 5th, the same problem happened and I have to throw away food again. Its the weekend and there is not a repair person available for two weeks - I got an order number and may request that the repair come sooner. To add insult to injury, I found out that the extended warranty is good only up to $450 and not good for any repair that might be needed in a year. Most of the repair goes to travel to get to Fairfield and labor and we have used most of the warranty already.

In October of 2014 we purchased our beautiful Whirlpool WRF990slam00 refrigerator from Lowes. We were super happy to have this big beautiful piece of equipment in our kitchen. From the start it ran a little loud but we were assured that this was normal. It seemed to function pretty well until 3 days after the one year warranty ran out. First thing, opened fridge door to a waterfall. Ice machine apparently was no longer working and 2 days later the fridge and freezer both stopped working and blowing warm air.Everything in the fridge and freezer had to be thrown out. I started making calls on November 2nd to see if Whirlpool would stand behind their $2,000 product and make good on repairs. It is now December 17th and we are still without a fridge. Not sure right now what is happening and I am afraid to call as I am sick to death of the whole thing. All I want is a fridge that works! Not too much to ask after spending $2,000. I am saving you the gory details as it would take me 10 pages but I have made SEVERAL calls. I hope to have Whirlpool step up and do the right thing but, I am not going to hold my breath.

Bought appliance (Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator Freezer) in 2014. The seal that closes all the brackets with screws and you had to hand guide it to close. Then the freezer got out of alignment and wouldnt close and seal. Ice built up behind drawer which prohibited the opening of freezer drawer. Wouldnt open more than 5 inches on one side and 3 inches on the other. Had service tech out. Cost almost $200. Did not get French doors repaired because the part cost over $125. Less than a year later I have to have a repairman back out for same problem with the freezer door and ice build up. Not happy.

Whirlpool refrigerator Model #GX5FHDXVY010, freezer on bottom. Ice maker broke within six months of purchase. Made loud noises, would not function to freeze ice. Turned waterline off and now use ice trays like the old days. Shortly thereafter, second unrelated problem started. Drain line started backing up and runs into the bottom of the freezer floor where it freezes into a thin sheet of ice, and then runs onto the kitchen floor. Have had the line cleaned out over and over again. Have been buying fridges for 50 yrs. and have never had this problem. Whirlpool says call a repairman and pay to have it fixed, but it happens over and over again. Whirlpool should come up with a permanent fix and pay to have it fixed. Based on the numerous complaints of this problem, this model needs a recall now.

The first time was the freezer was freezing up a lot of ice which they claimed it was the rubber on the bottom door of the freezer was not sealing tight enough. Second time the refrigerator was leaking so much water I was literally drying up water everyday and have towels on the floor to prevent my new floor from damage. Leaking starts again same problem. Completely frustrated now. Going to contact Consumers Affairs to see what further action I can take.

I bought a Whirlpool french door refrigerator, model # ED5LVAXWS about five years ago. I didnt have any problems until last month, on August 25, 2016. The ice dispenser stopped working, and the refrigerator went off. I had to throw out a lot of food. I got a new extended warranty that day, and a serviceman came out the following day, 8/26. It turned out he wasnt a repairman, just someone to diagnosis the problem and order the parts. The part was ordered, and the fridge would be repaired within 5 days, but the part was delayed because of a Hurricane Hermine, which completely understandable. On 9/8 the repairman arrived, but he realized that the original guy who diagnosed the problem was in error. He had ordered a compressor, and what needed to be replaced was the thermostat. As of today, 9/29, the part is still not in -- I was told its on backorder with no ETA. If I didnt have a mini fridge, Id be at a complete loss. I called what I thought was Whirlpool to complain about the part taking so long to arrive, but was told they can do nothing. It turns out that a company called AIG U.S. Warranty Division handles Whirlpools guarantees. I am not a happy camper.

There is a chronic and well-known problem with recent French door, bottom freezer refrigerators sold by Whirlpool, including the the brand names KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag, and Amana. The problem is caused when the defrost drain freezes, preventing defrosted water from reaching the evaporation pan. After enough water builds up, it overflows along the front of the refrigerator. In my particular case, we have wood floors and they were ruined by the water. After doing some investigation on the internet, I have learned that this problem affected approximately 1,500 model numbers sold under these names. These model numbers are listed in a Technical Service Pointer issued by Whirlpool. In August 2013, after experiencing several years of problems with these units, Whirlpool issued a Technical Service Pointer W10632338, advising service technicians that a new P Trap drain tube kit was now available, and suggesting that the defective duck bill check valve should be replaced by this new part. The problem for years had been that the rubber duck bill check valve would, over time, become sticky (or tacky) and would then not open - causing water to build up above it. Eventually, the water would freeze and since newly defrosted water could no longer escape, it would build up and eventually overflow. From what Ive seen online, plus a conversation with the Sears technician who come out to diagnose and repair my leak, I am convinced there are many thousands of customers who have experienced this problem. Because it takes a while for the rubber check valve to become sticky and no longer open, it is not uncommon for the problem to not appear until after the standard one-year warranty has expired. From reports, Whirlpool has sometimes acknowledged the problem and effected repair of refrigerators no longer under warranty. But what about those customers, like me, who have experienced water damage to floors and cabinets? Shouldnt Whirlpool be liable for those repairs, too? Id be interested to know if anyone knows of plans for a class action lawsuit.

I have owned a Whirlpool Gold Series Refrigerator for one year and 9 months. During that time I have had 7 repair issues. Each of the past ones took at least two weeks to repair. This past repair has to be redone because the new parts are also bad. The part is now on factory backorder. It will be at least two months for this to be repaired. Whirlpool says its too bad, we just have to deal with being without a working refrigerator for months. Do not buy this product!!! The warranty only means that you are forced to wait months for repairs. They will not replace, refund, or even extend the warranty for all this downtime. You have no recourse with the company.

(It has been replaced 2 times so far.) This time I have been without my icemaker for 6 weeks. When I called today - they informed me they would contact another repair company, but they could not come out for 1 month. They acted like I was bothering them - when I called again today - I did not buy a new appliance to have it break down every 3 months. They only use A & E Repair and Tri-County Appliances, and they must be so busy fixing other Whirlpool appliances that break down - that you have to wait 4- 6 weeks for a repair. Ridiculous!!

Whirlpool 29 cu ft French Door Refrigerator WRF989SDAM - We purchased this
Whirlpool 29 cu ft French Door Refrigerator WRF989SDAM - We purchased this refrigerator September 2013 for our new home. We moved in November 18, 2013. The refrigerator made a very loud buzzing/humming noise from the beginning and did not make enough ice. The shop we bought it from came on 2 occasions to work on the ice maker and finally totally replaced it. Then the rack on the bottom of the left door fell out and contained glass jars of pickled vegetables. They broke and made a big mess and etched our travertine tile floor. We called the shop and they sent their son out who put the rack in with duct tape which of course did not work so we took it out and put it in the cabinet. We had to pay to have the tile polished to remove the etching. On the weekend of November 15, 2014 the humming noise was so loud that we called the repair person again and they came out on November 17, 2014. At first they thought it was a fan motor but the freezer started making a loud noise and the owner came and said the compressor was going out. Our food was beginning to thaw and we asked if they could at least loan us a refrigerator to use. They brought us an old small fridge which was put in the garage. We took all our food out there. They came November 25 and picked up the fridge to be repaired. We had been told the warranty was out but after calling your company they were told Whirlpool would cover parts and labor. Today is Thanksgiving Day and we can not cook a big meal due to the small fridge and freezer and we are buying bags of ice every day. We have family visiting and must go out for dinner. We have no idea of when our refrigerator will be returned to us. This has been an expensive and disappointing experience. I would never recommend your refrigerator to anyone due to this experience. I really feel we should have been offered a new refrigerator at a discount. We bought all our appliances from Dons Appliances in Okeechobee, FL 34974 and they are all Whirlpool. This refrigerator cost $2299 and our total order was $9,642.84. We would appreciate a response from your company.

Purchased on 9/12 at Home Depot. Ice maker paid for as stated in ad for home depot, did not come with fridge. Tech needed for warm food, had to repair gasket. Tech needed for cracked handle. 6 calls for freezing food in fridge compartment. No resolve. Whirlpool wanted a 2nd opinion and another tech came deeming the fridge unrepairable. Not good enough for Whirlpool. After speaking to several customer service agents, they said they do not refund or replace, only repair. I have lost hundreds of dollars of food from freezing. My fridge is reading at 31 deg. This is way below what it is supposed to read at. No call from Whirlpool since last tech came. Their customer service is terrible and cold. Whirlpool Corp. was not any help either. You can see the problem with this model if you look up Whirlpool fridge freezing food in Florida, as a woman there called ABC news and they reported it. I have owned several refrigerators in the past which were older models and less sophisticated, and all of them lasted well over 10 years with no major issues, so to buy a new refrigerator through Whirlpool and have it malfunction in less than a year is unacceptable. Customers deserves better than this especially at these prices. My malfunction occurred when my ice maker stopped working and the internal temperature stopped working altogether, which caused all my food to spoil which had to replaced which was very expensive which infuriated me more and because my service appointment was a week away. I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator January 2016. 4 months later the refrigerator stopped working. It took over a week for Whirlpool to have it repaired. Two weeks later the refrigerator stopped working again. It took four days for Whirlpool to get a repair man to my house. I called customer service 4x asking for a replacement or loaner or possibly they could expedite the repairs. All they could do was recite my warranty to me stating that they are only responsible for repairs. I was in touch with their executive office and was pretty much told tough patooties - my warranty only covers repair. The executive office told me to wait for a third breakdown and then we could talk about an exchange. WHAT??? I have to suffer a third inconvenience before Whirlpool will do anything??? I lost hundreds of dollars in food, have to live two weeks without refrigeration in 95 degree Florida weather, had to go shopping on a daily basis or eat fast food (at my expense) because I couldnt even keep milk for breakfast cereal. I filed a claim with BBB only to have Whirlpool close the claim stating that they fixed the refrigerator.

After months of careful research and comparison, I finally bought a pricey
After months of careful research and comparison, I finally bought a pricey (over $2K) Whirlpool refrigerator with a bottom freezer and French doors with water dispenser on top. I really did not want any fancy features, just narrow doors because of my small kitchen, and a fridge on top because of my back pain. Since the date of purchase in May, 2014, I have had 4 service calls. The first was covered under warranty, but no cause of the sheet of ice collection and underside water leakage was identified; I did, however, receive a somewhat patronizing lecture on the importance of thorough reading and comprehension of the owners manual, and a statement that most of my service calls are for customer education. A follow-up service call, a few weeks later and also covered under warranty, identified the cause of the ice collection and water leakage: a faulty duck bill little piece of plastic in the drainage system that is a problem well known to Whirlpool. In mid-June of 2015, the ice maker had to be replaced, to the tune of $360.00. Today, I had a service call ($103.00) and received an estimate of $405.50 to replace the broken freezer drawer slides, which prevent the freezer drawer from fully closing. I will be applying that $405.50 to the purchase of the simplest model, non-Whirlpool refrigerator available, and have the Whirlpool hauled away. Besides the problems noted above, the center of the refrigerator freezes the food, while the freezer compartment arbitrarily defrosts. There are alarm icons that go from blue to red to alert you of the need to replace the (expensive) ice and water filter, refrigerator air filter and crisper freshener. Alarm bells ring to inform you that the doors have been open too long, but nothing alerts you to the fact that the freezer door is not completely shut, or that the freezer has gone into defrost mode because someone inadvertently brushed up against the control panel and changed the settings, or that water is pouring freely out from underneath the appliance. I have had to change my buying habits because fridge holds at least 15% less food, even though it is the same cubic footage as my previous (top freezer) one. Freezer contents easily slip down behind the top freezer drawer and jam the door open. I have to take most frozen boxed items out of their original containers and pack them flat in freezer bags to get enough storage. Some tall bottles do not fit anywhere in the refrigerator compartment, and have to get put in sideways. Even in the absence of mechanical problems, using this refrigerator is like packing and unpacking a suitcase many times a day. While Whirlpool customer service personnel were not overtly rude, there were dismissive and condescending overtones in some of the questions and directives I received from them, and another insinuation that service calls would not be covered under warranty if they end up being for the purpose of customer education. The extended wait (7+ days) for appointments with a Whirlpool-certified appliance repair company, along with the customer education exclusion, were absolute deterrents to the purchase of the extended warranty. Besides my personal disappointment and disgust with the purchase of this appliance, I am sad to see that the Whirlpool brand has slipped so far in product design, quality and customer support.

We bought this refrigerator because it was the only panel ready one we could find. When it was delivered the two doors did not line up. There was an adjustment that could be made but it required that Whirlpool had to do it. We made an appointment and was told it would cost $179 for the adjustment!! This for a refrigerator we had just purchased for several thousand dollars. The service person showed up and after working on the refrigerator he could not balance the doors. He blamed it on uneven floor, misaligned cabinets – anything he could say to shift the blame from Whirlpool. We called and complained again. They sent out another service person. He was just as useless as the first one. Told us to even out the doors we would need to shim the refrigerator which he would not do. Complained to Whirlpool with no results. Finally hired someone not affiliated with Whirlpool who was able to get the doors to be aligned. Never Never buy a Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid Appliance. After having the ice maker replaced on our 14-month old Whirlpool refrigerator, things seemed to be working fine for a while. However, now there are puddles appearing on the floor in front of the refrigerator. This is a freezer-on-the-bottom model and the ice maker is at the top so I was fairly certain it has nothing to do with the ice maker. Turns out there is something dripping into the back of the freezer and over time it builds up a giant ice sheet on the bottom of the freezer compartment. When the ice sheet gets large enough, the dripping water flows out onto the floor. Now Im going in every couple of weeks and chipping the big ice sheet off the bottom so it will stop leaking for several weeks. When I see puddles in front of our refrigerator I know its time to go chip the ice sheet out again. Seriously, I dont think Ive ever had a brand new, and expensive, appliance perform so badly. Whirlpool... never again.

I purchased this refrigerator and have had problems with it from almost the beginning. First, the doors wholl not stay open long enough to remove items. The technician Whirlpool sent out said the cause was an uneven floor. I checked with a level and the floor is almost completely even. So, then it said thats the way it was intended to work. Isnt that what the adjustment wheels on the bottom are supposed to correct? They dont. One individual in Whirlpools customer service department told me that the doors were not a functional part of the fridge and, therefore were not covered by the warranty. What?Next the refrigerator leaked and ruined the ceiling in the floor below. A few weeks after that was fixed (the fridge, not the ceiling), the unit completely shut down and I lost a tremendous amount of food. Bad enough to have to go through this but then to have Whirlpool treat me so the horribly was absurd. Fridge broke on Friday and a service person came out on Wednesday. Tech tells me he has to order the part (control box) and I find out the next day that the part was on back order. I had already been without a fridge for a week when Whirlpool tells me the part was not available until 9/19 (this was on 8/6)! That was not an acceptable solution so I requested a refund or a new fridge. Nope, their job is to repair, not replace. They said they needed 7-10 days to see if they could get the part earlier. What? Then if it couldnt be repaired in a reasonable amount of time they would consider replacing the appliance. They would not define reasonable amount of time.I believe I spoke to about 10 or 12 different whirlpool reps, and was told 4 times that a supervisor would return my call. One person did call back when I was unable to answer the phone and I called her back within 20 minutes. Guess what, she wasnt available and she never responded to my 3 return calls. When I complained that I had spoken to so many different people and was tired of telling the fridge saga to yet another person who would not help me, she volunteered to be my point person. She gave me her direct extension and said she would handle my case. I left 3 or 4 messages for her and she never returned my call. In other words, I was constantly told that I would receive return calls but never did. In summary, no one cared that I had an almost brand new Whirlpool refrigerator that was not working and that the date I could expect a repair was indefinite. In addition to all of that, every time I called they were experiencing a high call volume. Maybe they could hire more staff? When this all started, Home Depot told me I had to go through Whirlpool because it was under their warranty for the first year. Finally I decided to go to the store (after all, I did pay them for the fridge). After 3.5 hours in Home Depot, they agreed to replace the refrigerator. I havent gotten it yet (they did send over a small loaner), I am really hoping this is the end of this fiasco. I want my life back!! !

When the fridge is running and there is a power loss of about a second or so, the fridge shuts down and will not restart (even after hours). I have to unplug it for a minute or so then plug it back in; it runs fine until the next very short power failure. When we are out of town for a few days and that happens, we come home to a fridge of ruined food and a mess. I have contacted Whirlpool (2 times) and they were no help at all. It seems to me a software change could solve the problem, but they are unwilling to listen.

We purchased our Whirlpool refrigerator Model # WRT138TFYW on March 2012. We first started noticing that the eggs and the milk started to get icy. We lowered the setting from the normal setting to the lower setting. This seemed to work for about 5 months then things started to get icy again and this time it started making a loud noise. Then in August, we called Whirlpool, told them what it was doing as it was still under warranty. They sent out A&E, the biggest crooks I have ever dealt with as well as rude people. The service guy said it was probably the Frost board. He ordered the part and put it in. Afterwards, we asked him why it was still making such a ruckus. He told us this was normal. Now we arent a professional and dont know about Appliances so we took the technician for his word. Then this past December, the refrigerator wasnt cooling as good. The next day we noticed that things in the freezer wasnt freezing either. We called Whirlpool, told them what was going on and that they needed to get someone to fix it. This was when we found out that the refrigerator only has a one year warranty. I got them to agree to pay for parts and labor after getting down to the fact that this problem went back to the very first time while it was still under warranty. They sent out A&E Factory Service, again the biggest crooks there is. They checked the refrigerator and told us that the compressor and evaporator was bad. They ordered the parts and that was the last we saw of them. We got Whirlpool to send someone else. Now up to this point, I have to give them credit because they have been really nice. Then when the other technician from Americus Appliance (Very good guy, would recommend to everyone) asked why both parts were ordered, we told him that the technician from A&E said it needed them. He then installed the Compressor and told us that there was nothing wrong with the Evaporator that he could tell. He then filled it with Refrigerant and the freezer was getting very cold. Then about an hour I went to check to see if the refrigerator part was getting cold and it wasnt. I checked the freezer at this time and noticed that the freezer was getting warmer. We then called the service guy and he checked the refrigerator. This was when he told us that there was a leak in the wall of the unit and it couldnt be fixed. We called Whirlpool and told them what the technician said and asked them what they were going to do. They then said they would send everything to the exchange team and go from there. Now we are waiting to see if they will replace the refrigerator. Personally after having to replace a Brand New Washer a year and 2 months after the purchase and possibly now a refrigerator that is less than 2 years old. Buyer Beware. Check out the warranty on a GE. They have a better warranty on their refrigerators than Whirlpool does.

I had problems with the door closure on day 3 of my French Door Refrigerator Model # WRF560SEY. The flap on the left door that seals them fails to fold back if I open the right door first. Which didnt seem like a big deal until I tried to close them and have to remember to close the left door first or itll bang against the right door and Im afraid itll break that piece off then the refrigerator is worthless. The manufacturer drop shipped a new piece, after several attempts of adjusting the closure, and it still does not work. I have written Whirlpool and am told they have a new door on order but it will take 6-8 weeks, that was in March. Now when I contact Whirlpool no one ever returns my calls or emails. I have had the refrigerator only for 15 months and I have fought with either the store or Whirlpool since the third day of owning it. No one cares as long as the appliance is paid for. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance.

2010 upright Whirlpool freezer - Door is totally bubbled in rust. Warranty Plan not covered for this. Whirlpool Corp Serv. Dept said they are sorry but it is not a functional problem. Cost of repairs on 3-yr-old freezer that cost $600.00 would be $732.62. This freezer was rated CR Best Buy in Sept 2009 which was why I purchased it. I paid $81.00 for repair tech from Whirlpool today who could do nothing either. Whirlpool knows that this has been a problem as consumers have complained about this rust in Google, some saying they will never buy a Whirlpool product again. Same here!

I installed my new water heater in 2012. Within 3 months, it was not producing hot water. When I called, a helpful person at the Whirlpool warranty line told me it was because there was too much cold water being mixed into the hot water coming from the tank. I hung up... Called again and was told that they would be able to get someone in 2 weeks out to my house to check it. I told them that was not acceptable. I hung up... I called Lowes, where I bought it. The person on the other line finally, after more than 1 hour, was able to get a repair person out there within 2 days. I had to pay the fee to have the guy come look at my hot water tank, and tell me that he hated Whirlpools. He called Whirlpool, 3 times; he was hung up on 2 times. He explained what had happened was I had a hot water leak, that it probably it was overloaded, the thermostat control everything else was fine. However, that I had installed the heater myself not a professional. Therefore it was not up to NATIONAL code; therefore, Whirlpool refused to honor the warranty. So, short version, in order to get the tank repaired, I was supposed to spend an additional $300-$400 to bring the heater up to code for them to honor the warranty. What you ask made my heater out of code? It is outside in my utility room, and the flue was cut to fit and the OUTSIDE vent pipe was not above the roofline. It didnt matter that it is not in an enclosed space, that this was nothing to do with the reasoning the thermocouple went out.I simply turned up the heat, so far so good. Will I ever buy another Whirlpool? No. I have a Whirlpool fridge bought before the hot water tank situation. The ice maker went out within 6 months of purchase. When I called to have it repaired, the service guy stated he hates Whirlpool. The piece he had to replace was plastic that was replaced with a metal piece that should have been metal to begin with.

Whirlpool Gold GC3SHAXVBOO - Two issues in two years. We purchased this refrigerator online through Whirlpool in April 2010. Almost a year later, a circuit board went. This was repaired under warranty. Our refrigerator was making loud cycling noises and we were told this was normal. Now a year later, again we have an issue. This time its the compressor. We called customer service and were told there is nothing they can do. The cost to fix approximately is $700. This is very upsetting to buy a $2000 refrigerator and have two major issues within two years and then not have the company stand by their product. I would wonder how many other people have this model and have these issues as it seems like a lot. Whirlpool customer service is terrible, non-caring and offered no assistance.

First whirlpool 3 door with ice maker in door failed in less than a year. Took 6 months to resolve issue, several service calls, at least 30 calls to Lowes and Whirlpool with little or no response. Nobody wanted to take responsibility to do something about my broken fridge. Even the authorized repair guy didnt want to touch it, didnt want to ruin his reputation because they wont stay fixed. Another service guy wanted to take it to the shop to repair, of course I would be responsible for pickup and delivery charge. Found out the repair was an in home repair, so didnt use that guy, I felt like he was trying to rip me off.I finally got to the right people in whirlpool organization and they replaced the fridge, that took another two weeks. I found everything takes two weeks. The replacement was supposed to be same model with upgrade, this is gold series fridge Ive been talking about. New fridge has failed also, seems like same symptoms. It lasted 1 yr and 4 or 5 months. I guess not too bad for a top of the line refrigerator, made by Whirlpool. Gonna give them a chance to make it right or I am considering hauling it around in my truck with a sign on it. Not trying to punish the distributor, just Whirlpool. This product is so bad the government should step in and force Whirlpool to give money back.

I chose a Kitchen Aid Stainless Steel, Counter Depth Refrigerator from Lowe’s in early February, 2018. (Model #KRFC300ESS) At the time KA was recommended as the best choice. 1) Within a month there were numerous rust stains on the French door and that needed to be replaced and 2) There is the Damper Control unit which makes a intolerable noise until you replace this motor. This noise then returns....about every three months. Plan on paying just under $200 every year for the life of the refrigerator (at average of 14 years= $2,800!). We have had servicemen to our home now 4 times since our 2/7/18 delivery. A local retailer just rated Appliance Brands in 2020 for reliability and the amount of times serviced and found Kitchen Aid to be 10 of the 10 listed. My recommendation would be to try another brand. This one creates a money pit. :(

We bought a Whirlpool French door fridge model WRF989SDAM00 in 2013 and were impressed by how it looked in our kitchen. Its December 2015 and things have started to go wrong. First the freezer stopped freezing items completely and found out that ice had built up on the cooling tubes inside the rear freezer wall. Had to be taken apart and thawed with a heat gun. Now the freezer freezes on and off and the ice maker is not making ice properly and leaking all over the left side of the fridge. Went to Sears {place of purchase} and we were asked immediately if we had purchased the extended warranty. We hadnt and were told Sears could do nothing and that these newer fridges have a tendency to have trouble within the first couple of years and thats why they recommend the extended warranties. Really a $2500 dollar fridge a couple of years? Had a local appliance repairman look at it and he said the compressor was bad. $500.00 to fix. Boy do I regret buying this thing. These big companies just walk all over us consumers.

Purchased a Whirlpool double door refrigerator and within a year the freezer and refrigerator doors were severely out of line. Called repairman who said the risers were broken, they were plastic and needed to be replaced. We did that. The doors were again out of line so badly that you had to push the refrigerator door side hard to get it to close. Repairman came today and stated he would recommend ditching the refrigerator as the risers in the bottom of the refrigerator are made of plastic and will continue to break. He leveled the doors but stated that they will continue to become out of line again. The repairman stated that this is a design defect in the Whirlpool refrigerator and he has replaced the risers in many of the refrigerators repeatedly. As if the refrigerator isnt enough, we own a Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. Within 3 1/2 yrs the motherboard went bad in the washer and we had to replace it. The part and labor was almost $400. Whirlpool considered us a valued customer and offered us a comparable washer for $500 and they would take ours away for $20 extra. Only problem is that our original washer was $1,000 and the comparable was not as large as the one we had and did not have the stainless ours had.All I can say is if were valued customers I would wonder how they treat their less valued customers. All of this is to say that I will no longer purchase any Whirlpool products. Not only are the products below par but the customer service is non existent. They really do not care if they lose customers or not. They dont want to hear your woes about their appliances.

Whirlpool side by side refrigerator Gold series - I smelled something electrical burning and noticed black smoke billowing out of the back of the refrigerator. I pulled the refrigerator out and unplugged it. I took off the backing and saw a little white box that was on fire. When I unplugged it, the fire went out. I plugged the refrigerator in again and it went up in flames again. This could have been a lot worse. My smoke detector did not go off. It was 12:30 am and was getting ready for bed. If it had been an hour or so, Im afraid this could have ended a lot worse than a fridge full of groceries gone bad. I googled refrigerators catching fire. There are at least five videos with the same problems which lead me to believe there are several more out there. Why hasnt this been recalled?

The Whirlpool Gold Series we purchased, to replace the older refrigerator, has far exceeded our expectations. The French Door setup was exactly what my wife had talked about. The saleslady at Home Depot, where it was the least expensive by $283, was very well informed. We went through the specs, colors, types of finishes, etc and picked the perfect one for my wife's needs and wants. The model performs well fully loaded or almost empty. She told a few family members and they went out and bought the same model, or next model up, as we did. To wrap it all up, "Buy this. It performs as well as, if not better, than all the rest."

Our less than 3 year old Whirlpool Gold Series 3-door refrigerator (WRF989SDAM00) went up 2 days before Christmas (12/22/17). Service guy looked at it and explained that the compressor was going. We lost food in the freezer since that was the first to lose cooling. We were told the parts alone would be over $600 not including labor, which could be just as much -- the actual repair ticket states a blockage in the cooling lines, needs Sealed System Repair. We understood that trying to repair a Sealed system could create more problems/repairs down the road. In Sep. we had ice build up on the inside of fridge under ice unit, part was a recall under warranty and was replaced, then 2 weeks later they needed to replace an additional part (adapter kit & user interface). It was also making a really loud noise on and off. These parts didnt help completely with the load noise. Ice stated building up again by Thanksgiving but went away before I could call again for service. Dont feel that the replacement parts really took care of that problem. Then the compressor went up.This is a Lemon of a fridge. A real waste of money. So frustrated. We did not purchase an extended warranty so it is basically tough luck for us. We ended up having to shop and then purchase a new fridge (Not Whirlpool and never Whirlpool again) in a few hours and spend money that we did not have budgeted for a big purchase a few days before Christmas. Oh, and there is one more thing, I never realized that a Stainless Steel fridge could RUST, well this one has numerous rust spots on the front door! Junk. I do have images of the rust as well as sound of the noise. I am in if a class action suit is filed!

Purchased this simple 30 wide fridge July 2017 to fit a short kitchen slot.
Purchased this simple 30 wide fridge July 2017 to fit a short kitchen slot. It worked adequately, but it only had 3 temp settings. The highest setting was too warm and coldest froze food in the fridge within days. The middle setting was a little cold but the best option. Food in the back did occasionally freeze and we had to be careful for vegetables in the drawer freezing. Often we wrapped lettuce and more fragile veggies in towels to absorb moisture and slow down freezing. Two years after buying - almost to the day - the fridge stopped cooling below 45F. The freezer still worked, so I thought it might be fixable. I tried some DIY repairs from a couple of websites but nothing worked. Within a week, the fridge temps were up to 50-55F. I gave up on buying ice and keeping food in coolers. I bought a GE and havent looked back.

Whirlpool wrf560seyw00 refrigerator plastic tasting water - Purchased 22 months ago. Did not think a warranty was necessary. Even if I had a warranty, they say they wouldnt have paid on the claim. I called Whirlpool asking for a one time goodwill policy adjustment considering Ive outfitted my home in all new Maytag/Whirlpool appliances over the past 3 years. In a nutshell, their plastic water lines to the dispenser in my fridge are deteriorating. There are plastic floaters and a horrible plastic smell and taste. You cannot drink it. First, they blame the filter mixing with the chlorine from my city water (go ahead and laugh... because thats just nuts) and when I told them I removed the filter two weeks ago and there are floaters in the water, they said my water still was to blame. Heres a thought... Dont use cheap plastic lines when you sell someone an expensive appliance! Is it really that difficult to offer a quality product? This is a smaller three-door unit (French on top w/ bottom freezer). There is no water holding tank because its small and we have a copper supply line. My neighbors dont have trouble with theirs either. I may be female but Im not an idiot. Maytag/Whirlpool corporation has lost a loyal 20 plus year customer.

When the service person came out to look at it he stated that it needed a sensor??? And that they would have to wait until the evaporator thawed out to replace the sensor. We had to reschedule another tech on the following Monday 6/24/19 to replace the part. 8 days after the refrigerator stopped cooling. Now fast forward 2 weeks and now we have the exact same issue, whatever was fixed did not correct the issue. We had to call back into Whirlpool to make a setup another service call. We have to wait 5 more days until a service tech can come out to recheck the issue. Whirlpool offered no other assistance. Complain to the FTC Wash DC!!! 2) Chinese mfg gantz mfg defects and how I fixed them: A) back of freezer compartment open, freezer does not freeze B) 45f inside not 40f!!! C) defective thermostat remedies: 1) aluminum foil to seal back freezer 2) weather stripping around door to bring temp from f45 to 40f.D) used Youtube video to adjust defective thermostat, until I can find a replacement thermostat!!! Dys videos: watch youtube repair videos before you trash your frig. 2) check the country of origin, if its made in china, it will not last very long!! 3) buy an extended warranty for any chinese product. You can buy generic frig replacement parts on eBay!!Yes chinese products are cheap, but they do not last!!! One good thing!!! This is a very quiet frig.

I have owned a French-door Whirlpool/Kenmore refrigerator for less than 3 years & all the lights start flashing fast when you open the doors. Anyone that knows anything about seizures know this can set one off. Turns out its a common problem with the LED lights & you have to replace circuit board at over $100.00 for the part, plus you may have to have it installed. Best to stick with a $0.99 bulb you replace every 5 years.

WRF993FIFM00 refrigerator is a LEMON - I bought my $3000 refrigerator just after Christmas. In seven months, it has failed three times and I have been without a refrigerator for a cumulative 7 weeks so far. Each time it failed, I lost all my food, (but not until after wed been eating compromised food). If you buy a fridge, I strongly recommend getting a thermometer, because we learned the hard way that these Whirlpool units can just stop cooling properly and you wont necessarily notice that it is above the FDAs recommendations for food storage. Anyway, after each call they will make an appointment a week or two out for a tech to come out, who then orders the parts that take weeks to come in. Now, my third service call in and the SAME PARTS have failed again and I am again without any refrigeration and they have no idea when the parts will be in. This has been an awful experience, and Whirlpool could not care less. DONT buy their products, under any of their names. IT IS TIME FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Too many folks have spent a lot of money and have been burned by Whirlpool, not to mention becoming ill from improperly chilled food!

I bought model #W4TXNWFWQ at Lowes in February 2013. It had a one-year warranty. Five months after the warranty expired, the defrost timer went out. It cost $100 to fix the $400 refrigerator. Planned obsolescence or coincidence? Either way, its poor quality.

We purchased a Whirlpool side by side from Lowes and an extended warranty. Immediately maybe a month the ice maker froze. Ice container in the door. Repairman said design is notorious for this problem. This was an ongoing problem. They replaced icemaker and it continued. Finally the warranty people told me it could be deemed a lemon if repaired for the same issue 4 times in a year. They deemed it a LEMON and I received a store credit for the purchase price less the warranty amount. I purchased a new LG French door. No issues and its been 5 years. If you have an extended warranty do some checking on the lemon.

I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator for my condo in February of 2012. During the past six months it started to freeze everything in the food compartment, and then during this past month the freezer started to slowly die. Ice cream became soup. After calling repair and examination it appears the fridge has basically died and it would have cost me over $500 to fix a $570 refrigerator. That type of lifespan is unacceptable. Before energy efficiency demands from the government, refrigerators lasted much longer. In the 50s, 60s, the refrigerator my parents owed lasted nearly 30 years. Am I expecting too much? Apparently so. I went out and purchased a Frigidaire this time. Hopefully, Ill get a few more years out of that one (Not happy).

My Whirlpool French Door refrigerator will have its TWO year old birthday on September 15, 2015.. only if it lives that long! On August 8, one month and one week short of its 2nd birthday the compressor died. Of course the manufacturers warranty expired after one year. Thankfully, I purchased an extended warranty through the retailer. While this will cover my repairs, there is nothing that will cover the hundreds of dollars worth of spoiled frozen and refrigerated products which had to be discarded. I will NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT!

I bought my refrigerator model #WRV986FDEM, in October. It has not made ice in over a month. I think its very unfair to purchase a product and not be able to use it. The technician has been out here twice and the situation is still not resolved. I understand that customer service is not a strong suit of your company but I am not a customer to be taken lightly. I paid almost three thousand dollars for this piece of junk and I want it to work properly. I find it unacceptable that the technician just left and the situation is not resolved. I will be posting my displeasure on every site I can today since I had to take yet another day off to accommodate you and your inferior product. ALL I WANT IS ICE from a fridge I bought 4 months ago. In the words of our illustrious president. Very, Very BAD.

I love the French doors with the ease of seeing everything when you open the doors. The only thing I do not like about this unit is the ice maker. If there is more than one person in the household there is never enough ice. Also the ice gets hung up inside the ice maker often.

Whirlpool Refrigerator: Model # WRT111SFDW - We bought this frost-free frig. in Feb of 2016 and this Feb. before the year was up, it started freezing up. I called the Co. and they sent a young man to my house to fix it and he thought he had. Well 2 wks after that it started freezing again and I called the Co. again and the same thing happened again and this was after my warranty had expired. Well then this young man came out and replaced the fan and a heating rod I believe to help it to stop freezing. Well 2 days ago it started freezing up once again. Im disabled and live on a fix income so now Ive got to figure out to get me another frig. And it WILL NOT BE A WHIRLPOOL REFRIGERATOR. But kudos to the Co. and the young man for trying to fix it even though it took 3XS and still not working.

I will never, ever, ever buy a Whirlpool appliance again. We bought the french door bottom mount refrigerator in 2013. After our warranty ran out, we had to have the guts of the refrigerator replaced and then the ice maker replaced again. Now the freezer door wont shut and I cannot believe that Whirlpool would put their name on this piece of junk! We splurged to get what we thought was a high end model but it has been problem after problem. RUN from Whirlpool!

Bought Whirlpool French door refrigerator. Unit was defective when delivered and I told them so. That was on 06/14/2013. Unit got progressively worse and finally has quit completely. At Whirlpools suggestion we bought a Whirlpool Repair Plan Plus One (another scam) for $300. Repairman came out and told us the refrigerator couldnt be fixed. Now Whirlpool suggests their only option is for us to buy a discounted model. This refrigerator went from bad to not working at all in less than a year and a half. Anyone that buys a Whirlpool appliance with knowledge of how they treat customers and back their products has to be a little crazy.

Have two Whirlpool refrigerators. Both perform well. Love the glass shelves, which make it easy to see whats inside and to keep clean. The newest one has the water dispenser inside and not in the door. Would probably not even consider another brand.

We purchased our 4 French door refrigerator in November 2014. It started making a loud noise, like an air compressor about a month ago. So loud that when we are watching TV in the bedroom we have to close the door! It continued to get louder and more frequent so I called Sears. It is under warranty so they sent a repairman out. When he came, he said it was because we had the refrigerator too cold & it was causing ice to be stuck around the fan??? We had it at 5 and the coldest is 7... He suggested we put it on 3. 2 days later and it is making the same noise again. Will be calling Sears again. I saw a similar review saying the same thing!!!! This is a five month old refrigerator! Very disappointed in product and service.

Got this refrigerator when I old one of 10 years through AHS home warranty. I asked for a similar one to the one we had. Surprisingly we received the Whirlpool which turns out to 5 times better than are old GE. Same height and width but deeper and with more compartments. We are extremely happy with it

My Whirlpool Gold, Model # G16FDRXxQ06, has failed four (4) separate times.
My Whirlpool Gold, Model # G16FDRXxQ06, has failed four (4) separate times. In each case I lost thousands of dollars, mostly in high-quality frozen foods. A Sears repair service representative came and repaired the refrigerator. In less than a year, after each repair, I had to call again. Three of these failures resulted in the loss of my food because the refrigerator simply stopped running. Unfortunately, I had been away from home for more than a week. One failure was caused by water leaking. This was apparently caused by a frozen pipe under the refrigerator. The repairman said that this was a routine failure for this Whirlpool model. I would like to recover my financial loss from Whirlpool. Is there a process to claim my loss? Is there a better, more reliable refrigerator?

Purchased side-by-side 3 weeks ago. There are 2 adults and 1 kid in my household and the ice maker in the unit does not put out enough ice to handle our small demand, though this was never an issue with the 14 year old Whirlpool that this one replaced! We are using ice trays to supplement what ice the ice maker puts out but the ice trays take up valuable freezer space. Their service reps have inspected it and tell me that it is performing per the specs and when I ask for what the remedy is, there is none... ie. too bad, so sad!! I am apparently on my own with a brand new refrigerator with an ice maker that wont perform up to minimum expectations!
