I purchased a Kenmore Elite ceramic counter top stove in 2008, model 970-69
I purchased a Kenmore Elite ceramic counter top stove in 2008, model 970-698432. It has an extended warranty until 2013. When we first received the stove, one of the elements would not turn off. I had to flip the switch on the breaker to turn off the stove. It took 2 weeks to fix because no parts were available. The tech had to remove the necessary parts from the display model in the store. On August 26, my wife placed a pot of water on the stove to boil. A few minutes later, she heard a loud cracking noise. When she went to the stove, she noticed a large crack in the counter top. We called Sears call center and made an appointment for repairs to be made. Without going into great detail, the repair date was set back 5 times. They finally informed us that the part was not due until October 26. The part arrived earlier than expected and the repairs were done on October 18. When the tech inspected the top, he informed me that the crack was not a thermal break but rather an impact break, meaning something was dropped on the stove. I told him that nothing was ever dropped on it, and that there are no signs of an impact on the top. He showed me some spider lines from the bottom of the top. And he told me that the damage may not have happened when the top cracked, that some time before someone dropped something on the top and weakened it to eventually crack. He gave an example that if he dropped his penlight flashlight on the top in the right way on the right spot, it could weaken the top, and eventually lead to its cracking. If thats the case perhaps the top was defective. After all, they are supposed to withstand some force. Now, I am not a tech. But my experience has always been that if you drop an item on glass enough to cause damage, it will leave some kind of a mark, whether its an impact mark, a chip, or crack on the surface, not on the other side. I have called Sears home services and asked to have a senior tech come out and re-evaluate the top. Its no doubt that he will re-affirm the other techs decision. I dont have my hopes up. The cost of the top was $392.00 which I had to pay. So much for extended warranties.

Bought our Oven 2009 (Kenmore Elite)... Dec 2013 turned on the Clean Oven, and after two hours heard a loud pop. Could not open oven, because it was on clean. When we did, found a hole in the bottom of the oven and you could see the heating element. The light wasnt working, and our outside panel was only half working. Called Sears repair, and said would cost $950 to fix ($500 for labor). I said that this was dangerous, that my oven basically exploded on CLEAN feature. He said I know, most of my calls are because of the SELF Clean. He told me Self Clean, Self destruct. He said he wont let his wife use the self clean because of the problems it causes with ovens. He makes his wife clean the old fashion way because of all the problems he has seen. He said there were no recalls, and he couldnt give me a discount. He asked if I had the extended warranty problem. I said no... but this shouldnt be happening. He said he agrees, but he was only the service man. I am really disappointed that this is considered normal... and it is a big hazard... I am now in the process of finding a new oven... and believe me it wont be Sears... and wanting an oven without self clean... That feature should be taken off... It is amazing how much more you spend on an oven with that feature, a feature that can blow up your oven. The pride sure has gone out of American Made Products... Just venting... no pun intended.

When my dishes stop working they came out to check and got it fix it. My friend is buying a washer and dryer on Oct.3. 2015 from Kenmore.

Two Sears brand appliances, Kenmore, were in this house when I purchased it October 1, 2015. Both appeared fairly new and were installed during a kitchen remodel by the previous owner. Three months ago I trashed the microwave because it had so many issues. Now the stove Broil element comes on by itself and cannot be turned off at the stove console. The stove gives no indication that anything is turned on.My kitchen smoke alarm went off while I was in another part of my house alerting me that something is wrong. A glance at the stove, the only source of heat in the kitchen, and there was no indication that anything was on. A quick look in the oven and the broil element was glowing, the oven was very hot, thus the fumes escaping that set off the smoke detector. Nothing would turn it off. I turned off the breaker in the main panel and let the oven cool overnight. The next morning I turned the breaker back on and the oven came on with it, still not showing any indication of heat on the stove control panel.I Googled known defects with Kenmore stoves. Seems this is a known problem though Sears hasnt been very helpful getting it fixed. I havent reported my issue yet, not to Sears anyway. On Monday Ill be seeking legal advice about the possibility of a class action. In the mean time Ill contact Sears for a comment. This is a safety issue, my house could have caught fire while I was asleep or away and they knew the problem existed but did nothing.

Kenmore range (model # 790.91413010) was purchased in March of 2011. A week or two later, the front control panel on the range fell in. Sears brought another range in the same model out and now this range has the exact same defect. Sears wants us to pay for the repair since warranty is no longer valid. I feel that this is a manufacturers defect or installation defect of the control panel, not something that the consumer should have to be accountable for. Sears/Kenmore needs to be held accountable for their products!

The oven racks are also falling down which is becoming extremely scary and I am afraid to use the oven. I will be calling Sears tomorrow but suspect after reading all these other similar reviews to expect nothing from Sears other than to say they will send someone out. It runs efficiently and saves energy and water. It is perfectly sized for the space in our counter area, and fits snugly with no gaps. The dishwasher interior easily holds a large amount of dishes, if properly arranged. It has a nice, simple, clean design. The sterling silver and black complement other appliances of similar design, even those made by other manufacturers. When considering the performance in relation to its cost, its a great value.

Kenmore Ultra Bake Super Capacity Free Standing Gas Oven - Our oven stopped working right before Thanksgiving of 2012. It would not hold a temperature or even turn on at times. We had the control panel replaced for $300, and it got us through Thanksgiving. The oven originally cost $600 so to replace the control panel was very expensive. Right after Thanksgiving, it began to work inconsistently again. Our most recent incident was where the oven stayed on and increased the heat even though we turned it off and the control panel said that the oven was off. The gas was still on and clearly, the oven was increasing in temperature. We then got the error message E2-F3 which is the warning that it was too hot. We could not get it to turn off so we called the gas company to come right away. The gas man that showed up said that if we had cut the power to the house, the gas would have remained on unless we turned the gas valve off as well. This stove is too dangerous to keep. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

During the rebuild of our house we wanted to go quality, so we thought. Our kitchen was stocked with the Kenmore Elite line. Dishwasher, range and refrigerator freezer. Well here we are 2 and 1/2 years later and the Elite has already worn off, with any warranty of course. The dishwasher on the blank, out of warranty. Now the fridge is no longer cooling and you guessed it out of warranty and extended warranty. Still waiting for repairman to assess whether to repair or replace.

Kenmore Elite oven model#: 790.4107 - We broke the glass top and a serviceman just finished replacing the glass top and we noticed the glass door handle was loose. So he then begin tightening the oven door handle at the screws when the entire outside glass door cover exploded throwing glass on both of us and all across the room. It was obvious from looking at how the door was constructed that a design flaw was the cause BUT neither the manufacturer or Sears would accept responsibility And both said the other designed the oven and passed the blame on the other. Because we had no warranty or a Sears serviceman doing the job at $175.00 more, Sears refused accepting any fault but our own.

My wife was baking cookies in our Kenmore oven. Thankfully she, her friend, and both of our kids were not standing near it. All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, the glass on the oven door exploded violently sending pieces of glass flying up to 10 feet away from the oven. Fortunately, our kitchen island took the brunt of the explosion. We were amazed to find thousands of pieces of glass lying on our kitchen floor.

Economical, enjoyable, and convenient. The Kenmore had the features that I wanted within my price range. This is why I initially made the decision to purchase the particular model. In terms of the brand, it is known for quality and this is why I was comfortable choosing one of their products and it has met expectations. I like the styling of the refrigerator. It fits in well in the kitchen and looks good while being functional and doing its job of keeping the familys food fresh and cold. I also like the water and ice dispenser because it makes it easy and convenient to get filtered water and I dont have to worry about keeping ice cube trays full. However, sometimes ice forms on the bottom and makes a mess in the kitchen. We havent figured out exactly why, so I wish they fix this issue and make it so that it doesnt leak water inside and cause this issue.

First electric stove top and while it did take some adjusting from cooking on a gas range, I am happy I chose my 6 burner Kenmore stove/oven. The Turbo boil and warm zone are a huge plus. Really one one place for a large pan, which is upfront so that is good. This is for a smaller to medium kitchen in my opinion.

The Kenmore dishwasher came with our apartment. The performance is excellent, and we dont have to go over dishes, or re-wash anything like we have in the past with other dishwashers. We generally keep it on the normal wash setting and it gets the job done, even on heavier stained dishes! The Kenmore dishwasher came with our apartment. It is the perfect size for a smaller space, like an apartment or a condo. It is compact, yet not too small, as it houses all of our dishes perfectly. You can fit a good amount of dishes in, yet it is not bulky. The appearance of the Kenmore is fairly clean. I feel as though this model looks slightly dated, due to the large selection of newer models offered on the market today, however it is stainless steel, and goes well with all appliances, as it has a very neutral, clean face. I feel as though, you pay for what you get with this model. Dishwashers can be expensive and this one is in the more low to moderate range, and it is worth it.

Everything we had is gone and Kenmore doesnt want to take responsibility for their product. Mind you I have not used the stove in several months because we do not eat at home during the summer.

I own a Kenmore Elite Model #980.9802. It will be 5 years old in August 2014. I paid about $1800.00 for it. In the last few months, my lower oven racks will not stay in place. It seems that either they are smaller or the oven is bigger. I have learned that to repair this problem I need a new oven liner. I have read that this is no small job and that it needs to be repaired by a repairman. We are talking somewhere between $400 and up to fix this. It sounds like a defect. I dont think 4 years later that I should be facing a bill that large to repair my range.

I bought back in 2005 a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and oven from Sears. All Kenmore. Well lets see. The refrigerator starting rusting on the outside in about 5 yrs. then the microwave handle broke in about 6 yrs. and the dishwasher panel on the bottom all the paint flaked off and now the oven that I have hardly used has a hole in the inside of the oven... Its a flippin crack. Rust and more rust where the racks slide... I will never purchase anything from Sears again... This is junk...

I believe after viewing so many refrigerators and going to different places to check out, we were impressed with the Kenmore Refrigerator brand. I also checked out other brands and reviews but the Kenmore refrigerator by far was equipped better and the price was in the range we were going to spend. Their refrigerators also had good reviews and we liked the look. The Kenmore Refrigerator stuck out as the one we wanted to purchase. The features were great. It was set up easy to clean and it has a great icemaker.

It looks great. Its modern and attractive. It is also easy to wipe down and keep the outside door looking clean. Overall, this dishwasher does a great job. For really tough, stuck on food, I usually have to scrub it by hand first. But it still does a good job getting dishes clean. It was worth the price. It wasnt too overly expensive, and I feel that it was a good value for the money. It does what Id expect from a dishwasher in this price range.

I tried to contact customer service and was transferred 6 times, then hung up on! The Kenmore Elite Range of 5 years almost burned my home down this morning. When I called to ask for assistance to determine if the range was safe to be in my home, they wanted to charge me $25 to just talk to someone! Then, they wanted to charge me $89.99 to send some to my home! Yes, I am furious that this company just wanted to collect money and would not help. My home has smoke damage, which I now have to clean due to the malfunction. I will never purchase a Kenmore product again!

I bought the most expensive and top of the line stove over 3k with the thought of getting the best product they offer. If this is Sears Kenmore best I feel very sorry for anyone that paid less. Dual convection fans but cooks uneven. Takes 20 min to come up to full temp if it’s at 400 and told by Sears service tech this is normal. My 20 year old Jenn-Air it replaced took 8 min to come up to 450. The front panel looks like hell after 1 year. My dog can swipe his nose across it and turn on burners. It’s a safety hazard as done it when a towel was on the burner. The top glass if you look at it wrong it will scratch. I use aluminum bottom Swiss diamond pots and pans never made a mark on the Jenn-Air and this thing looks worse now after 2 years than my 20 year old glass did on the old stove that had cast iron used on it now and then. This is the finest Chinese garbage ever made. You just cannot buy a quality product anymore no matter what you pay. I tried to get the glass replaced and fix the stove and no luck. I will never buy another Sears/Kenmore product ever again and go out of my way to tell others how poor of a product this really is. Had the Jenn-Air not got the top smashed when I put it out in the shed it would be back in place of this piece of junk and be outside with a big sign on it saying how terrible Sears products and service is now. No wonder Craftsman tools went to Lowe’s and no wonder Sears is now barely above water. Done with them completely. I should have learned my lesson on the terrible Elite dishwasher we have and all the issues with that thing but tried to give them another chance as back 20 years ago products from them lasted forever compared to other brands.

I wanted to buy a new oven for my 88 year old mother who lives in a mobile home. There was only one model, Kenmore 24inch, white, gas model that fit her space. This oven was bought site unseen as there were no floor models available. Installed and with all the extra charges the cost was $1600. The oven itself was 1499.00. I live in another area so upon visiting my mother and seeing the new oven which has absolutely NO BELLS OR WHISTLES. This is a basic on off oven and broiler. OH it does have a clock... What a piece of garbage!!! The design is stupid with broiler in a bottom drawer, its barely hot enough on HI to broil anything, the door corners were chipped, the oven glass steams up when using the broiler, the temperature gauge is way off in the oven, the installation looks cheap and incomplete. If I had seen all of this within the 30 day return period this oven would be returned... But my only recourse now is to inform anyone who might be considering this oven to consider that the only pro...is that it is cheap in every way!

Kenmore model # 79092803013 electric range oven started smelling plastic burn every time I turned on the oven. Well, I should have turned it off but I didnt. Thanks to God it didnt cause any major damages including fatalities. The baking and broiling elements stopped working and decided to open the back panel of the range. To my surprise the control board and the harness was burned and melted until changed to complete black. They should have recalled their products knowing their safety issues. The sad thing is all my appliances are Kenmore. I will never buy their products again. Be Aware!!!

The best brand out there. Reliable and trusted. It washes dishes clean even the most dirty quietly and efficiently. Its a brand you can trust. Has been for years. The way the racks are arranged lets me clean more dishes and get them cleaner in one wash than other brands. More efficient means less power used and less time in the kitchen. Looks nice. Matches my kitchen. Looks clean and fits right in with my fridge. Easy to clean off the surface area too. With all the small grandkids running and getting into it, its a big plus to have a easy clean surface. Worth every red cent. The product you buy is better and lasts longer. The dishwasher will continue to give you your moneys worth well beyond when other brands fall apart. Very reasonable for a well-made machine.

I used the self cleaning on the bottom oven. I did it according to the instructions in the manual. The walls in the bottom oven expanded so much that the racks will not stay up. It is not under warranty! This has never happened before to the other ranges we have owned and we have spent a lot more money on this range! Its a hazard when the racks fall I have to prop them up on empty pans to use the oven. We have been loyal Sears customers for years but now we will never purchase from Sears again!

The microwave oven tech explained that unless you open the very difficult to open door exactly right, then you might pop the fuse in the oven and short it out. If you lift up just slightly on the door rather than pulling precisely level it could pop. Very poor design if its that easy to do.

Kenmore Elite Range - Today is 12 March. My wife came home and the House was full of smoke from the stove being on high. I had cooked some Cabbage for my wife around 11:00am. I left to go to work around 2pm and left the burner on the lowest setting which was Low setting to keep the cabbage warm. She came home around 6:30pm and the Fire alarm was going off and the house was full of smoke. She tried to turn the burner off with no luck. She had to go and turn the breaker off for the range. I came home at 10:00pm and went and turned the breaker back on and the front right burner where the pot was on and it was on high again. I played with all the switches with no luck at all. I had the main circuit board changed not even a month ago by a service tech. He told me that it controls all the switches for the top and also the oven section. I had to go and turn the main breaker off again.. THIS ALMOST COST ME MY HOUSE. FOR FOLKS READING THIS, BUYER BEWARE... I will not purchase another Sears product!!!

Works very fast and gets clothes very clean provided you use the right soap. Made sure that the lines are connected correctly. This was an item I bought on eBay and found that it was worth the price. Bought it bundled with a dryer. Cleans my items every time without fail. Only became unreliable when the top started to rust so I called the washer repair guy and asked to have the rust taken off. Instead they replaced the entire top of the washer. Appearance remained great until the rust showed up. The rust made the top of the dryer get dark and brown and strange. The appearance fell apart at that point. It was strange to see my clothes not look so nice at that point. It was very cheap, only a few hundred dollars so I was okay with the item totally falling apart when it did despite the fact that it was inconvenient. The value for me was perceived in the amount of money that I ultimately did not spend.

Glass blew out about 3 ft. all over the kitchen floor. Our grandson had just walked past the door. This could have been far worse than it was. A visit to Sears on Sunday proved futile as, you guessed it, they had not heard of this happening and didnt know this type thing could happen. Luckily I had taken pictures of everything as proof & showed them. All they did was provide phone numbers, which I called. They could only schedule a service call. I have a small kitchen and so making space is a problem but with this machine it fits perfectly next to our oven and has never cause a problem size wise. With my Kenmore dryer I never really cared about the appearance of my appliances but this product really fits in with my modern theme. My clothes never got caught in the mechanisms and the knobs are easy to clean if they happen to get soap on them. It was a very reliable washer. It didnt leak ever and never broke down. It has a sleek, clean look. Its white, though Id prefer black. The paint has chipped a little, but its not a huge deal. The overall value is excellent. The price is in the middle to upper range, but its effectiveness and consistency makes it worth it. Not being black lowers the value slightly in my eyes.

Purchased the Kenmore Electric Range Model #790-94182310 in March of 2015. Used mostly the top, some baking but no more than 10 times a month. Babied this range! Wiped up any spills myself. However had a spillover and decided to do the first self-clean. Range is 1 year and 8 months old. The error code came on flashing F-10 on the display. I hit the off button but the F-10 continued to flash. Turned off electric supply at the breaker. Never had a ring or anything other than the F-10 to alert me. By the time it cooled, I had done the research for troubleshooting which was very helpful through YouTube by a Sears technician. We learned there was probably a temperature sensor problem. We also learned how to test it and the control panel. After removing the back panel, we discovered they both were heat-damaged. Part of the control panel was blackened by fire. The odor that I smelled and thought was the cleaning, was the plastic around the panel and the elements within the control panel. Called Sears - they offered to send a technician that would cost $89, then of course it would need the parts. Didnt bother finding out what that would cost. Did not buy the extended warranty. Who would have thought that the first time you self-cleaned an oven it would catch something on fire!!! Very unsatisfied. We are going to attempt to fix it ourselves but we do not intend to ever purchase Kenmore again. Loved my KitchenAid that I had for years and only got rid of it because it was black and I wanted to change to white. Needless to say, we are angry. Also said they could not find where there was a recall on the range. Gave me another to call which I will do. Now to hope for a recall which I feel is necessary!!! I bought all 4 appliances at one time, Kenmore elite top of line bottom freezer/ref, dishwasher, microwave and electric stove. Ive owned them for at least 4 years and had problems with all of them. I paid top dollar for junk. What put me to post my displeasure was the refrigerator. About 1 month after warranty expired I began to receive Er 1F messages. I read on internet to pull the plug and it will resolve problems. I did it several times a year since then and problem would resolve and come back again. Now its becoming more frequent and water is now leaking from ice-maker. Going to change fan and motherboard to see if it solves the problem. Dishwasher also top of the line which I had to change major part that failed which caused major flood/water damage to house. Lucky that was still under warranty at the time. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Buyers beware. I signed up to a class action suit regarding refrigerator problems couple years back but did not hear back from group filing lawsuit. Sears and Kenmore should stop selling these inferior products with the elite tag. I had a GE appliances that lasted for 10 years or more which was much cheaper and more reliable than these terrible products. No wonder they were pushing me to purchase extended warranty cause there was known problems with these awful appliances.

Concerned that grandkids may get burned. If I adjust the setting even a little bit below Low, the temp drops to 92F. Note: Owners manual says Low setting should produce 110F water. Factoring in the possibility of short repeated heating cycles causing expected readings of 20F higher, it is still producing water 10-17F higher than expected with no ability to lower the temp without dropping too much (92F).2May17 - Sears Technician diagnosed and ordered gas control valve (thermostat). 10May17 - Sears Technician installed new valve. Would not start. He conferred with Sears and AO Smith tech support staff. They determined that the valve must be defective. Ordered new valve. Next morning I (the customer) tried heater once again. It worked fine, but produced same hot temps as before.15May17 - Sears technician returned. I shared my temp readings with him. He contacted Sears & AO Smith tech support. They concluded that gas valve was working properly. They rationalized that the problem was related to stacking (short heat cycles). I pointed out that even if we allow an additional 20F for that, it is 10-15F too high with no ability to lower the temperature to a proper range. They suggested installing a mixing valve and checking single handed faucets to see of having any cross-over issues (i.e. turn on cold but still pulling hot water). Closed call but told technician intended to register a product complaint with Sears/AO Smith but I was very satisfied with his service/help. Total labor cost for Service Call: $209. Original cost of heater install $1215.

I recently noticed rust around the bleach dispenser of my Kenmore top loading washer Mod 796 2900 2000. I called Sears and was told to call the Rework department at 1-800-659-7026. I spoke to several folks to include John, Jose and Paul (no last name or employee number was given) and 2 out of three said there was a RECALL on this model number and one said there was not. The final person that I spoke to said there was a recall and actually scheduled a technician to come out and service my machine. I asked specifically, since this is under a recall I do not have to pay the service charge right? and I was told, that is correct. When the tech called to tell me he was coming he said he would have to charge me because this was not a covered call. I then called 1800-549-4505 and spoke to Zack. He told me that it is not a recall but a Service Flash (SF26-813). I was told that the Service flash covered the parts and all I was responsible for was the trip charge of $85-$89 and if you are given any problems have them call to this number (1800-469-4663) and reference the SF number. The tech called me back and again said he verified and was told that this was not covered and that I would have to be charged. I asked for their departments number so I can have the dept. that I spoke to talk to their dept. but they would not give the number. I called the 800-469-4663 and spoke to Anna (employee number **) and she said that she read off the notes from the last phone call that my washer was not covered because of the serial number range. So basically, Sears personnel are not all trained the same (leadership/management problem), because of this Sears/Kenmore wouldnt take care of a defective product that they sold me for a large amount of money. Granted, it is not under warranty any more but I thought the company would take care of a defective problem regardless because of their name and reputation. It probably would have been cheaper to fix a problem at somewhere around $200-$400 than to lose all the customers that this event is going to cause. I have made numerous phone calls to see if Sears/Kenmore would address this problem but to no avail. If you are considering buying a Kenmore appliance of any kind please do research beforehand and reconsider.

The Kenmore Electric Range model #790.9011 is a traditional coil top stove that I purchased in 2011. Within 2 years of this brand new purchase I had to replace a burner fuse. The part costs $30. Within 5 years, there was a flash of light and a small explosion at the oven control panel and then it went blank. The part cost $170 to replace, assuming that would fix it, according to a parts store expert (he was a former repairman). I didnt think it was worth replacing and had to get a new range. The warranty was for only one year on the Kenmore and according to a store salesman all range brands only have a one year warranty today too. Manufacturers online claim that these types of ranges should last about 16 years. I have since found out that although the latest version of this Kenmore stove rates well with Consumer Reports, it is made by Electrolux, which has a poor repair history and poor brand reliability, according to Consumer Reports. It looks exactly like the Kenmore I bought 5 years ago. I wonder if the Kenmore I purchased in 2011 was also an Electrolux model. I definitely dont recommend the Kenmore Electric Range.

Sears is retailing the microwave for $2,000 (I paid $1,300). I have a Hamilton Beach microwave that I purchase at Walmart for $65 at it works like a charm. Why cant Sears make a $2,000 microwave that lasts for a year?The fun begins when you contact Sears Customer Care. The first thing that the non-English speaking person told me was that I needed to contact Electrolux because they were the ones who actually made the microwave. Duh? I bought the microwave at Sears and it has Kenmore labeled on the front door! I really dont care which company in China made the unit, Sears is the responsible party! But this is what Sears Customer Care operators are trained to do. After much complaining, I was finally turned over to an English-speaking operator. His job was to sell me a $500 per year insurance policy. I told him, Thanks but no thanks! If I have to spend $500 it will go toward yanking out the Kenmore unit and replacing it with another brand!By the way, the microwave (when actually working) gives off an ear-piercing beep every 15 seconds that is extremely obnoxious. I was told after they have been to my house more than 4 times they could not give me a new set because they switched companies that handled their warranty work and they could only see where they have been to my house once. I rent my home so I didnt buy this stove but I use it pretty much every day. Its a white Kenmore, ceramic top with 4 burners. One of those is a double burner. I just did the self cleaning on it, which took 3 hours (not as long as some ovens). It burned off pretty much everything but left some crusties between the crack of the door and the oven but other than that it cleaned itself great (I just had to wipe the ash out). The top is fairly easy to clean but to get the ceramic really clean and shiny I use the Kenmore cooktop ceramic cleaner. Its wonderful.

Problem is (could turn out to be a fire hazard) the microwave does not count down the seconds nor does it respond to stop or any other command. It just keeps on going. Sears response is that they would send someone for 249$ to look at it. I would like to know if I should report this to Safer Products Recall or if anyone has had a similar problem.

We bought a new Kenmore electric range model #790.93751102 in 2001. I have not had any problems with the oven until two nights ago. We turned the oven on to 350 degrees and waited for it to preheat. We put cookies in the oven and within a few minutes there was smoke inside. My daughter opened the door which caused flames. She shut the door. Smoke was all over the house and pouring out of the oven. I turned off the oven thinking that would do it. Smoke was still filling the air and the oven was getting hotter. I looked in the door window and noticed the upper element was on. We decided to turn the breaker off. Im so glad I did not open the door because we heard a pop and flames came shooting out of the door and then quickly got sucked back in. At that point I called 911. The fire department was dispatched as well as some deputies. We were instructed not to open the oven door until someone got there. By the time the deputies had arrived, the oven was no longer smoking.When we turned the breaker back on, the upper element went back on, and we hadnt touched the oven. The broiler just turned on for no reason. I contacted Sears, and the technician said he had never heard anything like that happening. I told him he should do a search because I found that there are plenty of us around. I know the unit is not new, but that shouldnt happen. Thank God no one was hurt, but we could easily have been, and our house could have burnt down. Im glad we did not leave the kitchen to go to another room until the timer went off. Thinking about that makes me shudder.

I recommend this product, it is made in good quality and we have it for four years now but we never encountered any minor or major problem yet. The appearance of the washer is okay and slim. Very traditional and just fit right in our laundry room. Moreover it is nice and easy to clean. It is really a good value of money because it came from a trusted brand and they are known of producing of high-quality materials. It is proven and tested of our small family.

I place a pan on the middle level (usual for baking) and the rack collapses!I paid Sears (~$100) to send a technician to diagnose the patently obvious problem. Still, they wouldnt do anything (out of warranty) except perform a $1,000 (my estimate for parts & labor) repair that would simply replace the warped parts with more of the same to repeat the performance after another cleaning cycle. I’ve sent letters to the president of Sears Canada, no luck. I have plans to fix it myself. I hope Sears keeps bleeding red ink. Sears will never sell me anything else!

Im very satisfied with its performance. I never really have an issue with stuck on food or cloudiness. It thoroughly cleans and sterilizes my dishes and it doesnt take hours either. Very good model for mid price range dishwasher. I have actually moved houses and the size of the dishwasher and location has been a perfect fit both times. I went from a very large kitchen to a much smaller one and it fit with no problem. I really would have liked a sleeker look but for the price and performance I am very satisfied. The white color doesnt stain or dirty either. Very, very, very happy with the performance I am getting for the dollar amount I paid. Excellent value. This is a very good brand and model for someone that is at my income level looking for a new dishwasher.

Except for extraordinary presence of mind killing the electrical circuit we would have had a serious house fire. I contacted Sears and they refused to repair or replace the unit because it wasnt covered by their warranty. So now I own a $2000.00 range which is apparently only functional for 2 1/2 years. Needless to say I could have leased a range for less money and at least the leasing company would have replaced it. I will never again purchase from Sears.

Its an over the stove model and the other day I was running the fan on low while boiled eggs. After I was done, I noticed a smell of something being hot. I ignored it but when I went to shut off the fan it wouldnt. I tried several times but finally I unplugged it and pulled it back in. The fan shut off but I smell was stronger. An hour later I went to use the microwave and found that then plastic turntable inside as well as the smaller turntable had gotten so hot it turned from red to black and MELTED! Keep in mind, the only thing that was running was the fan when this happened. I tried to call Sears and was just given the runaround. Its two years old! It could have burned down my house if Id left it alone. Im horrified about this situation.

Kenmore appliances used to be reliable but have gone down so much that my husband as a builder, after using them for over 15+ years finally had to recently switch brand/distributors. Where to begin?! Less than one month after installation the refrigerator ice maker broke. Fixed it and it broke again. Now we just buy ice. We are so sick of dealing with appts etc. Its loud and seems to always be making all kinds of crazy noises. Our double oven also new - from the get go convection fan wasnt and still isnt working properly even after being “fixed”. Top element rattles loud even though screwed in tight, service tells us its because the inside is made so cheap they all rattle even if tightened - nothing they can do about it. So every time we cook we have to listen to a loud rattle. Every day I am reminded how much I despise Sears and Kenmore appliances for the garbage they sold us, wasted our money, and didnt stand behind. Our flat top stove is the only thing I love.

But it would be cool to have a feature like a wifi speaker so you can listen to music while cleaning without having to carry your phone with you, a digital picture frame, a remote for temperature control and music volume, auto defrost in freezer and a wide range of colors. It would also be cool if it had an organizer with pictures on tablet so you just make a selection of what you want to cook for dinner. Then it just deposits it in slot in door and youre not letting cool air out. Moreover, it needs an ice maker, a larger freezer and drawers. And maybe add a safety measure by adding a child safety lock in handle and alarm if the doors are left open. Would even like a way to keep odor out of refrigerator so no one needs baking soda anymore or a self clean option for fresher smelling refrigerator. Maybe they can do bundle with kitchen items like refrigerator with dish rack or with another appliance. And maybe put deeper pan on bottom to catch water.But why are refrigerator so expensive? With these ideas Im sure it will be very expensive so I would recommend a discount of some sort and come down on price. But all in all I like this refrigerator very much. I love that its kind of roomy. You can put a lot of groceries in there without taking up all the space. It has met my expectations and surpassed all others. Would definitely refer this refrigerator to friends and family.

I have had this refrigerator for several years and I have never had a problems with it. The seals are extremely tight and the insulation is great as I never have to turn it up very high. I have a family of 6 and there is plenty of room for storage. I do have extra drawers that I put on the shelves because with 4 teenagers it makes no difference how big your fridge is, there is never enough room. Mine is the color bisque, it matches my stove and my washer and dryer. I prefer this as it does not show prints and spots as easy as as white one does. Mine has a left opening as that is the way my kitchen is designed. I bought it on sale and it was extremely well priced. I would have bought it whether it was on sale or not as it was the only one I could find that completely met all of the things I wanted.

A few weeks ago, I was using the self-cleaning cycle when I heard a pop and saw a spark of light. I turned the cycle off, let it cool and turned the cleaning cycle back on and finished the cleaning. In my heart I knew there was something not right. I tested the preheat and it seemed slow, but I was able to use the oven a few times after that. Then the last time I turned it on, I got a weird chlorine smell/burning plastic?...That was it... No more oven. After the disbelief subsided, I started making phone calls. Per Sears... my one year warranty was up and I was up a creek. Sears repair sent a repairman ($80.25 with tax) and I was told it would be $348.02 to repair the electronic range control and overlay.Needless to say, the repairman had little to say except, These things are mass produced, its the manufacturer (Kenmore? probably not) not Sears. I guess Sears only sells the junk. After that they have no responsibility. He also had the gall to say, It is what it is, and left coupons for a percentage off a new stove. The little Troll even gave me a line about purchasing a new warranty after they repaired their junk. TWILIGHT ZONE... I will never buy another Kenmore product nor will I buy from Sears. If I could give a negative star rating I would... Now I need to go look for a stove as I am raising three grandchildren and they like to eat regular... Guess you get what you pay for... or not!

We purchased a Kenmore Elite 24 cu.ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator model# 78043 in Feb 2015 and installed it in late April 2015 for our new kitchen renovation. We loved the appearance of the unit and the space available inside. We had been noticing for the past 3 or 4 weeks that our food was going bad and an unusual odor inside. At first, we thought we had just purchased some out of date food. We placed boxes of baking soda inside for the odor. We installed a refrigerator thermometer inside both compartments and began monitoring the temperatures. The temp range in the fridge was 43-54 degrees and the freezer was 6-20 degrees even though the settings were at the recommended 0 and 37.Please be aware if you purchase this unit that the display only shows the setting temps, not the actual temps. Two months after being put into service, this unit has stopped cooling the refrigerator/freezer compartments adequately. In the end, all of our food had to be discarded. Initially, Sears service suggested they would replace the defective unit because it was so new, then said we had to schedule a service call 22 days from now. We purchased this item based primarily on the Kenmore name. That was obviously a mistake.Updated on 08/19/2015: This is an update to our previous review of the fridge we purchased from Sears. The service tech finally arrived on Aug 4 after our original appt was re-scheduled for a week later. He ordered the parts which were delivered the next day. The appt for install was Aug 19. Sears called yet again to reschedule for Sept 1. In the meantime, we discovered the part they sent was the wrong part. We called today to hopefully get the right part before the rescheduled Sept 1 appointment.

When using these features, the range produced an extreme amount of a chemical smelling smoke that filled my house and set off my smoke detectors. I called a technician and was told that the unit was burning off a cutting oil that is used in the manufacturing process and that the smoke was perfectly normal. REALLY??? My husband has asthma and has had to leave the house because of the smoke. I cant get anyone from Sears of Kenmore to help me. I am incurring costs like crazy trying to get this mess cleaned up, paying for my husbands hotel and paying a company to come in and run air scrubbers. I have also had to remove the stove from the house in order to reduct the smell of toxins and now I have no way to cook for my family.

On opening the Kenmore convection wall oven door, the handle was loose and when I pulled on it, the entire glass door shattered, cutting my hand, ruining food on the counter, spraying glass as far as 12 from the oven. Using a whisk broom, regular broom and the vacuum, we were able to get most of the glass up and then we washed all of the kitchen rugs. If a small child or one of our pets had been next to me, some serious harm may have resulted. I have read about other customers having this problem and that replacing the door is not a safe option - it can happen again. Its a serious design flaw.I have spent at least an hour or two so far on the phone with Sears and Kenmore, last night immediately after the explosion and then again this morning. They are willing to send a repair tech to assess the problem at a cost to me of $99 because I have no extended warranty. NOT FAIR! This is their problem and they should offer ways to replace the oven with a better design or recompense me so that I can get a safe oven.

We purchased our new Kenmore Elite stove and had it delivered in November 2010 for our new home. By December 2011, we had to get the control panel for the stove fixed. A few months later, we had to call them again to fix the same problem. At both times, it was under warranty as we had purchased extended warranty. By October 2014, I was baking chicken in the oven at 350. I took the chicken out of the oven, closed the oven door, reached for a fork to turn the chicken and the oven suddenly just exploded. There was shattered glass everywhere popping on the floor like popcorn. The experience was extremely frightening and thank God there were no small children or pets around at the time. After the initial shock, we contacted Sears and only received apologies. We were fluffed off as it was no longer under warranty. We have not purchased a new one as yet but would never buy another Kenmore product again. We have shared this experience with our family and friends who are equally as shocked!

It is and always has been a reliable brand that has proven to always outlast other so called reliable brand and has always been sold at a reasonable price. Having it is convenient. I can use it for storage and it doesnt use an excessive amount of water and it isnt excessively noisy when operating so I can enjoy TV while it works for me and I can be relaxed at the end of the day. Have no problems with it, but I would like it to use less water and electricity because both are an expensive item where I live.

Kenmore oven Model 790.9745 - We purchased our house in July 2014 and didnt notice at the time that the front glass of the oven was missing. We ordered a new glass front, installed it and a few months later, the front glass exploded and went all over the kitchen. Then we realized that must have been why the glass was missing when we bought the house. We replaced the glass again and the other day the same thing happened. Three times in three years. Each time someone was standing near the oven while it was baking at 350 degrees when the glass exploded. We were lucky no one got hurt.It was unusual that the dogs or kids werent in the kitchen with us at the time as they usually are! In addition to the glass exploding three times that we know of, the control panel had a F-10 error which is run away temperature. The smoke detectors went off in the house to alert us to that problem due to the extreme heat coming from the oven. This oven needs to be recalled. It seems like this is a problem many people have had in reading the reviews!

I have never owned a stove that I loathe as much as I do the Kenmore glass top stove that we have. Every week without fail, the handle comes apart, causing the glass door and white casing to fall to the ground and I have to screw the entire door and handle back on. We arent rough with this appliance. Its a piece of junk, period. Another thing is that the cooking elements dont provide consistent heat. If I want to boil water to make a cup of tea, I swear I have to wait five minutes before the water in the kettle comes to a boil. I really detest this stove and I am counting the days until it finally gives up the ghost so I can buy a decent stove.

We bought a Kenmore Power Miser 12 from Sears, one of the best they had with 12 years warranty on parts and supply of a new heater in case of leak. Last Friday I found my basement flooded. The WH was dripping water and rust was coming out from under the cap and other places. I stopped the water and turned the electricity off, then called Sears. They said s.b. would call us within 24 hours to set up an appointment. However nobody called. The same thing was happening again and again from Saturday, Sunday, Monday. This morning (Tuesday) they told me that they have no technicians in my area to verify it. (Its laughable - I live in NYC suburb and 1 mile from Sears store in Yorktown Heights). I was told to find a licensed water heater technician to confirm that water heater is not repairable and then they can replace it. I have to pay whatever the technician for verification asks and then the installation itself.When I asked them for more details how to arrange things, how the technician will let them know that the WH really needs to be replaced they disconnected me. Even after another 40 minutes on phone I could not get back to my case again. Knowing that customers cannot wait too long with leaking water heater, they frustrate them but doing nothing, telling them lies that s.b. would help them. The only purpose of this bureaucracy is to give up their rights. I hate Sears for this. Now I am stuck. I cannot get anybody from Sears to come and fix it or replace it. I am sorry I didnt get a tank from somewhere else. I wont shop at Sears again.

I have called customer service and they advise purchasing a whole new set, although this is almost new or very gently used. Customer service is not helpful (extended wait hold time; ignorant product sales representatives who transfer to other departments with ignorant personnel). When I asked to speak to a supervisor the call was dropped...This has happened on numerous occasions, so it is not just a fluke. I will NOT purchase ANY KENMORE product ever! I advise others to consider purchasing any other brand but KENMORE.

It has been used roughly a dozen times if that. Well on 1/26/15 we had made a pizza and were enjoying it when we heard a large pop. Upon investigation we discovered that the inner door glass had exploded and shattered. It was contained inside by the front and back panels. I figured because the warranty was only expired by three months that Sears would foot the bill for repairs. Not so! Their argument was warranty had expired. Okay understand that but when the hell have you ever heard of oven door glass exploding simply by using the oven. Definitely one for Ralph Nader. Ridiculous. What if it had been the outer glass with a toddler or family pet walking by. Believe Sears like the rest of iconic American businesses continue to sell us down the river with inferior products.

I purchased a complete line of Kenmore Elite products to furnish my new house in September 2010. Fast forward 1.5 years later, the indoor ice maker stopped working. I lived without ice for a while until I could find a good time to get a repairman out from Sears to fix it (2013). Now, the seals on the doors collect condensation and seem to build up a residue, special. Last night, I was surprised to have the exterior glass of my oven explode on to me whilst baking at 400. 400.... pretty average baking temp, nothing thrown at the oven, dropped on it, smacked to it, nothing. Just a surprise explosion and a cut to the shin from the tempered glass flying at me.

Glass was everywhere. No one else lives in my home. I very seldom use the oven. Nothing fell, nothing mysteriously hit the oven door. I called sears to no avail. This washer is awesome. If you have seen commercials where they put filthy dishes in to wash and find it unbelievable, you can believe it now. I tested it. It really works with this dishwasher. I give it a score of 15 out of a possible 10. Its that good. It is the perfect size. With a family of four we can start putting the dishes in at breakfast. Throughout the day we keep adding more dishes. You would think we would run out of room before dinner, that is not so. We still have room for the dirty dinner dishes. You wouldnt think that a dishwasher could be described as pretty but this one can. I got it in the silver or chrome color and it matches the refrigerator and the oven and stove. They all look really pretty next to each other. It is definitely worth every penny I spent on it. It wasnt very expensive at all. There were other brands that did the exact same thing but were more expensive. It turned out to be a really good value.

Less than one year after installing the Kenmore Elite Convection Microwave (and the gas range), the plastic coating on the stainless steel handle began to disintegrate. We ordered a new PLASTIC stainless steel handle for about $80 but then Sears said a repairman would have to install the HANDLE because the entire door has to be disassembled and it needs to be tested afterwards to verify there is no leaking radiation. I am so incredibly disappointed in all of my kitchen appliances. Every one is only three years old now and all are breaking down due to cheap materials.

This was a brand new unit in my brand new house. From day one I had problems with both the oven and microwave. First-after using the microwave for a couple weeks, I noticed the handle had become loose. No problem I thought, Ill just tighten the screws-nope. The screws are not accessible. They are hidden under the plastic frame and are not able to get to. I called Sears authorized service, they came out, and because of the poor design flaw, they had to replace the entire door=$500.00, which was covered. Now the oven, it never has heated properly and when I went to use it, it made a loud humming noise, then when I went to use the broiler, the cooling fan you could hear, was scraping against the sides of something inside. Once again, Sears service was called, came out, had to order a new fan/motor. To access the fan/motor, they had to pull the unit from the wall, and in doing so, tore my wall up a little bit.When they sat it on the floor to work on it, they didnt put anything under it and there were major dents in my new luxury vinyl flooring. They got it repaired, re-installed it and it worked fine until yesterday. The microwave door handle is loose again also. I called Sears service yesterday and explained to them its doing the exact same thing it was when they were here before. The representative informed me it would be a service charge of something like $250.00/hr. I couldnt believe it-I told him its doing the same thing it did before. Their response- their repairs only have a 90 day warranty. I told him I wasnt paying for what obviously is a poorly designed appliance. I informed him I would contact my attorney. Bottom line- every mechanical and electrical device will have its issues over time, to me, its about how the manufacturer stands behind their product. Will not buy a Sears product again.

In Jan of this year we woke up to a beeping noise and noticed the oven was on self clean mode, couldt shut if off. My husband had to pull the oven out and unplug it. The tech came out. The oven was fine. The second time I came home and the oven was on self clean mode (that was scary) the third time we were sleeping! Reading all these reviews cant believe it hasnt been recalled! So my problem is no one makes a 40 stove anymore. If I replace it it would have to be with 36 stove and then I have a 2 gap on each side of my granite counter tops!!!! Yuhhh.

It has one door, 3 or 4 shelves. It has shelf on doors, plenty of room for extra meat or vegetables. You could place just about anywhere. Its energy efficient, too. The price range would be about 600.00 to about 2,000 dollars with 5 year warranty which would replacement parts and labor to fix it or a refund or replace with same make and model. I would recommend, it was a great idea to buy and use.

It has never proven bad. This machine is reliable for any clothes and large to fit them into it. The appearance of this washer machine is marvelous. It fits perfectly in next to the dryer. The funny thing is the two machines next to one another fit perfectly in the laundry room. It is well worth the value. It has never let me down. I have had this washer machine for 3 years and it still acts as if its brand new. Im amazed.

As for the value, again, I think things are grossly overpriced. We have owned this range for over 10 years and have never had the first service call.

I purchased a Kenmore Power Miser 12 Model #153.331414HA water heater six years ago. The heater was rated as a 15 year heater. In the last six years, I have replaced the pilot light assembly three times and cleaned it countless others and for the last year I have had to manually light the pilot everyday in order to get hot water. I order a replacement pilot assembly and installed it. The replacement unit failed after two days. It was obvious to even me who is not a mechanical whiz that the thermocoupler on the pilot unit was not shielded from the open burner flames thus causing it to overheat and shut off. At the same time I purchased a gas range. The ignitors for the stove top have not worked properly since about one year after purchase. Only one burner will ignite and you have to manually light the others to cook. Also for the last two years, the oven will not heat to the proper temperature (i.e., about 200 degrees lower than the setting on the control unit). I too have experienced poor customer service from SEARS including having to pay $75 dollars for warranty repairs, customer support staff obviously located in Mumbai, India not being able to answer questions about parts or service, delays in scheduling repair times, and my wife was put on hold off and on for over four hours trying to get her questions answered and to get a repair time scheduled even though she asked repeatedly to be transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor was no greater help than the customer service representative. I have since bought a competitors brand of hot water heater because it is made in American and their customer support staff are located in the United States. I also filed a complaint with the Chicago Office of the Better Business Bureau about these appliances. SEARS has responded that their records only show one service call to them and I informed them that their records are inaccurate because there were two repair calls for the same issue. SEARS has informed the BBB that they will not reimburse me for the cost of the hot water heater or even for the cost of the replacement pilot light unit I recently purchased which failed nor have they addressed the issue with the gas range. I have asked the BBB to inquire as to how many service calls SEARS has received nationally regarding replacement of the pilot light unit on this model of hot water heater and the number or percentage of these calls which were repeat service calls to replace the pilot light unit. I also asked why I cannot be reimbursed for replacement pilot light unit I just recently purchased that failed since there should be some limited warranty of 30 or 60 days on even parts. We will see how they respond. If anyone else out there has had similar issues with either this model hot water heater or with their gas range I would like to know.

We called the local Sears and they came and said it was fixed. Nope. It happened again. The glass inside the door now shifts around due to the unresolved problem. Its a safety issue because I have been burned and Im afraid the glass will shatter one of these times. Sears is a terrible company and Kenmore products are not made well at all.

In 2002, we had a new home built and purchased all new Kenmore Appliances. That was a huge mistake. The range almost burned our home down. When the oven got stuck on high and wont shut off, I had to throw the breaker as the oven was too hot to touch. That was a couple of years ago. Sears wouldnt do anything for me. Lets see the Kenmore dishwasher as it had two motors and three thermal fuses replaced. The microwave door is cracking all the way up the handle for no reason. The fridge drawers have broken twice. No wonder Sears is just about out of business.

It has a sleek appearance and its white so it goes perfectly with my range and other appliances. Also, its easy to wipe the outside clean which I love. Since Ive had this particular dishwasher for 8 years now I would definitely say it has a good value for this item, and its built to last. I would highly recommend this dishwasher.

The oven racks fall with little or no weight placed on them. It is so bad that they now dont fit. Ive read online that the interior lining of the oven expands and the racks fall. This is a MAJOR safety hazard. I have been burned and my wife has been burned as a result. After informing the operator who took my call that I am an attorney, the operator transferred me to a line for immediate help. The immediate help was for the operator and not me, as the transferred line hung up on me.

Last Monday night 11/06, while using the oven at 450 degrees, the glass in the oven door exploded and shattered. 3rd party technician arrived today for service appointment. Opened the door and confirmed the window was shattered (nice work genius) and informed me that it would take two additional weeks for the parts to arrive. In my opinion, if something this violent happens to a product, then I would say its defective. I want my defective stove to be replaced!I have spoke with exactly 10 Sears and Kenmore representatives today and have not received any assistance on the replacement of my defective stove. Even drove down to the store I purchased it from to seek some assistance... That was a useless waste of time! I have even had two representatives tell me that it usually takes seven or eight occurrences or service calls before they deem a product un-repairable and would consider replacing it. So... Kenmore and Sears would rather keep an appliance in service with risk to my family if the window decides to fully explode and shatter, rather than just replacing a range??? I have never experienced such a poor level of customer service as I have today. This is a perfect example of why the Sears Holding stock is only at $4.50 per share this morning and the fact that they are closing another 100+ stores. They treated me like I was some sort of thieve and all I was trying to do is replace a defective range to keep my family safe. What really blew me away!!! I told the last customer service person that Kenmore does NOT stand behind their quality or product! Freddies response was that Kenmore doesnt even produce or manufacture the ranges. They are made by Whirlpool and Kenmore slaps their brand name on the product. Freddie wasnt even fazed, almost like he didnt even care. Guess I wouldnt care either if I was working for a sinking ship!

Door storage was fantastic. Ice maker did not take up a significant amount of door space. Being able to alter the configuration of shelving was a nice feature as well. However, will never buy a side-by-side refrigerator again due to lack of freezer space. We have chosen to move to another model but did not purchase a Kenmore in the last purchase. Cost of the refrigerator and the competition of other refrigerators examined was well within our range. We also chose this refrigerator because it was our first personal refrigerator purchase and seemed to be a great purchase.
