Maytag Dishwasher Troubleshooting
If you're looking for help fixing your Maytag Dishwasher, look no further! Our comprehensive Maytag Dishwasher Troubleshooting guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and show you how to read your model's error codes.
Maytag Dishwasher Not Starting or Not Operating
There are several reasons why your Maytag dishwasher not starting or not operating:
control lock is on
dishwasher is in sleep mode
delayed wash option is selected
door is not completely closed and latched
water supply is not turned on
the power needs to be cycled to reset the dishwasher
Has a delay wash option been selected?
A delay wash option runs the dishwasher at a later time or during off-peak electrical hours. If the delay wash has been selected, the dishwasher will not run until the delay time is reached.
To Turn Off the Delay Wash Feature:
Press CANCEL/DRAIN to cancel the delay.
Press START/RESUME to start the cycle.
Is the door completely closed and latched?
Make sure that the door is completely closed and latched. A lower dish rack that is installed backward can also cause the door to not latch properly.
Is the water supply turned on to the dishwasher?
Make sure the dishwasher water supply is turned on. See installation instructions for your model if you are unsure how to check this.
How to reset the dishwasher:
Much like a computer, resetting the dishwasher control can sometimes solve the issues you are experiencing. To reset the dishwasher control panel, it needs to be disconnected from the power source for one minute. If your dishwasher is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for one minute and then plug the unit back in. If the dishwasher is hard wired to the power supply, turn the breaker off at the home electrical panel that powers the dishwasher for one minute and then turn the breaker back on.

Maytag Dishwasher difficulty
I purchased my machine on June 2, 2021 and it was delivered and installed on June 4. I have successfully done two loads of laundry. On June 9, I attempted washing two small bath mats and 2 dish towels. When I returned to the laundry room to place the load in my dryer, I found the the items in soapy water. I tried many times to reset the load with no success. On June 10th I called Maytag’s customer service and spoke with an associate who walked me through a couple of common quick fixes. These also were unsuccessful. She referred me to warranty service. I will not be able to have my machine repaired until June 23rd! Obviously, if their repair department is so overwhelmed, the products they sell are a piece of junk. I am furious with both the product and the service I have received.
Within 2 months of 1 year warranty running out, the control panel went wacky - does all kinds of weird things except work right. Called to see if there is any suggestions or work arounds and was told they would be glad to set up a service call for between $70 and $100, where they could tell me how much it would cost to fix. As with the other 100s of folks with the same problem, they basically said gee, you should have bought an extended warranty. If you have this many people with the same problem then it is Maytags problem, not the poor sucker consumer who got stuck with it. If you are considering this dishwasher, run, dont walk, as far from a Maytag or Westinghouse product as you can get. If anyone starts a class action suit against this product, please count us in!
We spent $600 on a Maytag Jet Steam Plus dishwasher and its junk. We bought it in May of 2013 and the top panel is burnt out and the ribbon or control wires is corroded. Maytag wont pay for replacement parts and I wouldnt recommend anyone buy Maytag again. I thought it was supposedly a good brand but its nothing but garbage.
After 15 months of use the Maytag Dishwasher MDB8959SBS2 the control panel start malfunction. I read very carefully about the Home Depot Customer reports before purchasing this built in stainless steel dishwasher, and supposed to be one of the top notch on the market, around $850 retail price. It becomes a big disappointment. After three months of use, the top rack handle broken but it still under manufacture warranty, so we get it fixed by Maytag contractor. Then 15 months after regular use for a family of five, the control panel start malfunction, few bottoms will not start anymore. We are out of luck with one year manufacture warranty and working towards our VISA card extended warranty to try to get it fixed.
Maytag Dishwasher model MDBH989AWB3. The dishwasher was purchased at Home Depot March 19, 2010 in Hollywood, FL; delivered to our new home April 16, 2010 in Brunswick, ME. My complaint is the exact same complaint as the previous 28 complaints! I think the reason our unit worked for 6 yrs is because it was in use only 6 months a year. My experience: you make your selection, two lights come on, you press start, but nothing happens. You think this is a simple repair. You read the manual and try their troubleshooting advice, but to no avail. When you contact the company, they tell you that this is going to be an expensive repair, probably over $500. You contact Home Depot who want nothing to do with you or your dead dishwasher. Their advice: contact the Maytag company. You contact local appliance repairmen and they will repair it at a cost of over $500. You offer the unit to the repairman for free; he declines. He suggests you check the online Consumer Affairs site. It is on that site that you realize the dead dishwasher belongs where one brings other dead things: the dump. I will NEVER buy another Maytag product. I would suggest no one else does either, unless you want to practice your skills in dealing with frustration or you want to throw $693.40 to the wind and watch it flit away helplessly. Thank you for reading this.
Maytag dishwasher mdb7749awm2 - It appears that everybody who bought one of these dishwashers has run into this issue at one time or another, and it usually takes one full year of use before the control panel goes out on these units, and in most cases, it has to do with moisture getting on the thin strip of wires leading from the control board to the control panel. It usually occurs right where the strip enters the control panel... There is nice little gap for moisture to rest right on the wires, which will eventually lead to corrosion. I included an image of what to look for (see the nice black rust areas on the wires? That was my problem, and probably yours, too). If you have some very, very fine sandpaper, and have patience, then you can get the rust off the wire, but be very, very careful, or you could take the small thin wire off in the process! Ive made this repair myself to my unit, and I did it for one my friends machines (it was a Maytag, and his lasted two years, but had the same problem, too), and both had similar problems and right in the same spot! After removing the corrosion, the system worked great again. However, before hooking the unit up again, I sealed the area with some silicone to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Now, Im not saying that this is the problem that you are having, but its worth investigating, and dont be afraid to pull-off the front panel...its just held on with an adhesive and will go back on with no issues. Anyway, this could save one hundreds of dollars in repair costs. I hope that this helps.
Ive owned the stainless steel version of the Maytag dishwasher model MDB7749SBM purchased on Sept 6th 2013. July of 2014, my first control panel went out. Lights not responding. Was within the 1 year warranty period. Now, that panel is acting up again. I called Platinum Factory service and they wanted to charge me for a new panel and the labor. Well, I used a few choice words on how I felt and the customer service person said the part would be free. Well, nothings free as I scheduled a visit by the Platinum Factory Service. They of course call 5 times to make sure you are home. The day of the service, the tech calls me to see if Im home. I of course said I am... then, he goes to tell me the labor charge for him to come out and hourly rate will come to $189!!! I said screw it and dont bother. Maytags quality and engineering SUCK. Avoid them...
Purchased a Maytag dishwasher 1 1/2 years ago and the panel went out. I paid $550.00 for this item, wanted to get a nicer one hoping it would last. Of course they only have a year guarantee for parts and Labor. Will not buy another Maytag appliance again!!!
Bought the dishwasher (model MDB8969SDM0) at Lowes Burlington Canada beginning of September. After two months of use, the plastic pins and attachment to the drum, top rack broke and cracked in several places. Called Whirlpool Canada for repairs many times and got the run around, spent hours on the phone and still not resolved as of December 12, 2014. This model has a problem with the plastic and breaks continuously as seen by many reviews on the internet. The technician said that this is a problem with this newest model. I have now been waiting for over two weeks for the parts with no end in sight since they claim that the parts are back ordered. Called again today and was told that it would be another week to see if they can find the pieces. This is ridiculous, I paid over $ l,000 dollars for this model and it looks like now that I will not have it repaired by Christmas. Lowes refuses to help me because they have washed their hands since it broke after one month. I have been lied to many times by customer service at Whirlpool Canada. They claim that I am the first one to complain about this model yet the reviews on the internet are full with this issue. They say what you want to hear and do not seem to care at all. It is a disgrace, I feel totally cheated and robbed of my hard earned money. Maytag is no longer a good company for their appliances and service. I am starting to think that I am stuck with this machine and that they have literally robbed me of $ l,000. Shame on you Whirlpool and Maytag.
Weve got a 3 year old dishwasher thats stopped working. First some of the lights on the control panel wouldnt light up, now only one light will light up and it wont start at all. Maytag would be better served to stick with the older mechanical switches and settings if it cant manufacture reliable electronic control panels.
MDB7609AWB1 - I purchased this dishwasher about 14 months ago. Power on button will not light up. It seems this is a big problem with 100% of the Maytags and Im sure the Whirlpools. These cheap companies are having their products made in China to make bigger profits. The years of keeping your appliances for 10-15 is gone. Spend $650 and it doesnt even last 2 years before it breaks is totally ridiculous. Of course they wont fix it but they DO know about the problem. If enough people complain maybe consumers affairs will make them recall them. Send them letters, emails, flood their inbox, tell them youre pissed and will never buy a Maytag again. I hope they go out of business.
My wife & I purchased our Maytag dishwasher model # MDBH979SAB1 on 3/8/13 from homedepot.com. Approximately 24.5 months later our dishwasher experienced control panel light button malfunctions similar in description to the many other consumer complaints on this & other forums. I would like to share some additional information based on my research about this issue and possible fix. The source of Whirlpools control panel issue is design related. The issue is caused from moisture which induces oxidation on the Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) cable that is integrated with the control panel and connects via connector to the electronic control box. The issue usually manifests itself on the cable just where it bends coming out of the touch membrane panel. The oxidization of the FPC cable eventually creates electronic shorts or opens between the parallel traces thus causing the panel control lighted function problem which disables the dishwasher from being used. The cable, since integrated with the control panel, is not a separate replaceable part. In order to repair, the Whirlpool diagnostic action is to replace the entire control panel. I quickly learned after doing some online research about Whirlpools control panel issue that it extends back to at least 2011 with control panel part # W10475784 and corresponding or like PNs of this design. The number of control panels sold of this design by various online appliance part centers coincide with the high number of reported like control panel failures. In just 2015 alone so far, the sales for this control panel have been in the hundreds. This indicates that Whirlpool continues to replace defectively designed control panels upon failure with defectively designed control panels. There was also a class action lawsuit filed against Whirlpool in the state of California on May 6th, 2013 for the control panel issue. The filed lawsuit is public & the whole document is available online as a pdf file. Unfortunately, Judge **, granted Stipulation to Dismiss Case with prejudice 74 on 5/23/14. I was unable to find out any details as to why the case was dismissed. I did not call Whirlpool about my control panel issue, instead I handled all correspondence through Email to them at WHIRLPOOL_CUSTOMEREXPERIENCE@WHIRLPOOL. COM.My initial correspondence included all the facts about this issue & that I did not wish to have their warranty coverage/period explained to me for I understood them, the problem was a quality issue, and just basically wanted to know what they were going to do or have been doing about resolution. The email correspondence with them got me nowhere. They initially replied back with all the form niceties like We apologize, We understand your frustration, & We value you as a customer, but denied every knowing about such control panel issue, regurgitated their warranty policy & period and were unwilling to resolve anything. In their last reply they stated how unfortunate it was that customers only take the time to provide negative feedback!! This is just bad business, and though I would not like to think it, but the control panel issue may have been by marketing design. Please keep in mind that Whirlpool manufactures appliances under at least 15 different name brands including Maytag, Kenmore, Admiral Kirkland, KitchenAid, Roper, Speed Queen to name a few. All is not lost, being an electronics engineer I looked into the do it yourself fix. If you are not comfortable in doing this, you may be able to find someone to help. I was able to repair mine by carefully scraping off the oxidation from the FPC cable (will appear brown in color) & encapsulating it with high density 100% dampening silicon (non-caulk type) to protect it from moisture & withstand heat. There can be other ways of protecting it from moisture instead of silicon, just make sure it can withstand heat, wont become brittle, & that it may not cause potential damage to the cable itself. My repair has worked for about 4 weeks now, & shows no sign of oxidizing. The problem may be more severe if the oxidation has actually opened or broke one or more of the small cable traces. Do not attempt to solder this cable! Its way too thin & will only make matters worse. An open can be carefully bridged with a conductive glue or ink thats on the market. One source is a window defogger repair kit product thats sold at auto stores that has a conductive glue in it. Post open repairs will need to be checked with an ohm meter to make sure repair is good and that any adjacent trace lines have not been shorted by repair. Of those of you that have just bought or had installed Whirlpools defective control panel, please encapsulate the FPC cable as soon as possible to protect it from moisture. If you dont, it will surely oxidize again over time.
I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing my dishwasher. I have used it 40 times max. The control board went out. They want 307.00 to fix it. Really? Why would I fix this piece of crap when I can buy a cheap one for that price that would work better. Ridiculous! I paid good money for this dishwasher and the warranty that comes with this is a joke. Save your money and brand from a company that stands behind their product.
I always purchased Maytag products but no more. After 16 months of ownership of the MDB7749SAM1. For the last three weeks I have been washing my dishes by hand. This unit has so many defects that it should be recalled. Sick of buying parts!!!
Purchased 2/13. Used maybe 3 times per week. Panel has gone haywire 6/14. 3 months out of warranty. Confirmed, bad control panel. We need class action lawsuit. This is ridiculous! Same issue with hundreds, likely many more unreported of dishwashers from Frigidaire/Maytag. I found number to law firm preparing suit... **.
I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher #MDB7749SBM1 as part of a complete kitchen remodel less than 3 years ago. Maytag was a great product years ago so I thought I would switch from GE to Maytag thinking that I had purchased a quality set that would give me years of great service! What a bad choice to say the least! This dishwasher has never dried the dishes completely with heated dry option. I never cared for the plastic latch and metal catch option either since I caught water dripping from the bottom since the door must not have been completely shut even though the latch was secure. Most recently, the start option on the flat control panel will not work. After opening and closing door multiple times I can get the start option to light up and run the cycle. Added bonus to start option not working correctly is that when the dishwasher door is shut, it automatically runs hours later with no human interaction. The dishwasher lights were lit up like a Christmas tree at 7 am this morning and running a cycle. Guess it thought the dishes werent clean enough. I am going to price out a board and determine whether I will throw this piece of crap in the dumpster and find a different brand! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DONT BUY A MAYTAG DISHWASHER!
My husband and I are very disappointed and upset about our new Maytag Dishwasher model MDB8949SBM. We only have had this dishwasher a little over a year! We purchased in May of 2014 and in June 2015 the control panel lights were acting crazy. Actually I even think it started earlier but just thought it was me pushing buttons wrong and wasnt that bad. Then in June any button you push on would not even light up!! I have stopped using dishwasher since June and now it is October! I was so done trying to push the right cycle that I wanted! I will never purchase another Maytag ever!! Just saw there is a Lawsuit here California. Yes!! But I have not seen any information yet on this lawsuit. I am calling Maytag!
Bought a Maytag dishwasher model MDB7749AWM2 on 02 Jan 2012 with no issues whatsoever until three days ago when it stopped working altogether and after doing a series of tests I discovered that Im joining a large and growing list of owners with the same problem. I never have been a fan of digital controls due to their vulnerability to temperature and humidity conditions or high impacts for that matter. Ive owned many dishwashers of various brands for upwards of 10 years on average each. This is the first one not equipped with analog/mechanical controls. Im hoping I can still find more of that type.
I bought a Maytag dishwasher less than two years ago. The Maytag repairman just informed me that the control panel, the control board and the harness were burnt and needed to be replaced with parts costing over $300. I said, No, thanks. I paid him the $99 service call fee and called Maytag to see if they would help. Nope, they pretty much said, tough luck.
Maytag/Whirlpool dishwasher control panel FAILURE MDB7749SAM - Just like all the above comments about this dishwasher... I too have been a victim. Control panel stopped working after 1 1/2 years. Turned on by itself like other have commented and will not let you push any buttons. Maytag/Whirlpool refuses to do anything about this at all and will cost me over $250 to fix an appliance I purchased at $499. How disgraceful of a company to not stand by their product... A huge shame on you Maytag/Whirlpool for not standing behind your product. If anyone knows of a way to get involved with a class action suit against this company I would like to get in on it.
I bought the dishwasher (Model MDB7749AWM) 15 months ago and paid $490.00. I had to put a new console in it ($245.00) on 07/16/2012. So that’s $735.00. Two days ago, the console went out again! I’m not putting $245 more in it! I called Maytag’s office. They more or less told me that was my problem! I am throwing that piece of junk away! And I’m buying a different brand. Maytag does not stand behind their product. Last Maytag I will buy! Warning! Do not buy Maytag!
In 2011 we purchased a complete appliance grouping at Home Depot by Maytag to include the dishwasher. For some reason we neglected to purchase an extended warranty on the dishwasher. Lo and behold in 2013 our control panel went bad and the cost to repair it was almost as much as purchasing a new dishwasher. Thinking this was a fluke we were dumb enough to purchase another Maytag from Home Depot due to the loyalty made in the USA. Well here we are 2015 not even a full two years later the control panel started acting funny a few days ago and yesterday just plain old QUIT. Fortunately we were wise enough to purchase an extended warranty plan on this dishwasher so tomorrow we will be calling the repairman. Unfortunately Maytag has never solved the problem that has been occurring for at least 5 years and continues to sell this product to unsuspecting schmucks like us who try to be true to the made in the USA slogan. Shame on Maytag!!! Our model number is MDB7749SBM. Buyers beware.
I bought a Maytag dishwasher (MDB7749SBM) and 1 yr and 4 months the control panel went out and all Maytag would do is tell me that they will pay for the parts, and I have to pay for the labor. I remember when Maytag had the best Warranty on their appliances. I am very disappointing with paying for labor. They also offer an extended plan of $269.00 for a year. What a joke!!!
I have owned this dishwasher about four years. After about three years the control panel malfunctioned and had to be replaced. Six months later I had to replace the controller. After another six months the control panel has again failed. Rather than invest more money in this beast, I have decided to replace it with what I hope is a more reliable machine. This experience has definitely put a bad taste in my mouth about Maytag products. I’m afraid this will be my last purchase of a Maytag product.
Most every post about Maytag/Whirlpool dishwashers reads the same. Mine is no different. The control panel on my model MDB7749SBM1 has failed after about 16 months of use. Its a lose-lose situation for the consumer, as the cost of parts and labor for the repair equals or eclipses the replacement cost of a new unit.Another fine example of the degradation of an American brand, once known for quality and reliability. Dont be fooled by the branding. Buyer beware!
Do NOT purchase a Maytag dishwasher. What happened to the Maytag repairman being so lonely. Now he has lots of company in the way of angry consumers. Purchased a Maytag dishwasher and less than a year later the control panel failed. It was still under warranty but the service person just tweaked it instead of replacing it. Now, less than a year later it has failed and will cost over $200 to replace and repair. This is disgusting.
I bought my Maytag dishwasher on September 4, 2013. In August 2014 the control panel went out. (Sound familiar?) The dishwasher was still under warranty, so I called Maytag. It took 3 tries to find a repair person who would come out on my schedule. (Im a teacher and cant take time off.) They installed the new control panel, and it working. I tried to submit a review on Maytags website, but my review was denied. I guess they didnt want to hear the truth.
I purchased a Maytag dishwasher (Model No. MDB8949SBWO) in September of 2013. Within the first year (and under warranty) the control module failed. The dishwasher is now almost two years old and the second control module has failed. From other postings it is obvious that Maytag has a known defect in their control units. To replace control modules on an annual basis makes this an extremely expensive dishwasher to own.
Model MDB7749SBM1, Complete FALSE ADVERTISEMENT and GARBAGE. Let me explain. Maytag clearly claims this dishwasher is stainless steel on the inside and out... FALSE, BOGUS CLAIM. Please check for yourself, tried a magnet to it everywhere and the magnet stuck everywhere. I have had this dishwasher for 15 months. The keypad frequently stuck. When I called Maytag, they told me if its usable, there is no defect. 15 months after purchase and 3 months after WARRANTY ran OUT on Thanksgiving Day with 25 guest. The keypad finally quit for good. I called the Friday afterward and was told no service for a week. I called and received local service but they told me it would need a keypad, which I waited to call on Monday since Maytag is closed on weekends how ironic. I was told they wont cover anything since a certified person didnt come out even though nothing was ever fixed and they blatantly lied to the consumer. Tried to sell me an extended service plan. I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE AND WHEN IM IN LOWES OR HOME DEPOT, I WILL TELL EVERYONE IN THERE SHOPPING THE SAME THING, DONT BUY MAYTAG IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD FOR YOU.
Pump motor went out after two years and all Maytag would do was a small discount on cheaper model. We paid over $800 for the dishwasher and to fix it was over $500 plus the 5 minute service call of over $100. Very poor customer service and a lemon of a dishwasher. Now we have a GE.
Perfectly great, cleans anything, not terribly quiet, but results are more than satisfactory. Good water pressure, cleans every nook and cranny, things come out spotless. I do not have anything else to compare, but I think the size is fine, I can put a lot of stuff in it. Controls in front at top, easy to use, clean appearance. Even though my dishwasher is 13 years old, I have not had any trouble with it. The top racks are strong and hold a good bit of glasses, cups and bowls. I have put baking pans, cookware, grates, and a lot of other stuff in to wash and it all came out clean.
So we purchased a whole package in sept 2014 for our newly constructed home. In Nov we received the CO and thats when everything was finally professionally installed. After its first wash the dishwasher broke and there was a flood in the house and soaked 20% of the newly installed high quality cabinets. We cleaned up everything and called Maytag to have someone inspect it to see what needs to be fixed. The gentleman came about a week or two later and said that the machine isnt worth fixing and to try to get Maytag to replace the whole machine, but he still listed all the parts that were needed to fix it. We tried calling Maytag and said what the repairman said but they said he must fix it and they will not provide a new one. So we wait for the parts and no one calls us. We follow up with Maytag and they say theyve ordered the wrong parts so it will take longer. We try calling the repair man and he doesnt call us back. Then call Maytag again and get them to call the repairman to see why he doesnt answer us. They told him to call us twice and every time he tells Maytag that hes called us and we dont pick up. So we tell Maytag hes lying, the repairman hasnt called us for weeks and Maytag doesnt give a **. And seems like this repairman is freaking lazy and doesnt want to work, even if hes paid for it. You know whats happening now? Chargeback! Thats right Maytag, screw you. When I do another house I will never buy Maytag again! Horrible service and a very defective product. I thought we were paying for quality!! They lost a customer that is faithful and doesnt mind paying extra. Hope everyone can take this into consideration before buying. I wish I wouldve seen these comments before...
Failed control panel Quiet Series 300 - After seeing countless notations on the net concerning failing touch panel and control boards, now my relatively new dishwasher has started its demise. It is terrible that so many people have the same problem. I sent an email to Maytag and have promptly been ignored. Unless it sets your house on fire, I guess they are not interested as I am no longer interested in supporting this product. It is nice that you can post such similar design failures for the world to see. Thanks Maytag!
Purchased this Maytag dishwasher from a local Home Depot in Feb. 2014, no problems until now in late July 2015 (about 18 months). The control panel is not responding. Start/Resume light is off, pressing it doesnt seem to do anything. Cancel light is off, pressing it does trigger the cancel drain process. Wash Cycle choices either dont respond, or for 2 of the choices engage an incorrect cycle. Option choices dont respond.Delay light comes on when an incorrect cycle choice displays but stays at 2 hours, can not be toggled off or to a different delay length. Holding Control Lock or Delay for 3 seconds doesnt seem to clear the circuit board logic. Problem began with the Cycle choice buttons defaulting to Rinse Only about three days ago. I assumed user error so let that cycle run, then was able to choose a different cycle (cant remember which one) which also completed. But since then the control panel behaves not at all or incorrectly as described above. Seems to be a common Maytag control board/panel problem, so will probably replace (with something other than Maytag) rather than repair.
Purchased in 2013, they have replaced the control panel twice in 2014 and AGAIN 2015, now WAITING for the replacement control panel AGAIN. Maytag claims there are no recalls on this dishwasher model number. But after reading all these reviews why is there not a recall. Maytag is of no help when you call. They claim as long as they keep replacing the control panel it still can be repaired. This can be extremely costly WHEN THE CONTROL CONSOLE PANEL keeps breaking. Obviously there is a major problem with this part and why is Maytag not recognizing this issue.
My Bravos XL is worthless!!! This lack of agitator design is totally ineffective. Dark clothes come out with white powder on them and I use the liquid detergent. Whites I soak with detergent and bleach then full wash cycle. Still stains on dish towels and socks. Never had a problem with the old agitator Maytag. And yes the wrinkle free cycle creates wrinkles. Deep water wash is only cycle that even comes close to cleaning and its far from perfect. Horrible waste of money, buyers beware!!! I thought all those negative reviews were overblown and since I couldnt find a large enough machine with an agitator, I ignored warnings and bought this garbage. Matching dryer is fine.
We purchased a Maytag dishwasher, Model #MDB7749, in the belief that it was a quality product. Many initial reviews were positive. Unfortunately, that decision was a mistake. The washer is only three years old and the control panel has failed. We are unable to select wash cycles. It defaults to Auto Clean/Heated Dry only. The washer has been lightly used.An online search found numerous complaints for control panel problems with this Maytag dishwasher. Please check ConsumerAffairs, Amazon, or Maytags own Facebook (Maytag was forced to create the Facebook page in 2010 under a mandate from the Consumer Product Safety Commission after a recall of dishwashers for fire hazards) before making any decision to buy a Maytag/Whirlpool appliance. It would also be wise to purchase an extended warranty. Our Whirlpool clothes washer failed after 5 years (bearings + controls). We cant afford to replace a major appliance every three to five years. The estimated cost to repair the dishwasher is $300 - $400. Maytag/Whirlpool customer service is indifferent to helping its customers. Its disappointing to see a made in America company produce such poor quality products and not support them.
Great dishwasher. The dishwasher heat cycle doesnt dry the dishes but I havent read the instructions yet. This is a large dishwasher holding lots of dishes. Dishes are clean after the cycle. Washes lots of dishes at the same time. Has handy utensil pull out to put away your utensils after dry.
We bought a Maytag dishwasher on 9/22/2012. Model number MDB7759SAB. Within the past couple of months, it has been very temperamental. The control panel started beeping continuously and some of the functions wouldnt work anymore while others continued to work too well; in that the dishwasher on occasion would rewash several times without anyone starting the machine again. The dishwasher also started leaking water... As of yesterday, the dishwasher control panel stopped responding and then out of the blue, the dishwasher turned itself on in the middle of the night! We called customer service and they said they could send a repairman out for around $89 and then we would have to pay for the parts needed and the cost of labor. After reading many reviews sounding exactly the same as mine, my husband and I are against repairing this lousy machine. Its absolutely ridiculous for a dishwasher to quit unexpectedly like this. Our question now is, which brand to purchase for our next dishwasher? No more junk please!!
Dishwasher is around two-three years old and it will not start or drain. From what I can tell on the internet, this touch-pad control panel has been an ongoing problem for Maytag. Will try to fix myself, and if I cant fix it, I will buy a new dishwasher but not a Maytag. By the way, my washer and dryer both went out this year - five years old and both are Maytags. Stay away from this brand.
Maytag dishwasher from Home Depot, model MDB7749SBM1. Bought it last May from Home Depot - in a little more than one year it has already needed 2 repairs to the control panel. We are having a lot of problems finding someone to come and repair it. We want our money back. This is a piece of junk!
Control Panel MDB8949SBB - I purchased my dishwasher in August of 2013. The control panel has stopped working and Maytag refuses to discuss the issue with us. Regardless of how many complaints they receive they are in denial about their product. They now offer a Repair +1 program which costs $260 for a repair and an additional 1 year warranty. If I do that I will get 1 year out of it before I run into the same problems. Any ideas?
Maytag needs to step up and admit that they have a design flaw in this dishwasher. The problem is that just a week or two after the warranty is out, it just stops working. Sometimes when you walk by it, it just turns on. No way to turn it off. Nothing works on the control panel. From what Ive seen on the internet, everybody is having the same problem. Its the control panel. It costs 180 dollars to fix, but it only lasts another year and you have the same problem. Ill have to say that when it works, it does a superb job. It just wont keep working.
My fiance bought this dishwasher 5 years ago but has never been able to use it due to the fact he is disabled and unable to open the door. When I moved in 4 months ago, I began using it regularly 2-3 times a week. Yesterday, I loaded it and when I hit the start button, it did nothing. The lights come on but the start button doesnt seem to be working. I have torn it apart twice and after looking all over the internet have determined that the control panel is bad. We live on a very fixed income and fixing something like this will take a large part of our budget. I am shocked that something so expensive can only last a few months then stop with no warning. We will be calling and adding our names to the list for the class action lawsuit here in California.
IT A GOOD DISHWASHER, BUT I HAVE HAD 2 PROBLEMS WITH THE CONTROLS AND HAD THE CONTROL PANEL REPLACED. TWICE. The insurance I bought with the machine, sent me a jerk to fix it, I complained and they sent a good repairman.
We purchased this set 6 months ago. The store we purchased it from is unwilling to help us. Maytag insists there is nothing wrong with the washing machine. The machine doesnt clean the clothes. After a wash cycle there is pet fur and lint all over the clothes, even after it comes out of the dryer. The clothes are all twisted in tight knots when the load is done. The washing Machine doesnt dispense enough water to wash. I have taken clothes out of the washer and the items are dry in spots, most times you can smell the mustiness of a dish towel after its been washed.I used the steam clean dryer to fresh in up the curtains and the panels came out different lengths. Not eager to try that feature again. This is our 2nd dryer set purchase, the last set was 10 yrs old. I couldnt find anyone willing to repair it. I was told they dont make machines like they used to and they are all designed to last 10 yrs and you’re lucky if it lasts 15 yrs. Yes, we contacted Maytag and yes, like the many other folks who have shared their stories we also got the run around. Sad to say we are going to do our research and will be looking for a new machine. Im going to shamefully donate the set to a charitable organization and use the receipt as a tax write off. IF you’re doing your research, DO NOT BUY A MAYTAG.
I bought my Maytag dishwasher in February 2011. It seemed like a good model - basic functions, upper spray arm, stainless interior. Well this dishwasher has been all downhill since I got it. First it is cheaply made. The racks and plastic stoppers on the racks immediately started falling apart. The one year after we installed it the front control panel went out, rendering the dishwasher completely useless! The warranty had just run out! To my pleasant surprise, I received an extended warranty offer from Sears. Had the front panel replaced and it started working again.... but apparently it is a bad design and it is likely to happen again. After reading online I am not the only one with this problem. Now another year later we are having a the sprayer on the top and the back hose replaced..... (still waiting for sears to install). It makes grinding sounds, leaves white marks, doesnt clean.... it is a non-stop battle with this product. Upon calling Maytag, they said they could give me advice but cant pay for any parts or even give me a coupon towards a new product! I have tried everything with this dishwasher - fancy soap, cleaning solutions, jet dry... its not me, its Maytag! I will likely be in the market to buy another dishwasher next year because of all the issues, and it for sure will not be a Maytag.
I bought a new Maytag dishwasher 9 months ago from Costco - Maytag 24 in. Built-in Dishwasher with PowerBlast Cycle, White. This dishwasher needs a new motor - Please do not buy this dishwasher. It is garbage.
We bought this dishwasher on 7/8/2013 which is my wifes birthday and boy was that a mistake in many ways! I had 5 service calls on my Maytag Dishwasher MDB7749SBM1 before it went out of warranty. It has issues with the ribbon cable and controller and the control lights are like a disco on the keypad. Now it gets so hot I cant touch the door when its running. So I have had to turn off the power and go get a new dishwasher next weekend which WILL NOT be a Maytag!
Well, I thought I was buying quality products dishwasher and refrigerator and both are very disappointing. Of course the Maytag dishwasher (MBD7749AWB2) really upsets me since I just bought it in Aug of 2011. Now it will not finish a load of dishes and I did what the lady at Maytag told me. She said it was the control board. But it is not the control board. It is still working the same as it was. Now what should I do? When they said I had a 10year warranty I didnt think a known product like Maytag would let me down. MAYTAG, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCTS TO LASTS! THEY SUCK!
Do not buy a Maytag dishwasher with model # MDBH969AWB1. I bought this dishwasher last Dec. 2010. I could not use it for 2 weeks, because the door would not shut. The repair man came & fixed the door. Then when I actually got to use it and after it finished running the cycle, the tub was dripping with water all over--top, sides, door, bottom. I had to dry the dishes on the top rack, and I had to leave the door open for days in order for the inside to eventually get dry. The first thing I noticed about this dishwasher when it was installed was that it was smaller than my other dishwasher. I hate the design because of the way they have made the racks plus because it is smaller--it holds less dishes than my old one did. I could actually get almost twice as many dishes in my old one than I can with this one. Do they not think of asking the consumer about what they want in a dishwasher instead of going ahead and making something that is not functional?I am so frustrated with this thing; it has brought me to tears. I just today went to Sears and looked at their Kenmore dishwasher. It is designed more like my old one than any of the other makes out today. I wish I had checked this out, before I bought this Maytag. Weve always heard how Maytag is at the top of the line with no problems, right? Dont believe it. I will never buy another one. Whoever is designing these dishwashers need to go back to 1990 and take a look at how it was designed and then go back to making them like that. I loved my older dishwasher, and I wish I had never let them take it away. I wish I had taken the money I spent on this ridiculous Maytag and had my old one fixed no matter what the cost. I made a terrible mistake. If you have an older dishwasher and it has given you good service for years, I suggest you have it fixed and keep it, because you will not like the performance of what they are selling today. It does not matter what brand you buy, they are all designed the same. Just take a look and compare them. But if you buy, please check out the Kenmore. I dont know if the performance is better, but the racks are better designed. My old dishwasher was a Hotpoint. It was the cheapest one on the market, and it gave me the most wonderful service ever. The dishes were always very clean, the heating element was fantastic, and it always dried the dishes completely. I cant believe they would make a product like they do today and sell them for what they do. The heating element in them today is not as good or strong as what they used to make. That is why the dishes wont dry properly. You get way less than what you pay for. Thinking a new dishwasher is the way to go, think again. Please, if at all possible, keep your old one and have it fixed over & over again. I hate this dishwasher. What a joke on the unsuspecting buyer.
I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 2019 in Home Depot for my new home. The dishwasher stopped washing dishes after two years and 6 months. The price of the new machine was 700$ and I did not buy the extended warranty. The trouble is circulation pump, that cost to install the new one from local service would be about 350$ plus the new pump 150$. I consider quality is very poor if the new dishwasher works only two years and then it is better to buy a new item than fix the old one. Never never buy Maytag production.
I have a Maytag washing machine (MDBTT53AWW1). The total cost is $524 for machine plus installation. And the cost of yearly repair on this machine is $300.I purchased this machine a year and 10 months ago in January 2010. A few months ago, the control panel started to only light up partially but the washing machine continued to run. A few days ago, when i tried to turn on the machine, it would not work--the control panel was no longer lighting up. I called a repair man recommended by Lowes, and after explaining the problem over the phone, we scheduled a time for him to come (ten days later was his first available opening!).Ten days later with a broken washing machine and doing all the washing by hand, the repair man came late. When I made the appointment, I was told he would come anytime from 8 to 11 a.m., and of course, he did not show up until almost 1:00 pm. When he finally arrived, all he did was look at the model and determined instantly that the reason our control panel was no longer working was due to a faulty design. This dishwasher allows the steam to escape through a small vent placed to the left of the control panel. The steam inevitably causes a short circuit, meaning that this will be a reoccurring problem every year.He did not dismantle anything and was in my home for no more than 5 minutes. I was told the cost of a new control panel would be $141 plus his labor fee of $137. So all in all, if you purchase a Maytag appliance, the initial cost is irrelevant. If you purchase a Maytag appliance, you will spend almost $300 yearly to maintain it--basically the cost of a brand-new washing machine.Something needs to be done; this is unacceptable. The least Maytag could do is provide all of us, fools who believed in their product and thought that they were of quality, with a free10-year warranty for this faulty machine which is pre-determined to break down every year as a result of their poor design planning.Cost aside, what kind of world are we living in that major appliances are made to last just one year and then are to be thrown in the dump? There is no way I will pay $300 for the next ten years to maintain a product that is made to break. That is wasteful and disastrous for the environment. Shame on you, Maytag. You will be filling landfills around the country with your terrible products, and the world will be a worse place for it.
My Bravo washer does NOT clean my clothes. I have tried many detergents. I have to pre-treat all spots with dish soap and run hot water over and then rub the spots out. This was the only recommendation given after consulting with Maytag. I have to pre-soak my clothes in a pail of water with detergent. The water is brown. My clothes are dingy, spotted and have bleach spots. I am very careful so this is not from pouring into the bleach dispenser. Maytag was the reason I purchased this washer. Never again.
Purchased a Maytag Dishwasher (Serial # P33706417) in Sep. 2013. In the beginning was working fine. After a year and a half started having problems pushing the button to start, not starting. Had to wait a few hours then hit it again and all the lights would light up and then it would start washing. Then when done, some lights stayed on and never went off. Then a month or 2 later, same problem but only a couple of lights would go on and when done 2 lights would blink continuously. After several months now, none of the lights are working and cant get dishwasher to start. Called a tech and he said the control board and the touchpad were not working. Would cost me over $400 plus shipping, etc. to for new. Very frustrated with Maytag, as we havent even gotten 2 years out of this dishwasher and the 1 year warranty has expired. DONT BUY A MAYTAG!!!
We loved the Maytag dishwasher when we first bought it. After about 5 years it started leaking. Had rubber gasket replace, only held up 2 years. This was the only problem.
Bought a dishwasher about 2 years ago, through Home Depot. After it was installed, contacted Maytag to let them know that it didnt seem to be working correctly. They sent out a repairman, who looked at the machine, and then told us that with the new eco friendly settings, it would be best to let the dishes dry overnight. It seems that the company and its employees dont know [or care] about the product. Contacted their service/helpline to let them know that the screws on the insides of the latch [on the cover] are NOT screwing into anything, they come loose. Person couldnt find same in his system, finally sent screw, but they were the wrong size and didnt work. Just opened the dishwasher this AM, after washing the dishes last night. 12 hours later and they still are not dry. This isnt eco, this is something that is wrong that Maytag doesnt want to address. Buy something else!!!
MDBH979SAM0 - Bought this dishwasher from Home Depot 2 years ago and have taken care of it, never abused it or anything. All of a sudden it just starts freaking out, once you start a cycle it will wash and then rewash and then keep going costing us money on electricity, water and wear and tear on the machine. Ive tried everything but it seems like its just stuck in start mode. The indicator lights on the panel flip out too, they will all blink randomly. So when I close the dishwasher and dont intend to start any cycles and it is off it will start up all on its own so Ive had to unplug it. Funny how I called to order a control panel part and its on back order... Very interesting how they are out of this part probably because everyones ordering it.
Maytag dishwasher MDB7749SBM2 - I purchased this unit from Home Depot. It worked fine when working. In less than two years the control panel had issues. Would not let you start cycle, would randomly start on its own, would light up randomly, would only let one cycle work, would not work at all, etc. I received no help from Maytag. After open up the door panel the problem is obvious. The ribbon cable from touch (control) panel to control board had black spots from corrosion. Poorly insulated or poor design. $150 for part and another $100+ for repairman. As Ive seen from several of these posts it appears to be a common problem now to Maytag, which they choose to ignore in spite of class action lawsuits. Obviously last Maytag product Ill ever buy.
We upgraded and purchased a new Maytag Dishwasher Quiet Series 300 MDBH955AWQ to benefit our new kitchen remodel. Initially, the dishwasher worked great. I routinely insist on keeping the filters and interior clean as I was raised up believing that if you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you. Very shortly after purchase, there was a fire recall which was taken care of by Maytag and a third party contractor. Then as time went on, it continuously rendered out dishes with debris and food on them. Then it stopped working. It turned out the latch or door handle broke on the pivot point on the interior of the door. I got that replaced and everything was good again. Then about three months later, of course after warranty, it would not start or anything. I verified power and connections and nothing. I spent about $60 on JustAnswer for further advice and the answer was to replace the control board. After about $250 for a service call and $130 additional, it turned out the control board went out. I observed how it appeared to be a poor design due to the control board being exposed to all of the humidity and other moisture from within the dishwasher door. Then after that being fixed, about six months later, the door latch broke again. Its minor enough that you may not realize its broken until you open the door panel back up again. The plastic is breaking Im sure due to the heat and moisture, but its just minor enough that it will not make contact to indicate the door is closed. I got that replaced again for another $140. Four months of that getting fixed and Im getting the same result, no functionality at all from the control panel. In other words, the control board is out again!Ive spent almost as much in repairs that I have for the dishwasher in the first place. As many have stated before, why are we not getting quality products anymore? I went to the Maytag website to see if there were any other additional recalls for this dishwasher, and the recall site was down, so I called. The lady on the phone, as pleasant as she was, indicated that the recall for the heater coil was already performed, which I already knew. I asked, due to the other problems Ive had and money Ive spent, if there were any additional recalls, and of course the reply was no. Im used to staying with a reputable company and providing loyalty to that company for quality products and service, even if I have to spend more initially in order to spend less overall. Obviously, Maytag is now out of the question for future business or referrals. This dishwasher is getting replaced before I put one more dime into it.
Similar to dozens of others, we purchased a Maytag dishwasher from Home Depot in March 2011. Recently, it stopped working, dead - no lights, no action. Called Maytag and they referred me to a Maytag Repairman: Coastline Appliance Service of Huntington Beach, CA. The serviceman came out and spent 20 minutes, checked the door switch for continuity, and declared the control panel bad. How do you know its the control panel, I asked. Its my gut feel, based on experience, he said! He charged me $129 for the visit and said a new control panel would cost $380! After reading other posts online, I can only conclude that a new control panel (if that is, indeed, the problem) will also go bad in the next year or two. So, like so many others, were off to buy a new dishwasher - and we will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool appliance again.
I am about to replace the control panel on my Maytag dishwasher (MDB7749SAM1) for the second time since purchasing it in 2012. Additionally, I have replaced the door gasket twice, as it becomes loose and does not properly seal, causing water to leak from the door during the wash cycle. There are many documented complaints of corrosion on the control panel ribbon cable necessitating replacement of the entire unit. If there were a way to replace the ribbon cable instead of the entire panel, it might be a bit easier to swallow the repair expense. Either way, it is ridiculous to have to spend almost 1/3 the original cost of the dishwasher to make it usable again, and twice in only 5 years time! My previous dishwasher was 30 years old and still functioning (though noisily) when I replaced it with this expensive lemon. I have not contacted Maytag, as it is not in warranty, however, it seems that a major appliance should last longer than a couple of years without issues.
I purchased a Maytag dishwasher Model # MDB4949SDE1 from Home Depot April 30th 2015. This dishwasher does not clean the dishes no matter what cycle you use. After 4 hours and 29 minutes I open the dishwasher to find residue on my so-called clean dishes. Every time I use it I have to re-wash or rinse the dishes by hand before I can put them away.I have spoken with Maytag on several occasions concerning this matter. I have used every detergent on the market. Maytag says you have to use jetdry, and liquid detergent which I did and it made no difference. The latest suggestion was that the water from my water heater was not hot enough which is set on 140 degrees. The customer service rep. ask me how far the water heater is from the dishwasher and I replied approximately 14 foot. She suggested I turn the faucet to my sink on before I turn the dishwasher on so that the hot water is present as soon as I turn it on. This also did not work. They sent a kid out today that turn the dishwasher on for five minutes empty and said well everything seems to be working properly. I dont know what to tell you, yet there is soap residue in the bottom of the dishwasher right now. Do not purchase this dishwasher. It does not clean the dishes. It just uses power and water.
I find this Maytag dishwasher just ok, nothing special. It doesnt seem to clean any better or worse than other dishwashers I have had or used in the past. It also seems to get really slimy under the inside of the door.
I have a basic Maytag dishwasher circa 2012. Not sure of the model number. It works well, no fancy features but everything you really need is there. My only real complaint is that the heat dry cycle always seems to leave the dishes a little wet, but thats common enough for dishwashers. It cleans nicely and hasnt had any issues or breaks in 3+ years. Basic. Three wash cycles (light, normal, heavy); Extra rinse option, extra hot option, and heat dry or eco-dry (i.e. no dry). Nice big rinse aid dispenser. Its not that roomy inside. Id say the size is average. It looks nice - its white and unobtrusive. It works really well with Cascade dish pods. The bottom rack is kind of a pain if your plates are curved more than usual.
In 2011, I purchased 2 Maytag dishwashers, one for my tenant and one for myself. In 2014, the circuit board on my tenants dishwasher failed, when the unit was only 3 years old and of course out of warranty. I first contacted a local repair person, and he informed me that the repair plus service would be close to $300. When I contacted the company, after about an hour on the phone, they agreed to send their authorized repair service person and after his evaluation, would repair the unit with no charge to me, as a courtesy. This whole process took about 2-3 weeks. I felt that was fair. It is now 2015, and my unit, which I purchased at the same time and the same type, now is not working due to a faulty circuit board. My tenant uses her dishwasher more frequently, and that is most likely why her circuit board went first. This is a design flaw, or perhaps planned obsolescence. At any rate, Im not happy with this, and my model is mdb7809awb2, and serial # is FO4205659. Do you know if there have been any other complaints on this? Thank you for your help.Updated on 07/30/2015: After I wrote my review, I contacted Maytag about the problem. After considerable wait times, I spoke to someone who set up a diagnostic repair call, giving me the impression that Maytag would cover it. When the repair company called, they told me that I would be charged $104.95 just for diagnostics. Labor and parts would be additional. I called Maytag again, and they agreed to let the repair company charge back the diagnostic fee. After diagnosing the problem, it was determined the problem was the control panel and not the circuit board. The cost to repair with tax came to $315.85 and it was only this low because the repair company waived the return service trip. I can get a new dishwasher for a little over $400.00. I am very disappointed in Maytag, because I remember the commercials where the Maytag repair man was bored because the products were so dependable they never broke. My unit is only 4 years old, and its sad that it costs so much to repair it.
A year or so after purchasing our new home, we purchased new appliances. We thought Maytag was a good company to go with. We had serious issues with our 2005 Maytag bottom-drawer freezer refrigerator right off the bat. It arrived with a large dent in the door. They offered to take $50.00 off the price. We insisted on one without a dent. They replaced the refrigerator, and shortly after, the board and the ice-maker went out right away.Although the parts were under warranty, we had to pay for the labor. The refrigerator is 6 years old and now it is making a constant knocking sound. We paid a lot of money for what we thought was a quality appliance. What a joke. We had also bought a new Maytag washer and dryer set and they fell apart after 5 years. It’s the same with the Maytag dishwasher. Do not buy Maytag appliances. They are cheap. They fall apart. The customer service is poor. I feel cheated.
I purchased an appliance package of washer dryer, refrigerator and dishwasher. All of the appliances needed many repairs. It took four icemakers in the fridge before it actually was fixed. The worst appliance was the dishwasher it was repaired every three months for six years! Washer and dryer died after five years.
I purchased a Maytag dishwasher in March 2005. About every 8 to 12 months since Ive owned it, the control panel malfunctions and needs to be replaced. I was told by the repairmen (similar to the many other postings below) that the malfunction is due to a faulty design where warm moisture shorts out the electronic control panel. For a few years, I paid for a service contract. But this seemed quite unfair, given the regularity of the same malfunction. Given that this is such a common problem, isnt there some responsibility by Maytag? This is clearly a faulty design. What about the legal responsibility for a recall? Is it possible that, together with other aggrieved owners, a lawsuit against Maytag would be the appropriate action?
This is a dishwasher purchased at Home Depot on March 25, 2012 for a rental unit... call from tenant said the dishwasher did not work. Repair person from Appliance Hospital went out today and said the control panel is out and the touch pad. Cost is over $500 to replace. I will have to replace this dishwasher BUT NOT WITH ANOTHER MAYTAG.
I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 9/2006. I was happy with it until 12/10 when it smoked and almost caught fire in the middle of the night! Luckily, I have a GFI circuit breaker and it shut the dishwasher off before it burned my house down. After researching on Google, I found out that my dishwasher had been recalled as a fire hazard, and I was never notified by Maytag. I called Maytag from my house phone and the automated system knew my name and address immediately just by me calling -- so they could have easily notified me but they chose not to.I ended up getting a voucher to purchase a new dishwasher (model: MDB7709AWB2). The one year warranty has literally just expired, and the Start/Resume, and the Cancel/Drain buttons no longer work. The replacement parts from Maytag cost $212.37, and that price does not include the price to get it installed from a service technician -- add on another $100-$200 depending on where you live. This is a known problem, and seems to repeat yearly! Another annoying thing about this dishwasher is the wheels on the racks. They dont glide easily and they constantly get off the track. I hate this dishwasher and I will never purchase another product from Maytag/Whirlpool/Jenn-Air again!
We purchased a high-end stainless steel interior/exterior unit in January 15. It is now July 15 and we have not been able to get any use out of it. Day 1 washer leaked. Full day off for service. Guy told us we were using the wrong soap. It leaked on the very next wash. Called again. They forgot to check the soap dispenser. Another service/day off. Leaked again! Another service call/day off. They replace the dispenser & seal. Now washer no longer leaks but the dishes are dirty and wet even days later. Another service call. Another new part. And now we are waiting for our 5th service call. We paid for a new unit and have a refurbished cobbled together piece of junk. Maytag stubbornly refuse to replace this unit.
MDB8959SBB. Purchased this Maytag dishwasher late December 2013 and had it professionally installed on January 4, 2014. Could have burned down the house this weekend! Smoke everywhere! Thank goodness it was running during the day and not night so that we were able to shut off the power. Lights in the kitchen were blinking and smoke pouring out of the dishwasher. The house still smells of smoke. So disappointing. Ive always been a proud owner of the Maytag products. Never again. Especially after reading the reviews. Interesting enough, THIS dishwasher was purchased because of a recall on the PREVIOUS Maytag dishwasher I had trouble with. They gave me a credit to use towards my next purchase. Ive learned my lesson.
I purchased the Maytag MDB8959SBS dishwasher back in 2014. I have historically been a Bosch guy when it comes to dishwashers but I have been so happy with my Maytag Maxima washer and dryer, I wanted to give their dishwasher a chance. Well, it has been a major disappointment, to say the least. For starters, it just doesnt clean that well. I am very careful in how I load a dishwasher. I do not put baking sheets across the bottom rack lol. Consistently we find dirty dishes. Then after about a 6 months, I noticed the paint on the adjacent cabinets were peeling in spots (near the top and bottom corners). I started feeling around the outside of the door during the wash cycle and there was a fair amount of moisture collecting around the outside of the dishwasher seal (or non-seal). Fast forward to about a month ago, I noticed a burning smell in the kitchen while it was running. Did the typical check the heating element routine thinking something fell down and was burning. However, it was perfectly clean. Emptied it completely and ran a totally empty load. The smell was still there. I eventually figured out the smell was emanating from the upper right corner of the door. Coincidentally this was right above the location of the control board. I grabbed a tool and carefully removed the front panel and discovered wires were melted (some fused together) and even the inside of the panel (which is plastic) was melted in spots as well.So yes, I could have contacted Maytag and sent pictures and fought with them over a repair but to be honest, I have no interest in keeping this appliance. It has been trouble since day one. Again, to be fair, I have had good luck with their other appliances but this was an awful experience and a total waste of money. I have since gone back to Bosch and could not be happier.
I have a Maytag dishwasher and the bottom rack has rusted out so that it cant hold dishes. The dividers break at the bottom. I was told by Maytag parts that this is a common problem and theyre hearing from a lot of consumers about this, but it will cost $196 to replace.I spoke with customer service who told me that dishwashers only last 8 to 10 years” and since mine is 8 years old, I should expect that it would rust. Thats unbelievable. They wont replace the rack, nor offer it at a discount.
I purchased our Maytag Dishwasher in 2014 (Model # MDB77495B) and after a little over a year, of course after the warranty had expired the panel started to act up. I did get it repaired costing over $300 for parts and service thinking all is well. The repairman that came out had to come out twice once to look at and then again to fix after the part came in. We had a conversation and he said that was common with this brand, the steam sometimes affects the panel. I spoke with Maytag about getting an extended warranty but after looking at the cost passed on it. Well now the panel is acting up again. If Maytag thinks I am going to have another repairman come out well think again. I will see how much the part cost and do it myself if it cheap enough, if not I guess Ill be back to washing dishes by hand for awhile. I bought this brand feeling that it was American made and the cost was on the expensive side that it would last. I am disappointed that this has happened again. For the money spent it should last at least 10 years. My old dishwasher that was given to me used lasted over 15 years with not one problem. Its a shame we cannot get good working appliances as we did back in the day.
We purchased a new Maytag dishwasher for $500 from Home Depot about 1 year ago... it stopped working 4 days ago. I did not get satisfaction from Maytag customer service as they tried to sell me a repair program whilst I was trying to determine if it was under warranty as it is a known problem. I now have a repair person coming out with a price of $189.95 + time. A complete joke of an organization. Lesson? Do NOT purchase any MAYTAG brand. They DO NOT stand by their product. My rating is ZERO STARS, the site forces me to enter a star which is ONE TOO MANY. I will NOT do business with Maytag, Whirpool or any of their brands again.
Our Maytag dishwasher is a work horse. Never a problem just runs and runs. Could be a little quiet quieter. But does a t great job cleaning. I would definitely buy another one and would recommend it to any one.
My dishwasher is one year old. It is very quiet and cleans well. Stainless steel makes it look great too. Efficient, energy saver dishwasher with great capacity and large utensil holder. This is the best dishwasher I have owned.
I bought my Maytag Dishwasher (mdbh979aww3) about two years ago and just last week, the control buttons on the right stopped working. I see on this site that someone else had the same problem and explained that the wires got corroded, so now Im not sure I even want to replace the part when it only worked for 2 years. Now Im stuck buying a new dishwasher.
On 8/26/16, we purchased a top-of-the-line Maytag dishwasher from Lowes of Palm Bay, Fl. It began leaking water out one side shortly after installation. Because of a hospitalization, we were not able to report the problem to Lowes until the first part of December. A repairman from Brandts in Sebastian, Fl. came out on 12/6/16 and said it might be the door gasket, but he did not have a new one with him and if it continued, to call back. I called again and another repairman from Brandts came out on 1/3/17. He said it was out of square and he took out 2 screws and said to cut back on detergent because too many suds could cause it to leak (which we find ludicrous). Now it leaks on both sides. This is not a small leak; it soaks the bath towel we put under the door. On 1/11/17 Brandts sent 2 repairmen out and they claimed we needed to cut way back on detergent and put in a capful of salad oil because our water softener is causing the suds which causes the leak. We now use 1/2 teaspoon of detergent and the capful of salad oil. It is still leaking. Our previous Kitchen Aid dishwasher never leaked and we used the recommended amount of detergent in it. We are apparently stuck with a brand-new dishwasher that cannot be fixed. We will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance.
We purchased a dishwasher (Maytag) two or three years ago. We have had nothing but trouble with it. The welds on the upper rack broke. The wheels on the low rack keep falling off. Water leak happened recently. The start button broke. My wife and I decided to just get a new one rather than keep sinking maintenance costs which are going to keep adding up.
In March 2014 I purchased all my kitchen appliances from Home Depot. Everything was Whirlpool except the dishwasher, a Maytag. The floor in my kitchen is wood, and I noticed that the finish was coming up in the area around the dishwasher. I called an accredited service company and the technician said the appliance was not level and proceeded to do that. Next, tech #2 - dishwasher not level, fixed it - different company. Tech #3 - dishwasher not level, fixed it, said perhaps I did not load the appliance properly and water splashed out! Dishwasher continued to leak, floor continued to warp. Came back as #4 and decided it was the control in door. Ordered new one, installed it - dishwasher leaked. Called Maytag at that point. They refuse to accept that it is defective merchandise, will not replace it on my word. They need a tech to certify that it is unfixable. Tune in tomorrow. This will be #5. My best advise at this time is Do Not Buy a Maytag appliance. They will not stand behind their products! Home Depot order # below.. Appliance model #MDB8959SBS.
I bought your Maytag model MDB7749SBW1 dishwasher on May 22, 2013. We bought Maytag because of your reputation...not because of price. However, in September, 2014 (2 months out of warranty!!), the control panel stopped working. I called the 800 number and the best they could do is to extend the warranty for 6 months BUT only after we paid for repair and control board replacement. This is not cheap!!! We were furious. I looked if there were recalls on this model but there is not (should be). Anyway, after we paid for repairs and a new control panel put in ($160.00 +- for part itself), we were very cautious about touching anything on that dishwasher. YOU HAVE an issue with design and I can give you link after link of other customers who have expressed the same thing. So, here we are in 2017... About 2 months ago, we noticed the exact same symptoms with the control board. In fact the ONLY way we could start the dishwasher was to turn off the breaker, let it sit for 20 minutes - overnight and then turn back on and hit the start button. We lost all control over the settings. Only auto clean and delay 2 hours were working. Yesterday, I purchased yet another control board ($179 incl tax and shipping). I plan to install myself. If I could afford another dishwasher, I would do it and never buy Maytag again. Maytag really ought to be ashamed and if they were truly concerned they would offer these defective parts at a steep discount or better yet, recall. I plan on submitting something about this issue with any consumer group I can find. I guess the only way to spread the word and perhaps force a company to respond is to post on social media anymore. This is NOT a like.
Hello, My recently purchased dishwasher has leaked water within less than half an hour of the fifth time to be used and showed error: F8E4, dishwasher model and SN are: Model: MDB4949SKZ. Serial # : FA3003347. Registered: 09/11/2021, Ive been calling Home Depot who in turn asked the installer to check the connection, and the latter advised and reported its a manufacturer issue. And calling Maytag for several times but no response or action. On-line service scheduling of Maytag is not working!!! And the live chat is not helping, as well. Now my dishwasher is not working since more than two weeks, knowing that it has been installed only a month ago.
I bought my Maytag dishwasher MDB7749SBM0 three years ago. After it was in one month it already needed a service call. It needed a control panel. Out of the dishwasher 4 weeks because this happened over Thanksgiving. Two months later it stopped working and needed another service call. Technician was inexperienced and another one had to be called. Out of the dishwasher 3 weeks. At this time, and because of the expense of the machine, I purchased an extended warranty. This was control panel number two. Not long after, the heating element had to be replaced. Two weeks without the dishwasher. Now, my dishwasher stopped working again and it needs a new control panel. The technician is rude but did offer the information that the moisture ruins the control panels. IT IS A DISHWASHER!!! IT USES WATER!!! I only run the dishwasher twice per week so I cant imagine how poorly it would hold up if it was run more often. I am on my third week without the dishwasher because the part is on back-order! No one can tell us when it will be in. I bought a Maytag because I thought they had the appliance market under control. MY MISTAKE! I am very angry.
Two and a half years ago I bought a Maytag dishwasher thinking it was time to upgrade from my Ge. After a year and a half the control panel went out in in it! So For a little over a $100 I replaced it. Now, a year later, the panel has gone out again!!!! What is this? Every year I have to spend over a $100 to repair this thing!! I think it is time to find a new dishwasher!
I bought a Bravo XL Washer 3 yrs ago for $900 to $1000. The washer started beeping and not starting to eventually not turning on. I called customer service as I was told my washer was still under warranty. They scheduled a service man to come out with a $95 charge to come out. He came and it is the user interface. Apparently, this is a huge issue with this type of washer. He told me it would be cheaper to get a new washer than to have this one fixed. I called Whirlpool/Maytag after the fact and was told the part is $422.49 to fix the washer. I explained that I was told it was still under warranty and they denied this is the case. My previous washer I had for 18 years and not problems until the end. Having a washer for 3 years and being told to purchase another one because it would be too expensive to fix the current one is very disheartening! I do not recommend this product to anyone, nor do I recommend the company as they do not try to make things right or offer any assistance in any way! Buyer Beware.
Top rack fell off with load of dishes. Clips that hold rack to slides broke. Week for repairman, two days for parts, week for repairman. No repairman, call parts be in on 7/28 2014, repairman on 7/31/2014. ONLY HAD DISHER FOR A WEEK, NOW IT IS BROKE. WHAT A RIPOFF.
I have a Maytag dishwasher MDBH980AWQ10, within the 1st month of owning it there were issues. Now the electronic control panel is shot, dishwasher wont turn on. To replace it...almost the cost of what I paid, warranty has run out. In the last 7 years we have had problems with 5 various Maytag products, replaced our Maytag dishwasher which lasted 20 yrs and Maytag washer & dryer that lasted 30+ years and ran without a hitch. Maytag has not been helpful at all and their authorized service repair. A&E Repair Service is a bigger scam than they are. It is a waste of my finances and time to buy major appliances every 5 years. Each and every one of their new appliances has died shortly after all the warranties have run out. Im beyond frustrated, disgusted, and financially drained. It does not pay to be brand loyal to Maytag for they are no longer respectful nor appreciative of their customers. I would love to give corporate the opportunity to enjoy the same products that are in my home...in their homes...as well as the experience of their customer service. Last Maytag purchase for me! Is there anything that I can do in the meantime so Im not stuck with their lemons?
MDB7749AWM1 more Maytag corporate garbage! I bought this dishwasher since my last one, Whirlpool, gave out at three years (garbage motor from Korea) thinking this would be a quality product made in USA. Well after about 6 months into usage and under warranty, the circuit board went out! The repairman assured my wife that it was rare to replace it on a Maytag. Now 9 months later, out of warranty, the circuit board goes out again! I know what it is, I can fix it, but will Maytag work on fixing to get a better circuit board? No! The US government is a puppet to all these companies that keep getting bigger and fatter! I say buy foreign products! Enough of these fat companies buy the competition out and giving the US public no option. Preston E. Tucker said it best: You let the big guys push the little guys out of the game and you will end up with garbage for products! Do yourselves a favor, buy Bosch, LG or Samsung. I know their products are not better but just maybe, someone in these corporate offices will see that to sell in the USA, you have to sell quality again!
About 4 years we purchased a dishwasher model # MDB7749AWM2 made by Maytag. The first part of Aug. 2015 it quit working. I had a repairman look at it and he said it was the control panel and he would order one. He ordered it and we waited a couple of weeks, no part. He called about it and they told him Sept. 9th it would be sent. Sept. 9 came went and no part. He called them again and they told him they had no record of the order. So he ordered it again in few weeks, was told it was back-ordered. This happened a couple more times and I told him to cancel the order. I would go buy a new one but not a Maytag.
Dishwasher cleans well but the top rack is poorly designed for taller glassware. Unit has the typical features - wash, sanitize, rinse only, high temp wash, heated dry, light, normal or heavy wash, and delay start up to 6 hours. Standard dishwasher face; nothing fancy, no dirt catching features, very satisfactory. Electronic features (start, stop, etc.) broke after very little use. This is my second Maytag and a repeat of the first. Will NOT purchase this brand again!
Just like so many others, our Maytag 300 Quiet Series, just 2 years old, has a malfunctioning control panel. Repairman told us this has been an ongoing problem with Maytag dishwashers. Steam/water gets into the control panel. For a while it worked on and off and now it is dead. I am saving up to do the repair, but in the meantime the dishwasher sits idle.
I purchased this dishwasher about eight years ago, and I love the performance and the stainless steel interior. I never have a problem getting my dishes clean. This product definitely lives up to its reputation. Going forward, I would definitely buy the same brand if it became necessary.
MDB4949SDM1 - After owning Maytag model MDB/C-2 for thirteen (13) plus years, I decided to purchase the subject Maytag Model when my 13 year old died. Big mistake. Previous model was very simplistic in rack design and it provided user-friendly options such as two detachable baskets for silverware and a special rack for delicate items. The new model has been designed so your dishes go in on angles on the top rack and as such bowls, small plates etc never stay in place once you move the rack and the lower rack configuration was redesigned and the rear area which was open to allow for bigger pots and pans to fit better has been removed, so now you have to lay your pans on top of the tines, very difficult to low the dishwasher.Additionally, I purchased the stainless steel model; apparently in the coating process a drip pattern was sealed that you can see when sunlight hits dishwasher. Further the stainless steel face that they bond to the door has popped, so when you grab the handle the face pops in and out. Lastly the new design has an adjustable upper rack; I tried numerous times to adjust the rack and couldnt so when I called Customer Service for these issues, it basically boils down to if the Service Man comes out and determines my issues are cosmetic and the rack which Ive never been able to adjust should happen to work then I have to pay the service call as there is not warranty coverage. So I declined the Service Call and advised that this would be my last Maytag purchase. I highly recommend anyone considering this unit fully investigate and test out before buying.
At first my dishwasher worked great and I have always been really good about rinsing my dishes before I put them in. Starting a few months back I noticed my dishes were coming out gritty then all of a sudden it started backing up into our sink.
I purchased a Maytag dishwasher less than 2 years ago through Home Depot and did not purchase the extended warranty. The start button has stopped working and is not lighting up. I was referred by Pacific Sales, the appliance sales company at Home Depot, directly to Maytag to schedule repairs which I am willing to pay for. After a nearly hour long call between hold times and conversations I was told the service would be scheduled for Thursday or Friday of this week. As we were scheduling the appointment, I was told the computer for scheduling had gone down and to call the next day to schedule. I called next day and spoke with a customer service rep who said there was no record of my call the day before. I gave her all of my information, then she transferred me to another service person who then had no record of my two prior conversations. After giving my info to the this 3rd customer service representative, I learned that a repair could not be scheduled for over a week. I asked to speak with someone about my complaints and was told there was no one I could speak with but that she would pass on the complaint. I asked for a return call or email to confirm that my complaint was received and she said that I would not get that. I then asked for a free service call because of their poor customer service. This was of course denied. The dishwasher has been fine for the short period of time I have owned it but I wont buy another Maytag because of their poor customer service and because the dishwasher has a problem in less than two years. I am just writing this as a warning for other potential Maytag customers.
13 months after purchasing MDB7749SBM3 dishwasher this lights started making no sense. For me the buttons still work, but it seems like only a matter of time until they stop working too. Like many others, I opened up the door and found the corroded ribbon connector (see photo). It wasnt damp so since the corrosion happened at the point where a ridge of plastic presses the ribbon against the hot handle, I suspect heat. Obviously a design flaw. Come on Maytag. Recall?
My dishwasher racks are disintegrating. I called to see what to do or if there was a recall. I was told that problem happens a lot, but there is no recall or other option other than to purchase new racks. I could almost buy a new dishwasher. I bought Maytag so that it would last a long time with few repairs. That has not been the case with this dishwasher. I had a medium grade Sears’s dishwasher for years before I supposedly upgraded to a better dishwasher. Maytag is obviously an overpriced name and the quality of their product is no better than any other cheap dishwasher.
