My dishwasher racks are disintegrating. I called to see what to do or if there was a recall. I was told that problem happens a lot, but there is no recall or other option other than to purchase new racks. I could almost buy a new dishwasher. I bought Maytag so that it would last a long time with few repairs. That has not been the case with this dishwasher. I had a medium grade Sears’s dishwasher for years before I supposedly upgraded to a better dishwasher. Maytag is obviously an overpriced name and the quality of their product is no better than any other cheap dishwasher.

I purchased a Maytag dishwasher on Oct. 12, 2013. The control panel failed in July 2013 and had to be replaced. I was unable to program a wash cycle and the lights would move all around the front. After the first failure, I was told that the control panel would only be covered for 3 months - the original purchase date for the washer, NOT the date of the NEW control panel. I was then talked into an extended service plan. Now, four months later, the control panel has failed again and I am unable to program a normal wash. A repair man is not scheduled to come for another 9 days. As a single homeowner, this product is not used even on a daily basis. I will never purchase another Maytag washer. They do not back their product with appropriate repairs.

On March 2011, I purchased a Maytag dishwasher model #MDB7749AWB1. The dishwasher worked excellent for 16 months. One morning, with dishes loaded and ready to go, the start button would not light up. The other buttons did light up but that did me no good, I need the start button. A few days later, none of the buttons would light up. I found a repair person who said it would cost over $200.00 to make repairs. I refuse to put another penny with no guarantee that this new part would work. I will never ever buy another Maytag appliance. The last inexpensive, unknown manufacturers dishwasher lasted me 13 years. Do not waste your money on this thing.

I purchased a Maytag dishwasher with a control panel in September of 2013. In August of 2014, the control panel died and did not allow me to run the washer. In March of 2015, the piece which was replaced died. When contacting Maytag, even when they did the repair the first time, said they were unable to cover the cost because it was now out of warranty. Ive seen several class action lawsuits around the product with Maytag. Do not buy a Maytag. It used to be a quality brand, but is now terrible.

Mine is the same sad story as all the others. Bought our Maytag dishwasher in 2013 (model MDB7749) and 15 months later, the control panel went out. We have contacted Maytag and they basically told us it could be our fault it doesnt work, so they wont fix it. Now we have learned that this is an issue that A LOT of people are having. We called their special number for this problem and were told they still wouldnt fix it since we called BEFORE having it repaired. So my question is, how is this legal and why arent they recalling this product? I know that there was a class action lawsuit against Maytag for this problem. Why dont we hold them accountable as well? This is bad business and we shouldnt allow them to take advantage of hard working people like this.

Purchased 6-1/2 years ago when we had kitchen remodeled. Bought the stainless steel with stainless interior. The interior design was perfect for placing the various dishes, glassware and utensils. There are a number of settings to choose from, however, we tend to use it as more of a sanitizer so the light or normal wash are the preferred and dont use the heat-dry as we dont find it necessary. Very pleased with the quietness of the cycles and have no regrets with our purchase.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher on June 2008. This new Maytag dishwasher replaced an older Maytag dishwasher that caught fire and was recalled (I found this out after calling Maytag). The new dishwasher (Model: MDB 5601 AWB) also had a recalled part (heater coil) in February 2011. Two months ago, (the unit is now 3 years old), the control board started malfunctioning (certain cycles no longer work). I called Maytag today (Aug 24, 2011) but I was told by a Maytag representative that there was nothing that they could do. After reading so many complaints, I am ready to file a class action suit. It seems that this company continues to perpetrate fraud against an unsuspecting consumer for they knowingly continue to manufacture defective products.

I purchased our Maytag dishwasher last November. Last week, the control panel went out. I called customer service and they were actually polite and helpful, except for the fact that I had to wait an entire week to have a technician come to my house. Being that I live in the Balt/DC Metro area, I would have thought they would have enough people in the area to come over faster. Anyhow, we finally had the technician come today and tell us that the control panel needs replaced and that he highly recommends an extended warranty, which costs $200 for 5 years. He let my husband know that the repair itself would cost $500 if not covered by warranty!!! What a ripoff! I purchased this dishwasher because I grew up believing in the Maytag brand. Sounds like this is an extremely common issue and if Maytag wants to make things right, they should discontinue sale of their crap product and provide those of us who are stuck with it, a complimentary 5 year warranty. I shouldnt have to pay $200 in extended warranty to make up for the fact that my control panel is likely to go out again in another year, when Ill be forced to buy a new dishwasher.

I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher, Model MBD7609AWW2 from our local (small) Sears store in late 2011. I purchased Maytag because of reputation and experience with the brand. In June 2014 the control panel failed. I replaced it myself and the dishwasher worked fine for a little over two months. Today, it has stopped working again and the control panel again has gone bad and has to be replaced. Sadly, the dishwasher is great in cleaning dishes. I have only had to rewash maybe one or two items in the time that Ive had it. I purchased Maytag because my previous dishwasher was a Maytag that lasted 20 years. Granted I did have to change the belt twice but it was an easy fix. Ive tried repeatedly to contact Maytag today but they are experiencing extremely high call volume... HA! I wonder why? The dishwasher was warrantied for a year and based on the experiences I have read about online, this model was apparently an absolute failure. No more Maytag anything for me... I guess the Maytag Repairman is bored because Maytag doesnt stand behind their appliances.... anymore...

It is quiet and cleans well but thats where it ends. We have had it a little over a year now, after just a few months it started leaking, fixed under warranty. Now one of the upper rack tracks is broken, it was held together with three very flimsy welds, hopefully will be getting it fixed soon. We are going to wait and see what other kind of repair it will need, I think we would have been better off to just buy a cheap dishwasher!

I have had this dishwasher less than 2 years, Maytag model # MDB7749SBM2. The control panel started acting up, it would not let me select a wash cycle, it would select its own and I could not change it. After reading these reviews, I took off the control panel and discovered the wires which are encased in a plastic were all darkened and messed up. I will try to replace it on my own but if I have to I will buy another brand as this dishwasher hasnt really cleaned my dishes all that well to begin with.

I have the same complaint as everyone else. I have had my dishwasher since April 2013. Less than 9 months after having it the control panel went out and they came and replaced it. Now June 2015, 2 years and 2 months after purchasing and a year and a half after the control panel was replaced, none of the buttons work except the cancel button. How is it that these machines, as expensive as they are, crap out after 2 years! Such a waste on money!! Maytag has lost my business forever!!

We purchased our Maytag dishwasher (model MDB7609AWW2) on November 14th, 2009 from a local appliance shop in White Plains, NY. Total purchase price was $449, not including tax.Sometime in November of 2011, the unit stopped working. I tried every simple test I could think of to hopefully reset the unit. Finishing the obvious checks, I researched some possible problems on the internet latch micro switch, drainage problem, dirty latch, etc. Frustrated as nothing got it working again, I called a repairman recommended to us by the appliance store. The repairman charged me $75 for the visit just to tell me that the control board is shot. Even worse, and this is the reason for this letter, the part costs $329 plus $40 in labor! That is outrageous! If you do the math, I am facing the costs of a brand new unit to fix the old one. That might make sense if the unit was 8 years old but it is barely 2.I have sat on the decision now for a few days as I am beyond upset and I never make good decisions when I feel like this. But to recap, Maytag manufactures an appliance where its basic function - turning on - fails in 2 years and the repair cost essentially totals (to use insurance parlance) the unit. I find this absolutely unacceptable.I don’t expect Maytag to do anything for me. But I will say this; I plan on letting everyone I know just how this experience went. To make things worse, I am willing to pay for a quality unit but how does anyone know what that is anymore? For color, my grandmother has a KitchenAid dishwasher from the 1970s that is still running fine. No membrane controls, no delay functions or fancy BS super sanitary cycles and guess what, it has no control board, just plain old dials and buttons. Imagine that mechanical control? Built to last unlike the junk you see today. To remedy, I plan on picking up a used machine from the classifieds. I’ll install it myself and be able to do this for 9 years at $449, assuming it only lasts one year (I’m finding these units for $50 used). I may get lucky and find an old one from the 70s that will last a lot longer than that.

We have had 2 Maytag dishwashers only last less than 2 years. Since we can only have a portable because of owning an older home the expense is too much anymore. We also had a Maytag Neptune clothes washer last only 2 1/2 years. We had always respected Maytag and trusted them. That trust is gone. It is too expensive to buy and lose them after barely 1 1/2 years. We had a Kenmore that lasted 23 years. I dont know what company to trust anymore. The one we just had quit working a month ago was purchased October 3013. Maytag dishwasher Model #MCD4809PAW2 Serial #F34003436.

Do not buy a Maytag dishwasher with model # MDBH969AWB1. I bought this dishwasher last Dec. 2010. I could not use it for 2 weeks, because the door would not shut. The repair man came & fixed the door. Then when I actually got to use it and after it finished running the cycle, the tub was dripping with water all over--top, sides, door, bottom. I had to dry the dishes on the top rack, and I had to leave the door open for days in order for the inside to eventually get dry. The first thing I noticed about this dishwasher when it was installed was that it was smaller than my other dishwasher. I hate the design because of the way they have made the racks plus because it is smaller--it holds less dishes than my old one did. I could actually get almost twice as many dishes in my old one than I can with this one. Do they not think of asking the consumer about what they want in a dishwasher instead of going ahead and making something that is not functional?I am so frustrated with this thing; it has brought me to tears. I just today went to Sears and looked at their Kenmore dishwasher. It is designed more like my old one than any of the other makes out today. I wish I had checked this out, before I bought this Maytag. Weve always heard how Maytag is at the top of the line with no problems, right? Dont believe it. I will never buy another one. Whoever is designing these dishwashers need to go back to 1990 and take a look at how it was designed and then go back to making them like that. I loved my older dishwasher, and I wish I had never let them take it away. I wish I had taken the money I spent on this ridiculous Maytag and had my old one fixed no matter what the cost. I made a terrible mistake. If you have an older dishwasher and it has given you good service for years, I suggest you have it fixed and keep it, because you will not like the performance of what they are selling today. It does not matter what brand you buy, they are all designed the same. Just take a look and compare them. But if you buy, please check out the Kenmore. I dont know if the performance is better, but the racks are better designed. My old dishwasher was a Hotpoint. It was the cheapest one on the market, and it gave me the most wonderful service ever. The dishes were always very clean, the heating element was fantastic, and it always dried the dishes completely. I cant believe they would make a product like they do today and sell them for what they do. The heating element in them today is not as good or strong as what they used to make. That is why the dishes wont dry properly. You get way less than what you pay for. Thinking a new dishwasher is the way to go, think again. Please, if at all possible, keep your old one and have it fixed over & over again. I hate this dishwasher. What a joke on the unsuspecting buyer.

Purchased a new Maytag dishwasher three years ago. After having it for one year the panel box no longer worked. Had to pay $300.00 to repair. Now half way through washing the dishes again no water will go into the machine. Only the first part of the cycle. I am sure it is going to be the panel box after reading other peoples problems with this machine. I will not pay to have it fixed this time. I will have to buy a new dishwasher. I will never purchase a Maytag product ever again. I have lived in my home for 40 years and never had a problem with any appliances. This would have been my third dishwasher in 40 years and as you can see it has not even lasted 4 years. I will inform my friends to stay away from Maytag.

On 8/26/16, we purchased a top-of-the-line Maytag dishwasher from Lowes of Palm Bay, Fl. It began leaking water out one side shortly after installation. Because of a hospitalization, we were not able to report the problem to Lowes until the first part of December. A repairman from Brandts in Sebastian, Fl. came out on 12/6/16 and said it might be the door gasket, but he did not have a new one with him and if it continued, to call back. I called again and another repairman from Brandts came out on 1/3/17. He said it was out of square and he took out 2 screws and said to cut back on detergent because too many suds could cause it to leak (which we find ludicrous). Now it leaks on both sides. This is not a small leak; it soaks the bath towel we put under the door. On 1/11/17 Brandts sent 2 repairmen out and they claimed we needed to cut way back on detergent and put in a capful of salad oil because our water softener is causing the suds which causes the leak. We now use 1/2 teaspoon of detergent and the capful of salad oil. It is still leaking. Our previous Kitchen Aid dishwasher never leaked and we used the recommended amount of detergent in it. We are apparently stuck with a brand-new dishwasher that cannot be fixed. We will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance.

Bought a dishwasher about 2 years ago, through Home Depot. After it was installed, contacted Maytag to let them know that it didnt seem to be working correctly. They sent out a repairman, who looked at the machine, and then told us that with the new eco friendly settings, it would be best to let the dishes dry overnight. It seems that the company and its employees dont know [or care] about the product. Contacted their service/helpline to let them know that the screws on the insides of the latch [on the cover] are NOT screwing into anything, they come loose. Person couldnt find same in his system, finally sent screw, but they were the wrong size and didnt work. Maytag french door fridge model MFF2558VEW7. I bought this fridge about 3 years ago. Have had nothing but problems. First I had problems with the freezer frosting up, then I had the same problem of ice buildup in bottom of freezer. Now the freezer only gets cold enough to cool drinks and the fridge only gets to about 60 degrees. This is not the only Maytag appliance I have had problems with. I bought a dishwasher a few years ago that quit working just after the warranty ran out. Both bought from Home Depot. After reading other reviews, it seems that appliances bought from Home Depot have had problems too.

Home Depot told me I had to bring it back myself (Im in a wheelchair at the months that was impossible) and I called Maytag warranty. They sent a tech. He replaced a front power panel that didnt work. They sent out two more techs and they said use other soap Lemi Shine and the other guy said use Finish and turn your hot water heater all the way up. That never worked either. I have had this a yr and it just sit there and money in the trash. It makes me sick.

We purchased a MDB8949SAW dishwasher in 2013. 1 month after the warranty expired the touch buttons went on it. If you selected normal it would opt for something else like rinse only. We researched online and my husband followed instruction online to take the door off and seal the moisture to prevent this from happening. This worked for about 2 months and now back to the same thing. We paid $500 for this and just living with the problem for now. All we can do is warn others.

We updated our 25 years old dishwasher, which ironically still worked, to a Maytag we bought at a BrandsMart in GA in November 2010. Sixteen months later, the unit just died. The panel would light up, but would not run. We contacted Maytag and were assigned a repairman (The Appliance Guy) who could not come to fix the dishwasher until 5 days later. Once he finally showed up, I was informed by him that the control panel for the dishwasher had two shorts in it and it would be cheaper for me to just buy a new dishwasher because the repair to this one would be $344.44. When I contacted the customer service for Maytag, they offered to let me pay for the repairs and then they would give me a six month service warranty for free. Does that make sense to anyone? I could buy a totally different brand, brand-spanking-new and have a twelve month warranty with a better product. I asked to speak with Cheris boss and got to speak with Aaron, who offered me the same spiel. Heavily scripted, I apologize that you are dissatisfied, but all we can do is give you the service warranty for six months after you pay for the repair. I asked him if he was reading a script and he replied no. Now I know that he had probably repeated these same words twenty times a day. Heres a thought, Maytag claims to be a green company, using less electricity and water, and saving the customers money and yet they are filling up all the landfills with these appliances that are not even five years old. How is that being a green company? You know how when you buy a nice new button-up shirt? The makers of that good quality shirt go ahead and sew an extra button on the inside bottom part of the shirt because they know that theres a chance youll lose a button. Well, Im thinking that Maytag should just start shipping a couple extra control panels in every box of Maytag dishwashers. Crazy idea, right? Okay, so an easier and cheaper way for Maytag to correct the problem is to stop making dishwashers. Go back to the drawing board, make the engineer who designed the control panel wash everyones dishes (as punishment and he can get help from the customer service people because theyre really doing nothing), start building the old design dishwasher that has the old switch and dial, and start respecting their customers. There, problems solved!

I purchased my Maytag dishwasher thru Costco. I did so because I got a 2 year warranty if I bought thru them. The washer was approximately 6 months old and they replaced the pump. Approximately 3 months later they replaced the heater. Approximately 4 months after that they replaced the entire operating/electronic board located in the door. Approximately 6 weeks before the warranty was up they had to rebuild the middle dish tray. Now that the warranty is expired by 2 months the door is leaking like a sieve. Unlike most families we use our dishwasher at least twice daily. In summation I would not recommend this brand of appliances to anyone. I will not pay to have this one repaired.

Now, less than a year later it has failed and will cost over $200 to replace and repair. This is disgusting.

I, like SO many other people, am experiencing problems with a relatively new Maytag dishwasher. Mine is Model MDBH979SAB1. I have owned the dishwasher for 4 years but use it 6 months of the year and, because I live alone, maybe twice a week. In effect, it has the equivalent of less than a year of normal use. My problem is the same as countless other people. I can tell from how it behaves that it needs a new control board. I find little comfort in the fact that I one of several thousand people experiencing a problem with a newer Maytag appliance. What concerns me, after reading many negative reviews and seeing Maytags response, is that Maytag does not seem to care. We need to get the word out. We need a massive boycott of Maytag. We need to hit them where it hurts: in their bottom line. Since they seem to be content to continue to put out defective products, the only way to protect consumers is to put Maytag out of business.

The control panel died on this dishwasher (MDB7749) after only 2.5 years of light use. I was quoted about $250.00 plus labor to have the panel replaced. No more Maytag products for me. I plan to purchase a Bosch to replace it.

I own a Maytag dishwasher - it is a few years old now. I first filed a complaint in 2011. We have had it repaired several times - the control panel keeps breaking. Why is it that my grandmothers old dishwasher worked for 30-40 years and now you are lucky if you can get an appliance that works for a year without breaking? This planned obsolescence is ridiculous. Do not buy Maytag products - hit them where it hurts - in the wallet. They used to build quality products, but not anymore. I contacted the law firm in California that another person had listed as they have started a class action lawsuit. Eppsteiner & Fiorica Attorneys, LLP, at 866-548-8857 - if you are having atrocious problems with your Maytag dishwasher (they mentioned Fridgidaire, too) - because of the control panel, please call. The company wont fix the issue unless they are forced to.

I purchased a Maytag dish washer (not even 2 years old yet). I bought it on 8/29/10 and I paid over $400.00 for it brand new. The model number is MDBH949AWW1 and the serial number is F03422327. I am only asking for the part (motherboard). I have lots of friends and associates at church, work and social that I have talked to about this Maytag. And I would like to give a good report about the company and what they make and that they stand behind their workmanship. I know for a fact that they have 22 motherboards on hand ready to go out and what I have read online is that many people are having the same problem. I need a motherboard. I believe this unit should easily last over 10 years, so I am not asking for much. I will have it installed myself. I just need the part. I trust that you are a reputable company that has been around for many years and Whirlpool has taken new ownership and they have been around for a long time, too! My own parents owned one for over 30 years. This is all that I would request. I’m thanking you in advance.

In March 2014 I purchased all my kitchen appliances from Home Depot. Everything was Whirlpool except the dishwasher, a Maytag. The floor in my kitchen is wood, and I noticed that the finish was coming up in the area around the dishwasher. I called an accredited service company and the technician said the appliance was not level and proceeded to do that. Next, tech #2 - dishwasher not level, fixed it - different company. Tech #3 - dishwasher not level, fixed it, said perhaps I did not load the appliance properly and water splashed out! Dishwasher continued to leak, floor continued to warp. Came back as #4 and decided it was the control in door. Ordered new one, installed it - dishwasher leaked. Called Maytag at that point. They refuse to accept that it is defective merchandise, will not replace it on my word. They need a tech to certify that it is unfixable. Tune in tomorrow. This will be #5. I bought a Maytag dishwasher (Model: MDBH949AWS2) from Home Depot on 07 April 11 and it died 24 August 11. I called Maytag to set up an appointment for repair. The repair person showed up and stated that the control panel needed to be replaced. Apparently, if moisture gets into the panel it shorts it out. One would think that when designing an appliance that utilizes water and creates steam, it would be sealed. Anyway, the repairman explained that because the dishwasher was in a residential program, the warranty was null and void. I wish that someone would have explained this before I purchased it. I went online to AppliancePartsPro.com and ordered the part for $100.75 including the shipping cost. Then, I went back online to look up how to install the panel. The repair person said that they are charging $133.00 for the part and $129.00 to install. A small star tip screwdriver and 15 minutes was all it took to fix. From what I have read, this will not be the last control panel but, at least, I know how to fix it. Another thing that I know is that Maytag is off my list of future appliance purchases regardless of where Im using them.

The repairman said they are no longer made to last and have been that way since about the year 2000. All of the inner workings are run by electronics which only last about two years. I would never ever purchase another Maytag dishwasher, or any other appliance made by them or Whirlpool which took over Maytag.

My experience is very similar to Richards below. I have an MDBH979AWS3 that was purchased new in April of 2010. Just over one month after my warranty expired, the touch panel ceased to work. Since it was no longer in warranty, I had to replace it out of pocket. The wiring harness to the old panel looked heat damaged. Last winter, the central computer died. The machine was useless. I called Maytag customer service and actually seemed to find a sympathetic ear. They agreed to a new part if I paid $129 for one of the two companies doing certified repair to install it. During the summer, it blew several fuses. Then in late November of this year, the touch panel went again. I hesitated on how to respond and waited until after the holidays to call them. I got the most rude customer service rep that Ive dealt with in a long time. Somehow, I was blamed for a misdiagnosis on the computer panel (duh, no, that was a different issue and it was indeed broken), accused of misuse of the dishwasher, and flatly told that they werent going to do anything more on a machine. So far, out of warranty. Im sorry, but I cant accept that a machine under 3 years old should have 3 major failures. Maytag has to step up and at least look at this problem. From what Ive read, this is a common problem that has resulted in several fires. Maytag has to know about this and continues to do nothing, not even issue a recall on the current touch panel used. I am now faced with putting another $100 in (which puts me at about $350 total on a machine I paid almost $500 for) or just buy a new product. Rest assured I will never buy another Maytag-Whirlpool appliance.

In December of 2013, I purchased a Middle of the Line Maytag Dishwasher model #MDB8949SBW for $600 plus $200.00 for install and removal of 5 yr old Kenmore. At that time I thought I did my research and saw no major negative flaws on this type of machine or similar machines. This replaced a 5 yr old low line Kenmore that just upped and died. Installed just before the holidays, this Maytag machine seemed to have worked tirelessly until a few days ago August 18/2015. The computer controls went haywire. I was hitting normal start buttons and other buttons on the other side of the control panel were blinking and lighting up. Worse was trying to cancel and the control boards were not responding. Even hitting the start button, the machine would not turn on. Finally looking at the facia, I see the tabs of the flexible plastic frame that hold the control panel popping out from underneath the white facia plate. Snapping the frame back in and applying a lot of pressure got the machine to operate. With a family of four and minimal storage space, this machine is used approx once a day. It appears over the year and 1/2 by pulling on the plastic handle - which also happens to be the computer control board frame, the computer has separated from its mount and has allowed moisture to hit the control board/computer and wreak havoc on the electronics. Looking up this model online NOW, I see I am not the only one with Dishwasher computers failing within a year or two- just out of the one year warranty. A Call to Maytags customer service has the computer control board alone cost $160.00 plus the service tech and his labor fees reaching in excess of $450.00. The CS rep gave me a repair discount to $267.00 and a week wait for the Service Tech for this problem to be fixed. I bought this machine on two premises - one for its price, it was the only machine that offered 3 spin jets that really do a good job in cleaning dishes and 2, I owned a 1984 Maytag dishwasher in another home with computer controls in the handle and to this day, that machine is still running flawlessly! My only issue with the 84 Maytag machine was after 4 years the door gasket went - too much soap - replaced and no issues since! I expected similar performance with this one. I guess I have to spend north of 3 bills for similar performance and quality. What was I thinking?

After reading several of the reviews, it looks like Maytag doesnt get it - or maybe they do and its a plot to make more money. Our dishwasher model MDB8959FSZ4 was installed in Dec. 2016. Within the year, it started leaking. After many service calls it was determined that the arms holding the upper rack were not installed properly and were pushing against the door and water was coming out. After that was replaced, weve had 2 years of relative good use. Now, it wont empty and that started after smelling something burning. The burning smell has gone away but it wont complete a cycle. Service tells us its the drainage pump and that will cost nearly $500 to replace. We wont be spending another dime on this piece of crap. Well replace it with NOT A MAYTAG. 13 months after purchasing MDB7749SBM3 dishwasher this lights started making no sense. For me the buttons still work, but it seems like only a matter of time until they stop working too. Like many others, I opened up the door and found the corroded ribbon connector (see photo). It wasnt damp so since the corrosion happened at the point where a ridge of plastic presses the ribbon against the hot handle, I suspect heat. Obviously a design flaw. Come on Maytag. Recall?

Purchased this dishwasher about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Luckily the first two times the control panel went out, it was still under warranty (within the first year). Now its gone out again! This is the third time! What happens is all the buttons will work except for the START and CANCEL. This has been the same issue every time. I tried restarting it, made sure there was not a leak that somehow was getting to the internal electrical components in the panel. I actually know the Maytag repairman by name. Its nothing like those old commercials where the Maytag repairman sits around and has all the time in the world because their products never break. Those days are over and these guys are busy working to fix these devices they label as dishwashers. Since my warranty is now expired, it was an unexpected $96 service call to tell me what I already knew - Its your panel again sir, it needs to be replaced. Well have to order one for you and itll be $265 for parts and labor plus the $96 service call = $361 repair for something that will likely break again in a few months. Never am I buying a Maytag product again.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune Washer in 2006 for $665.00 from Sears. Three years later, the control board broke and I paid $400 to replace it. In 2011, the motor and motor board need replacing which will cost $410.00. We kept getting an LR code. So in 5 years, our repairs cost more than the original machine. Maytag can count on never getting my business again. Im only sorry that I purchased a Maytag dishwasher this Summer.

Purchased Maytag dishwasher two years ago from Home Depot. It worked for about six months before it would stop working. When adding a dish after initial start would cause the unit to just die. After unplugging unit for a day the start/cancel drain buttons will flash. After reading online about a demo mode have tried and gotten it to work periodically. I continue to read online and have found there is a diagnostic mode. The settings are in a schematic packed with the unit. I found mine written in French (part #W10321879A). I called Maytag/Whirlpool and asked for the English version. They could not and would not provide me with part #W10321878A the English version, a single sheet of paper. They will only provide to a licensed repair technician. I am only asking for what should have been included in the original purchase. I paid $850 for a dishwasher that is not chump change. I know the control panel is bad but I would like to use it until the new part arrives. I think I may return the control panel and take my losses and go buy a brand that is not owned by Cesspool (Whirlpool).

We bought our $600 Maytag dishwasher less than two years ago and have had three separate problems with it, from faulty instillation, to a faulty seal to faulty control panel. The first problem was covered under warranty, the second problem we fixed ourselves and the third problem, nothing can be done except pay an additional fee of $250+ for a new part. Maytag used to be a good name but with three problems in under two years, the only guarantee given is that if you buy one, be prepared for problems. This company does not stand by their products and will only ask for more money to fix their faulty items.

I bought model MDBM601AWB3 in October of 2009. The control panel and wiring harness burned in August of 2011 after, at the most, running twice a week. I called customer service and talked to numerous people. All said, Too bad, out of warranty. I did a quick Google and learned it is a common problem and even a fire hazard with Maytag dishwashers. My wife, who was being treated for lung cancer at the time and was very emotional, got a hold of someone in corporate and literally cried that we could not afford the $600 to fix a problem they knew it had when they sold it to us. They relented and agreed to pay for parts; we pay labor. Today, 1/10/13, the control panel is dead again. I suspect it is the same problem as all they did was replace the panel and wires. This machine has obvious dangerous design flaws that they were aware of. I find it sad that a company can screw people like this and get away with it. What recourse do we have now?

I have a Maytag washing machine (MDBTT53AWW1). The total cost is $524 for machine plus installation. And the cost of yearly repair on this machine is $300.I purchased this machine a year and 10 months ago in January 2010. A few months ago, the control panel started to only light up partially but the washing machine continued to run. A few days ago, when i tried to turn on the machine, it would not work--the control panel was no longer lighting up. I called a repair man recommended by Lowes, and after explaining the problem over the phone, we scheduled a time for him to come (ten days later was his first available opening!).Ten days later with a broken washing machine and doing all the washing by hand, the repair man came late. When I made the appointment, I was told he would come anytime from 8 to 11 a.m., and of course, he did not show up until almost 1:00 pm. When he finally arrived, all he did was look at the model and determined instantly that the reason our control panel was no longer working was due to a faulty design. This dishwasher allows the steam to escape through a small vent placed to the left of the control panel. The steam inevitably causes a short circuit, meaning that this will be a reoccurring problem every year.He did not dismantle anything and was in my home for no more than 5 minutes. I was told the cost of a new control panel would be $141 plus his labor fee of $137. So all in all, if you purchase a Maytag appliance, the initial cost is irrelevant. If you purchase a Maytag appliance, you will spend almost $300 yearly to maintain it--basically the cost of a brand-new washing machine.Something needs to be done; this is unacceptable. The least Maytag could do is provide all of us, fools who believed in their product and thought that they were of quality, with a free10-year warranty for this faulty machine which is pre-determined to break down every year as a result of their poor design planning.Cost aside, what kind of world are we living in that major appliances are made to last just one year and then are to be thrown in the dump? There is no way I will pay $300 for the next ten years to maintain a product that is made to break. That is wasteful and disastrous for the environment. Shame on you, Maytag. You will be filling landfills around the country with your terrible products, and the world will be a worse place for it.

Purchased a Maytag MDB4949SHZ dishwasher new from Home Depot in January 2018 as part of an extensive home remodel and addition. Did not move back in permanently until late June 2019, so the unit was not used at all until then. It quit working in January 2021 and our local (Sandpoint, ID) appliance repairman diagnosed a bad motor and pump assembly (the main functional component of the dishwasher). The unit was marketed as having a 10 year warranty and based on past experience with older Maytag appliances we purchased it. The fine print reveals that the 10 year warranty applies only to components that are unlikely to ever wear out or fail; all the rest are covered by a one year warranty. Part cost is over $200 and does not include installation. Maytag customer service (45+ minute hold to speak to a live human) of no help. No way are we throwing good money after bad to fix it. Lesson learned; just purchased a Bosch.

There was a maytag dishwasher in the house we bought 11 yrs ago. The only problem we have had is a recall on the rinse aid dispenser which was replaced by a service man but never worked again. We are completely satisfied with the operation of the unit, our only disappointment is the wire racks. The original racks plastic coating broke at the end nubs and became rusty and swollen. We found someone selling a unit and we just took the racks and left the unit for him to resell rackless. Unfortunately not two yrs later the same thing has happened to those racks. Even tried these little plastic covers that are made specifically for this problem. They were virtually impossible to get on and didn’t last more than a few months.

Maytag MDBH979SAM1 w/ Steam - I purchased this dishwasher Jan 2014 as a scratch or dent at the Sears Outlet. The dishwasher worked great until 4-5-2015. About 3 months after the warranty ran out I called Sears and asked if there was any extended warranty coverage since I used the Sears card. They said No, but recommended I call MasterCard since my card had the MC emblem. MC says that they do extend the warranty up to 12 months. I just filed a claim and hopefully will get a paid for repair. So, if you used a credit card, you may have a warranty extension like me. Check it out. 2 stars because the dishwater is a great unit except for the control board. What a shame Maytag.

My husband and I purchased the Maytag dishwasher model #MDB7609AWW2 in December 2010. July 2012, the control panel would not operate. I called Sears to schedule a repair appointment. (I did not have an extended warranty.) After reading review after review of complaints about Maytag and control panel issues and learning it is a very costly repair, I called Whirlpool which now owns Maytag. (Be advised, Maytag is not the quality product it once was). Reviews also indicate that the replaced control panels are failing within 6 months to a year and a half. After talking to a person in the Maytag/Whirlpool service department, he suggested some things to do: unplug power, unlock control panel, etc. He determined it was most likely the control panel that needed to be replaced. I asked how long a new panel would last informing him of the complaints Id read. All he would tell me was that I had the option to buy an extended warranty. We have decided not repair the dishwasher and will replace it with a non-Maytag and non-Whirlpool brand. I will never buy Maytag or any products made by Whirlpool again. For a major component of the dishwasher to last only a year and a half is unconscionable.

Like so many others, I now discover, we are having a ridiculously frustrating problem with our Maytag dishwasher, bought one and a half years ago. Last week, the control panel stopped working -- we press normal and a whole bunch of other lights come on; try to press other cleaning options and entirely different ones light up again. Sometimes we can get it, with luck, to quick wash or super clean and thus have our dishes cleaned (which the machine never did that effectively anyway); sometimes we cant. I havent called the company yet, but given what Ive read, Im unsure if it would do any good. Judging from all the similar comments, Maytag is clearly selling a radically inferior product and care nothing much about this. We will surely never, ever buy another one of their products.

Bought the dishwasher (model MDB8969SDM0) at Lowes Burlington Canada beginning of September. After two months of use, the plastic pins and attachment to the drum, top rack broke and cracked in several places. Called Whirlpool Canada for repairs many times and got the run around, spent hours on the phone and still not resolved as of December 12, 2014. This model has a problem with the plastic and breaks continuously as seen by many reviews on the internet. The technician said that this is a problem with this newest model. I have now been waiting for over two weeks for the parts with no end in sight since they claim that the parts are back ordered. Called again today and was told that it would be another week to see if they can find the pieces. This is ridiculous, I paid over $ l,000 dollars for this model and it looks like now that I will not have it repaired by Christmas. Lowes refuses to help me because they have washed their hands since it broke after one month. I have been lied to many times by customer service at Whirlpool Canada. They claim that I am the first one to complain about this model yet the reviews on the internet are full with this issue. They say what you want to hear and do not seem to care at all. It is a disgrace, I feel totally cheated and robbed of my hard earned money. Maytag is no longer a good company for their appliances and service. Problems with Maytag dishwasher, purchased at Sears Canada Model MDB7749S is only a couple of years old, and as such is no longer under warranty. This Dishwasher is less than 3 years old! Both the interior and exterior is stainless steel and looks virtually new. Cost of parts and labour to repair amount to more than a new dishwasher--this is unacceptable. Poor design. Little value compared to cost. First issue: bottom rack wheels fall off because the plastic pin holding the plastic wheels on the rack become fall out, leaving no way to hold the wheels onto the rack. Second issue: faulty design of the integrated door handle and control panel on the exterior door face. The control panel pops out of the front cover panel when door is pulled open. With some struggle it can be popped back in.I agree with another reviewer who wrote: The design of the faceplate is defective in that too much force is applied to the faceplate when opening the unit. The handle is integrated in to the faceplate. The plastic used becomes brittle over time and breaks. The panel unit (W10811169) must be replaced in entirety rather than just its housing increasing the cost of repair. To have this failure occur within the first 3 years of use is very premature. I can only assume if I repair the dishwasher I will have the same problem again. I am considering buying a new model that is designed better and comes with a longer warranty on such parts.

Our Maytag Dishwasher, Model MDB4949SDE2 was purchased May 14, 2016 at Home Depot for $470. It has performed perfectly until January 6, 2020, when a noise, loud enough to imitate grinding wheel, happened with every Start-Up attempt. An independent technician advised replacing the pump motor, thinking that perhaps some popcorn kernels had lodged in the system. (Kernels were cleaned out of the drain filter.)We operated the unit after he left, and the noise began to diminish, eventually disappearing altogether after several loads. Today, February 26, 2020, the same tech found that the large, upper impeller was clogged (not rinsing completely) with citrus seeds and VARIOUS METAL SHAVINGS & SMALL PIECES OF WHAT WOULD BE CHOPPER BLADES FROM THE INTERNAL GARBAGE DISPOSAL. After reading the Maytag Dishwasher problems experienced by others (with repeated control panel failure, burning wires, leaks, and house fires), I consider us lucky to have none of those. We will not run the unit at night, nor with an empty house. Next problem, we will buy a Chinese made dishwasher, like GE.

Purchased this Maytag dishwasher (Model DB7749SBM2) from a Sears 2014, no problems until now in late June 2014. The control panel is not responding. Start/Resume light is off, pressing it doesnt seem to do anything. Cancel light is off, pressing it does trigger the cancel drain process. Wash Cycle choices either dont respond, or for 2 of the choices engage an incorrect cycle. Option choices dont respond. Delay light comes on when an incorrect cycle choice displays but stays at 2 hours, cannot be toggled off or to a different delay length. Holding Control Lock or Delay for 3 seconds doesnt seem to clear the circuit board logic. Problem began with the Cycle choice buttons defaulting to Rinse Only. Control panel behaves not at all or incorrectly as described above. Seems to be a common Maytag control board/panel problem. We need help as we are unable to afford repair or another dishwasher. This time, it will not run at all. I called customer service today (August 11, 2015) and they expect me to pay for the repair. Repairman already said electronic board bad at a cost of around $300 just for the parts. It is easy to Google and find multiple review sites that indicate hundreds of consumers have similar problems, but Maytag will not acknowledge any issue. Based on the pattern the warranty is not going to help as it goes out just after a year. For only having it 1 1/2 years it is becoming very expensive. There should be a recall on this control panel.

I purchased this high-end dishwasher 7 years ago and 3 years of fairly light use, the control panel on the top would operate sporadically or not at all. Called the dealer who sent out the repairman that installed it and had to replace the control panel to the tune of $300 once the labor was included (took 2 visits as he had to order the part, so 2 trip charges). Now 3 & 1/2 years later, it is doing it again!! A call to Maytag and then a transfer to Whirlpool customer service got me nowhere. They said there were no recalls or documentation for problems with the dishwasher. Really??? I see lots of complaints on this problem with very similar Maytag dishwasher models. They would not send me a new part at no charge as a result but offered to set up a service appointment for me so I can spend another $300 (probably higher now after 3 years) and would register my complaint. Thanks for nothing!Doing that would turn my originally $900 dishwasher into a $1500 one with the result that it will probably fail again in 3 years. Absolutely ridiculous customer service. I saw a YouTube video on taking it apart and applying silicone around the ribbon connections as others have done in the hopes I can get it working again for a while as I dont have the $$$ needed to replace it again on a retired fixed income. :(

We purchased a Maytag MDB7749SBWO Maytag dishwasher. Suddenly the control panel does not work. Trying to find out why I found that there are thousands of complaints about this known defect with water and steam getting in and corroding the control panel. Shame on Maytag for continuing to sell these without fixing the problem. I expected my dishwasher to last many years based on the Maytag reputation instead I need to replace it. I am not going to spend the money on a repair with a machine that will have the same problem again according to other consumers.

Maytag never fails to please me. My dishwasher is so quiet I sometimes have to put my ear next to it to make sure it’s actually working. The inside is stainless steel (those are the quietest) and it has a child lock so my 2 yo grandson can push all the buttons he wants and he still can’t mess things up. I love the high temp and sanitize features and everything is always clean and dry when done. It seems like it takes a long time to run through all the cycles, though. That and no adjustable top rack are the only two things I miss with my previous dishwasher.
